Chapter 1 - The encounter

Amia's POV

It was 3:00 in the morning when I woke up. The time when I was most vulnerable to attacks from mythical and supernatural beasts. My mom and dad had been at a party last night and they came home drunk. As usual. My phone rang and I got up from my bed. I looked at the caller ID and realized with a start that this was my friend calling me and she is never up this early.

" Hello," I asked. I heard nothing then I heard it. The shrill scream of terror.

" Amia, please help me. It...its.. a werewolf. Hel....." Lydia said. Her voice then stopped and I heard the sound of the phone falling to the ground. A loud howl followed by the sound of bones snapping, flesh being torn from the bone came next. Then silence. Just silence. Nothing more and nothing less.

" Lydia are you there," I asked. I knew she was not.

" Beware Amia cause your next. " The voice on the other side of the line said. I dropped my phone and stared at my wall. Lydia was dead, my best friend, the person who was there for me when no one else was, Lydia who always was fun to be around. Dead like that. I could not believe it, it's all a dream I told myself. I shut my eyes tight then opened them back up. I was still standing in the same spot. Tears streamed down my face making it hard to see. I threw myself on my bed and grabbed the pillow. I put it to my face and screamed into it. I made a promise to myself that I Amia Karken would slay the beast that killed my best friend.

" I must go and kill the beast now. " I yelled. I grabbed my jacket and put it on. It was a light black jacket so I won't be spotted as easily. I hoped. I had to bring my phone with so I grabbed that as well. A light turned on outside of my bedroom so I knew going out my front door was too risky. So I looked straight at my window, it was slightly cracked so I took a metal bat I had and hit the window with it. Shattering it. Being careful not to step on any glass, I jumped out of the window, I landed with a thud on the ground. I grabbed my arm and rubbed it, sure enough, a large bruise was developing.

" Oh, great just what I need. A bruise while hunting for a Werewolf." I said. I stood up and turned on the flashlight on my phone. I scanned the area to see if there was any evidence of a Werewolf or any other creatures were around. I saw nothing and was a little disappointed but then I heard it, a howl more ear-piercing than any other thing. It was coming from the forest to my left. I walked over to the forest as quietly as possible. I stepped on something that crunched and looked down. I looked and saw that I was stepping on the arm of someone. I picked it up and looked closely at it. On the wrist was a dark blue bracelet, the bracelet that Lydia always wore.

" Oh my god," I screamed. Realizing that this was the arm of my dead best friend. I heard crunching behind me and turned around. Standing there on two legs was a huge humanoid wolf. It growled and snapped its jaw at me causing drool to go flying.

" AHHHHHHHH" I screamed. Dropping the arm that I was holding. The Werewolf looked at it and dropped to all fours. I grabbed my phone and took a picture of it.

" Get away from me," I told it. Not sure if it could understand me or not. It looked at me with its blood-red eyes.

" Why should I? When I can just rip your throat out." It growled. Its voice was surprisingly familiar. I swear I have heard it before. The Werewolf crawled closer and smelled the air.

" Your voice sounds so familiar. " I said. My heart was pounding cause I knew what was gonna happen once he answered. I would be his next dinner.

" Cause you have." He said. He smiled and I could see the razor-sharp fangs, covered in blood most likely that of my friends. And I knew my blood would be staining his teeth next.

" I don't think so. As far as I know, there haven't been any giant wolves wandering around." I told him. He chuckled and then turned around to face the forest. His fur stood on end and he turned to me. His eyes turned into a different shade of red. Much lighter and almost looked worried. He growled and stood right in front of me. His head turned tworads the forest, his lips curled back revealing his fangs. There was a rustling in the woods.

" What is going on. " I asked him. He just kept on growling.

" Kepp quiet." He said. I ignored him and screamed at him with all my might.

" I SAID WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON" I screamed. The rustling in the woods intensified, then a huge shadow came near us. It was another Werewolf. I knew what was going on, the Werewolf who would not kill me had called for his buddy to do it. The other Werewolf looked at me. He ran and stood only a foot away from us.

" Why are you not killing that human Conri. She is prey." The Werewolf growled. Conri shook his head.

" No Fridolf. She is not. And I refuse to harm her in any way." Conri said. Fridolf growled then lunged at Conri. He bit down on Conris back, drawing blood. Conri howled in pain but still grabbed Fridolfs leg and bit down. I ran behind a tree and stood there not knowing what to do. I heard bones snapping and knew Conri had broken Fridolfs leg. Fridolf was limping and turned his attention to me. His eyes glowed a very deep shade of red and he smiled. He ran at the tree I bent down knowing that I would be dead soon. But heard a thud. I stood up and saw Conri pinning Fridolf pinned to the ground. Fridolf growled and snapped at Conri.
