Previously on Avenging Angels
The girls are at the Lentino mansion and Rose tells them what she found out yesterday.
TWENTY-FIVE
"I wish I never lived to see this day, I wish I was dead-" Iris slapped her and we all looked up in shock.
"Don't you ever, I repeat EVER say you wish you were dead, you are alive so we can avenge our father's, no our parents' death. The only reason we live is to do that. Now, you will shut up, sit and calm the hell down so we can all think about what we are going to do, do I make myself clear?" Iris looked at Lily, waiting for a reply as tears fell from her eyes.
Lily fell on the floor and she started to tremble as tears stained her face.
Iris and I sat with her and held her tightly, we all began to let out silent tears and no body said a word.
It's one thing to know your mother died naturally and another to find out that she was killed. I never got see nor even embrace her, Lily barely remembers her and Iris misses her touch.
What does this woman have against our family that she caused us so much pain and agony?
Lorenzo sat down with us and wrapped his arms around us.
"You three are the greatest treasure I ever had" he kissed my forehead then Iris and then Lily.
"You are braver than any other person I know, yes, I raised you all to be so but you are much more stronger than anyone I know. Feel free to cry now but after this, you will stand up with your head held high and go and destroy that family. This doesn't change the plan, we will continue just the way we have until now" he said and wiped our tears.
"Yeah, this changed nothing in fact we have even more reason to destroy Avalor" said Iris who was wiping her tears.
"I will straight to find out proof on how she killed our mother" I said.
We all looked at Lily, she was mumbling incoherent words as she stared far off, in her own world.
That is her way of trying to forget bad things. When she were just nine, a few months before our father died, she had lost one of her favorite pet rabbit which she kept in the garage.
She totally freaked out when she went there the next morning and didn't see the rabbit, she refused to believe that it ran away but insisted someone had kidnapped it so she begged father to call the police.
After that incident, she sat in her room for like five hours singing a song that she made for the rabbit, father was really scared about her behavior and tried to take her to the doctor but later on she was calm and seemed to have forgotten the rabbit even existed.
Since that day, anytime she wants to forget about something bad, she sings the song and it calms her down eventually. It may sound ridiculous but that's just her way of calming her nerves.
Lorenzo stood up and carried in his arms and her petite figure curled up on his chest.
"I will take her to her room, you guys get something to eat" He said before he left the living room with Lily on his arms still muttering the song.
"What does Avalor have against us?" Iris sighed.
"I don't know but when I find out I promise I am going to kill that bitch"
*****
I looked round and made sure nobody is close before I opened the door. I closed the door slowly as I stepped into the room.
Avalor's office came into my sight and I heaved out a heavy breath as I walked inside. I couldn't rest like this until I found something relating to my mother's death.
After I left the Lentino's, I cooked lunch for everyone and they are in the kitchen eating so this may be the only chance I have to get what I am looking for.
I began to ransack the entire office very carefully so I can leave them the way it was. I didn't miss any spot nor did I miss any file. When I got the last drawer by the right, it was locked.
I pulled and pulled but it didn't budge. There must be something very important for her to lock it.
I need to get this drawer opened.
I used my eyes to search for anything I could use to open it but I couldn't. The one time I forgot the pin I usually leave in my hair!!!
When I heard some footsteps approaching. I quickly scrambled up and moved to get out of the office. As soon as I opened the door, I bumped into a figure.
We both looked up in surprise and my lips dried up.
"Rose?" Helen called.
"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in the kitchen eating with the other girls?"
"Um....a-aren't you also supposed to be eating?" I threw the question back at her in a horrible attempt to clear her suspicion.
"I already ate before you came so I am not hungry" she raised her eyebrows.
"Oh, okay"
"What are you doing here? You look a bit frightened to see me" she asked with suspicion all over her face.
Oh boy.
All of a sudden, my head went blank. I tried to clamber for an answer desperately as my mouth hung open.
Think, Rose. Think!
"I...."
"You....?" she asked.
"Miss Helda is calling for me. I gat to go" I said the first thing that came to my mind and walked out of there.
I didn't dare look back because I know she will definitely be staring at me, trying to figure out why I was behaving like a total idiot.
I entered my room and sat on my bed, holding my racing heart. Why did she had to come at the wrong time? I didn't even find anything.
I pressed my white earring and within a few seconds, I hear the screeching sound which indicated it is on.
"Hey"
"Hey, Iris"
"How's Lily?" I asked because when I left the house, she was still fast asleep.
"She is doing well, I forced her to eat something and now she is asleep after taking some medicine"
"That's good" I breathe out in relief.
"Have you found anything yet?"
"I searched the office but found nothing, although I wasn't able to open the locked drawer"
"Locked? Why weren't you able to open it? Didn't you take your pin?" she asked.
"I forgot my pin and when I was about looking for an alternative, someone came in so I had to stop" I sighed.
"Everybody to the living room NOW!" I heard Avalor's voice coming from outside the room.
"Hey, something is going on. Talk to you later" I double tapped the earring to turn it off.
When I reached the living room, I saw Avalor pacing around the room as she constantly roamed her hand through her brown locks.
"I said everyone in the living room!" she yelled again and in not time, all the maids came to living room and stood in a straight line with our heads down.
"Avalor, what's going on? What was so important that you left work?" Miss Helda asked.
"Who is in charge of cleaning my office?" she ignored Miss Helda and looked at us all.
Sarah who was next to me, looked at me with an expression trying to ask me what was wrong with Avalor. I gave her an answer by simply shrugging whilst still keeping my head down.
"Are you all deaf or mute? I said who is in charge of cleaning?!!"
"I-it's...m-me, ma'am" Helen answered shakily.
Avalor walked up to her as she never took off her glare from Helen. We all looked up and meet one another's gaze, all of us scared for what was about to happen to Helen.
"Tell me the truth and I promise not to lay a scratch on your but if you dare lie to me, I promise you won't be able to recognize yourself when I am done with you" she used her fingernail to raise Helen's head to meet her icy gaze and Helen's lips quivered.
"Did you or did you not steal something from my office?" The question posed was so casual but the threat that followed was deadly.
I am sure she is talking about the document I took, she is going to punish Helen for something she didn't do. I have to do something or else things are going to get bad for Helen.
"Ma-ma'am?" stuttered Helen.
"I said did you take a document from my office?!!" Avalor yelled and Helen began to tremble.
This is bad.
"I-i didn't. Why-why would I take a document from there? Believe me, ma'am, I didn't" she cried out while pleading.
"Oh, so you didn't? Fine, let me believe you. If you didn't then who did? You must have seen the person" scoffed Avalor maniacally.
As soon as the statement left Avalor's mouth, Helen looked at me and we met eyes.
Oh no! She is going to tell Avalor everything.
