Chapter 1 - Dragon Girl

If dogs come from Wolves then where do wolves come from? A long time ago a lonely girl found this out the hard way in a near death instance. A lonely girl was walking along the side of the road, rain pouring down from ahead when she suddenly saw a blast of fire from the woods that consumed the trees but didn't look like an ordinary forest fire. This fire had rays of colorful blues, reds and pinks. The girl instantaneously, dropped her umbrella with mouth wide in amazement and then instead of running the opposite way, curiosity got the best of her and she crept slowly forwards into the woods to have a closer look. Branches were broken off that were high up and were laying on the floor. Something big had to have come through here. She stopped to look at the marks and strange blood lying over an area and started to get scared. But when she touched the blood it was dry. Whatever creature bled had fled as fast as it could go. She neared the edge of where she had seen the fire. There were remnants but only a little fire now. It was subsiding. She was about to leave when she heard a whimper, looked and saw a startled horse running away. The horse was on fire but it didn't seem to be consuming it. Rather the direct opposite. The fuel for its survival. It left and the girl just shook her head. The whimpers started again and it sounded like it came from a dog. She walked on and saw it. A cute puppies foot was caught under a log and the whimpers only got louder the closer she got. "It's okay," she said edging closer. The whimpers stopped and the dog let her pick him up. He felt heavy and really warm. The girl needed him to cool off but before that she needed warmth. She hugged him as close as she could to her chest. Wrapped her coat and him and fast-walked it back to her house snapping branches left and right, passing the bloody stump along the way. She noted that the puppies right foot had a little bit of blood on it but it had to be because of the log although that foot wasn't the one that was caught when she had showed up. By the time she had reached her house, the dog was past warmth. He was like touching cold lava and rising. She crept to the window and looked in. There were people everywhere with food on the table. She forgot that today was the get together but she needed to get the puppy down to a normal temperature. She thought about it for a few seconds and then had a brilliant idea. The fridge that they kept in the garage was filled with pop.....and ice! She snuck in and placed the dog down. "Let's see what we have in the fridge she said walking towards it. She opened it and heard a bark. "Keep your voice down. We can't let my parents hear you,"' she said turning around but seeing no dog. "Where did that. Aah," she said and caught herself looking at the fridge and the dog was in it helping himself to whatever he could find. "Come on, get out of there," she said, picking him up and setting him on the ground. She grabbed a few things of ice cubes and a pop for her herself then closed the fridge. She pulled out a chair, sat down. Dropped the ice down beside her feet and drank till she couldn't drink anymore. She looked at the puppies injured foot and got to work. She sat down beside him and started applying the ice. That is when she heard fighting and yelling plus crying all in one coming from inside her house. Than she heard footsteps and was silently praying no, no, no over and over in her head even when the garage door opened and her mom stepped in. "We have to go now," her mom said sternly and turned her back. "Mom, why? Why do we always have to leave. I like it here this time," she said. "You know why. Now don't argue. Pack your stuff and....she looked at the injured dog in her daughters lap. "We have to leave right now, no further arguments," her mom said and was storming out when she heard. "I'm staying." She looked at the dog and back at her mom. "No ones leaving this time." She said this and ran out of the door brushing her mom on the shoulder and taking off into the woods where she set the dog down. A huge shadow slid under both there feet in the shape of a dragon but when she looked up there was nothing there. She knew she was on the right trail and closing in but she didn't know that the dragon was closing in too. They walked for a while trying to remember where she had seen the dog when a pack of hungry wolves jumped out of the brushes and surrounded them. They weren't average size wolves either. These were hungry wolves set out a mission. Her!!!!! They gnarled their teeth and growled loud. The girl was a long ways in the woods and away from home that no one could hear if she was to cry for help. She was alone and outmatched. Her dog's growl was loud and terrifying in itself but still no match for the wolves. One of the wolves started advancing his way towards her and opened his mouth. She shielded her eyes and metaphorically felt teeth biting teeth but they weren't on her. It all happened too fast. Her dog lunged and sank his teeth into the wolves neck at the same time as arrows were shot into the other wolves sides. She opened her eyes and all she saw were teeth of her dog and a sword of someone else both smashing wolves left and right but getting hurt in the process. "Duck!!!" She heard a female voice say and she did right as a wolf jumped off a tree over her head extending his claws. Her dog jumped off his wolf. Sank into her wolf and threw it at the girl as she sliced it in two landing with the dead wolf in front of her. "What are you still doing here?" You should be gone." The girl said slashing the bow over her shoulders and walking up to her. "I...ummmm. I...''Who are you?" "You're brave to think you can be coming out here to take on the feared. I respect that although I think it is one hundred percent foolish and stupid but I like a girl that is confident and can hold her own. You need me more than you know. I'm here to protect you. I've been all along. My name is Juliet," Julie said extending her hand. The girl