"Damn man did you see that? That chic is banging." I looked at Bryan and he looked down. But what he said was true. Annie has a fire inside of her.
It doesn't make her attractive it makes her hard to resist. Like it's pulling you like a magnet. I stared across the cafeteria at her. She isn't bad to look at. Actually she's beautiful.
"Hey man who you staring at?" Some kid at my table asked me. I looked away and just shook my head. "Hey Jace, aren't you her English partner?" I looked at Jeremy. "Why do you care?" I asked. He grinned. "I was thinking you could put in a good word for me." He said.
Some of the others took his lead and asked me also. "Sure I will." I said and got up and left. "Was he being sarcastic?" I heard one of the boys ask. I shook my head again and grinned. I looked up in time to see Annie leaving.
I dumped my tray and followed her out. I looked up and down the hallways for her until I heard her voice as I passed the nurses office.
"Yeah I get a lot of headaches." I hear her say. "That isn't good. This is the fourth time you've come to me for something." The school nurse replied. "I know I'm really sorry but these headaches distract me from my work." Annie said. "Okay fine, but you need to go to the doctor about these headaches they're not normal." I heard movement inside the office. "Yes I know thank you."
I jumped away from the door as it opened. Annie stepped into the hallway and looked at me. She closed the door behind her.
"How much did you hear?" She asked hands on her bag. I put my hands up in a defensive position. "I heard nothing." I said. She gave me a look and rolled her eyes. "Yeah right." She replied.
I shrugged. She studied for a moment then turned and walked away. I watched her for a moment then followed her. She stopped at her locker and then realized I was still there.
"What do you want?" She asked me. I raised my eyebrows. "I believe we have an English paper we have to do." I said and waited. She finished her combination and opened her locker. "Oh yeah, we should discuss what we're going to write about." She replied.
I leaned against the lockers and studied her. When she didn't say anything else I spoke again. "So where do you want to have this discussion?" I casually asked. She grabbed some books and shut the door to her locker.
"Um, not my house that's for sure. I don't want to ask about yours so how about the public library?" I coughed. "We don't have a public library." I said. Annie froze. "What!? You don't have a public library? Jesus this is the smallest town in the world. I mean come on every town has a library."
She finally looked at my face and scowled. "You're an ass." She said. I chuckled. "Well you're the one who fell for it." She shook her head and smiled. "Whatever I've got to go, how about we meet after school?" She asked. "Sure." I answered. She nodded and walked away.
I watched her until she had rounded the corner. "Looks like you've got a crush." I jumped and whirled around. "My god Alice can't you let a person know when you're gonna pop up?" I demanded. She gave me a look and ignored my question. "You like her." She said. "Or at least you're attracted to her." She continued. "No I do not like her nor do I have a crush on her. She's not my type. Plus I just met her." One look at Alice told me she knew I was lying.
"Okay fine maybe I am. So what?" I said. She raised an eyebrow and walked away. "Get a cowbell." I called after her. She gave me the middle finger. I shook my head and with a grin turned and headed to sixth period class. I couldn't stop thinking about the English project.
After seventh period I walked out the front doors and saw Annie standing at the bottom of the stairs. She looked up from her phone and caught my eye. I walked to her. "Hey I hate to ask but I don't have a car. I always rode with one of my friends. So do you think we can go in your car?" She put her phone in her pocket and waited.
Finally she looked away. "Never mind I'll just walk no big deal." She said and turned and walked away. "I didn't say anything." I said and stood there and waited until she had turned around. "Then don't leave me hanging like that and make me feel like a complete idiot." She replied and smiled. Her smile was genuine and it made her all the more beautiful. Too bad I wouldn't date her.
"My car's this way." I motioned for her to follow me and headed towards my car. It wasn't much but she did a low whistle. "Damn you small town boys can afford these kind of cars? Who knew." I opened my car door and stopped to look at her. "What kind of cars were you expecting us to drive?"
She looked at me and blanched. "Damn I'm sorry I didn't mean to sound rude. It's just Salem is so different from Malibu. I honestly thought it would be way different." My jaw clenched. "You mean poorer. Right?" Annie winced and looked guilty. "Not all small towns are cheap and junky." I finished. I got in the car and slammed the door.
She got in too and I put the car in reverse. I backed out of the student parking lot. Neither of us spoke for a couple of minutes. Annie finally broke the silence. "If I say I'm sorry would you accept it?" She asked. I looked at her and she turned to face the window. "It depends on if you really mean it." I said. I stopped at a red light and took the chance to really look at her.
There seemed to be no flaws on her skin. A few freckles. I was still studying her when she turned to face me. We stared at each other for a minute. She looked away first. "The lights green." She said. I looked back to the road and continued to drive.
Both of us were quiet the rest of the way to the library. When we got there I parked the car and Annie got out. She started up the stairs. I unbuckled my seat belt and got out to follow her. I heard her catch her breath once we entered the library. I watched her take it all in. "This place is beautiful." She said. I smiled. "There's a sitting room on the second floor we can go there." She nodded and headed to the stairs.
We walked up and she headed for a table. Go figures. She wasn't going to sit on one of the couches. Well they were more like love seats. She finally looked at me. "So what are we going to write about? She asked. I looked at the shelves of books. "Well how about we start with getting to know each other and maybe we can find a common interest." She nodded. I took a deep breath and started. "
