Chapter 49 - Being Remembered

Fred knows that the appraisal won't be wrong even if the rank is low, it will only show what can be shown within the skill's rank which this time is only the name of the machete.

But still, he can't help but wonder if the skill malfunctioned or something. That's how big of a shock it is for him to see this machete here!

It's because Lapu-Lapu is a hero here in the Philippines, but not much is known about him besides his achievement of defeating a western conqueror.

Although Fred is not that knowledgeable about history, he still at least knows that this machete in front of him is an important piece of history!

It might be or not be able to become a national treasure but no matter what, the value of this thing is high!

Fred can't help but wonder why there is such a thing in this place that is full of random things.

Then Fred remembered the book he saw earlier that was titled Noli me Tángere and stopped moving.

It was then that a sudden thought struck him!

"Is it possible that that was also an original and is an important piece of history!?"

Fred hurriedly walked back to the bookshelf before and used his appraisal once again.

[Jose Rizal's Noli me Tángere Original Manuscript]

It only shows Fred the name item once again, but the name has another hero, and it is actually the national hero!

"I can't believe it, two Hero's things are placed in here!" Fred muttered, then he stopped, "It might not be just two heroes!"

Then he started using his appraisal on the other items here.

As Fred is immersed in appraising the items, a door behind the counter suddenly opens and an old man walks out from it.

As the old man saw Fred he look surprised,

"Oh? A customer, something that I haven't had for a long time now hahaha."

The old man laughs at his own words as he grabs a stool from the side to sit down on it at the counter.

The old man's laugh woke Fred up from his own world as he immediately turned his head to where the old man was.

He knitted his brows and asked,

"Are you the owner of this store, sir?" Fred spoke solemnly.

Fred is being careful because he did not know the nature of the old man as well as being respectful since someone who can keep all these treasures in here must be a bigshot.

The old man smiled at him amiably like a neighborhood grandpa.

"Yes, this is my little dilapidated store, how may I help you?"

Fred thought about it for a second before asking a question,

"Uhm, sir, are all the things in here for sale?"

"Yes, all of it, why would I display it if not then? Haha, you're a funny young man." The old man chuckled at Fred.

"But sir..." Fred hesitated for a bit before saying, "Do you know the value of the things you're selling here?"

Previously, after Fred checked the Noli me Tángere book, he used appraisal on many things as well and saw quite a lot more things, some that he knows and some that he does not.

Obviously from that he concluded that all the things in here have an important history into it.

"What importance do you mean young man?" The old man's smile never left his face as he looked at Fred.

Fred hesitated if he should tell the old man what he knows, it's not that he wants to cheat the old man, it's just that he is scared that the old man really doesn't know the value of all this and does something.

In the end, he decided to tell the old man what he thought.

"All the things that you have in here are important pieces of history, aren't they?" Fred ask, he did not wait for the answer of the old man before continuing,

"Then why are you selling it all like this, isn't it a loss for you?"

The old man did not answer Fred immediately, he only looked at him with a smiling face.

Then he slowly stood up from his seat, he walked towards Fred and said,

"Young man, these things might have been a valuable part of our history, but you know, there will be no value to it anymore if the people don't even know or have already forgotten the owners of these items.

"It's just like a painting of a famous painter, if his name was forgotten, then all of his works would lose it's value."

"Do you understand?" The old man arrived face to face with Fred after he ended his words.

Fred was in a daze, then he said, "But how could they be forgotten? They are heroes!"

The old man slowly shook his head and said, "In this era, what people idolize are not the heroes from history anymore, but the adventurers who enter dungeons as well as those actors from the televisions singing and dancing for entertainment.

"Some people might not even know who is the national hero of our country anymore." The old man sighs depressed, shaking his head as he walks back to his stool.

"Well, you go and choose anything there, I'll give it to you for free, it's quite rare to see a young man still putting importance to our history nowadays."

Fred is still a little out of it until the end of the old man's explanation.

But then, he also started shaking his head because he does remember an influencer not even knowing the national hero being posted on social media before.

Fred just put all those at the back of his mind and wandered around the store to look for anything interesting.

He found a few things that piqued his interest so he grabbed those and gave it to the old man who packaged it with a wooden box.

Fred said his goodbye to the old man before leaving the store.

The old man looks at the back of Fred with a smile on his face.

"So there's still a young man out there who can remember us, huh."

The old man said those words as he looked at the items in his shop, the items seemed to vibrate for a bit with words of him.

"My old friends, we still haven't been forgotten yet! Hahaha." The old man laugh happily as he said those words,

"This is such a happy feeling, being remembered, sigh."