shook it, "My name is Sapphira." "It's not safe here. We should move. Wolves can smell blood almost two miles away. By the time we can smell them they'll be halfway here. These were the guard dogs but wolves travel in packs and always return to the spot of a kill," Juliet said. "Keep up." The two took off with the dog in the lead. "How'd the dog know to find me here"," Sapphira asked. "He is here to protect you as well. You are a very important little girl." I'm not little. I'm taller than you." Yes, you are but your skills are little compared to everybody else. "Why should I need to train when there are people everywhere that would lay down their life for me?" Here Juliet stopped and turned around. "Do you even know why we lay our lives down for you?" "Wait you do? I was just being sar..ca ...You are the last," Juliet said placing her hands on Sapphira's shoulders. "You're the last to be able to talk to dragons. The last natural birth from a dragon. Your blood if anyone knew of it you would not be able to go anywhere without getting caught. Ten times faster than the human body to heal itself. Extra strength, extra body core to withstand anything." "Well, when you say it like that you make it seem like I am the most important person in the world." "That's because you're," Juliet said making Sapphira stop her smuggest joking smile and get serious. "Wait. You're telling me all the stories my parents told me were real? All this time and all they did for me. What did I ever give back to them? Nothing?" Sapphira said sitting down and starting to cry. "Don't cry. "I know It feel hard right now but......we have to go." Juliet said, as she took her bow off her back and was in a firing position pointed at the sky then dropped. Nothing. "Noo! You sound just like my mom. I'm never going to leave again. I'm staying here and I will face Fear in the face," Sapphira said even as Juliet and her dog froze bow and teeth gnarled at something behind her. "It's been so long Sapphira. You are all grown up." An eerie dark voice said. Sapphira kept turning around but saw nothing. "Who are you and what do you want? Show yourself," "I remember you as a little baby. I was there when you took your first breath and I will be there when you take your last," He said forming in front of her as Juliet and her dog breathed fire at him but it didn't even phase him just made him not see clearly. Stop, stop all of you. Just stop! Who are you and I want a clear straight answer." "You don't remember me," he said as she stood confused. "I raised you. Was there when you were born. Sat outside your window when you had a nightmare and needed somebody close to you. I was there when you had your first heartbreak and when you won your first soccer game. I was there. I was always there watching. It's time to come home. Be a family again," He said. She didn't hold back the tears this time and let them flow. Through tears and sniffles she spoke one word. "Dad!" "Yes child. I'm here he said blowing on her that looked like blue fire that consumer her and transformed her into the girl she was rightfully to be. She placed her hand on his nose and spoke. "All this time I was running from you and told I should fear you when I should've been running as fast as I can towards you. I'm sorry," she said, placing her head on his and there tears connected. "Don't trust him," Juliet yelled firing multiple shots each hitting a soft spot on the dragon making him rear and roar back in anger. "Get out of here," Juliet yelled and the dog came in, swopped Sapphira up under him, turned into a dragon and flew away. "You were never at any of my daughters events. You can and will never be her dad," Juliet said taking a sword out of her beltside. "At least I showed up. I was better a father then you. You, always pushing her away when I tried to get close. Running from town to town trying to escape me. Well. There is no escaping now. She's my child not yours. You brought her into this world. I'll take her out," he said, turning his head at Sapphira who was high in the sky. Juliet yelled with ever lung in her body one word. "Baby!!!!" Sapphira turned. "Mom!!" She said but was too late. Her dad swung his massive tail right into the gut of her mom flinging her hard smashing into a nearby tree, lights out. She quickly dodged the fire and turned to face her dad. "We could've been a family you and I. But I see that you have chosen your side and I have chosen mine." He was about to blow again but was stabbed in the back drawing blood. He turned and crushed Juliet with his claw. When he turned Sapphira plowed into his head blowing fire all over him, blinding him so he couldn't see then grabbed her mom. They didn't get that far when her mom said her last words to her, "I love you." Then her dad reached out his claws and pulled her off the dragon. He held her tight squeezing her but she used her sword and broke free. Her last few moments were spent looking at her daughter who was flying away in the sunset not even caring about her mangled bleeding self. Sapphira turned just long enough to see her dads claws raised high in the air and then pound down on her mom crushing her forever and ever. He took up off the ground and chased her with his mighty wings. Sapphira's dragon started slowing down. "Noo. Nooo. Noo!" She kept saying over and over again and then looked down at the paw. The gash had opened back up dropping cupful's of blood to the ground. It started to rain and pour. "I'm glad I got to meet you and spend my final hours with you. Thank you for being my protector. I love you, she said as her dad crashed into her dragon and she fell off. Her dad squeezed the dragon until all that was left was a lifeless body and blood dripping down his closed claws. Sapphira hit the first tree branch, the next, and kept going down until she fell on the lowest limb of the tree and lay there. Her crown had fallen off and her clothes all ripped blew off the last piece with the wind. There she lay, tired of the days events and not sure what to do next.
