Chapter 235 - Preparing to overrun the enemy (2)

And standing, sitting, running, and mucking about before me in a messy, chaotic fashion are one friggin thousand skull goblins. The sheer number of these dark green midgets still baffles me even after looking at them for a few minutes.

I'm pretty sure they cannot comprehend the meaning of that word even if they were to magically read my thoughts. Now, how do I make sure all of them listen?

An experiment then? It could indeed be useful to know if I can use my skill to overcome the distance my voice can reach.

"Fellow goblins, I am your new leader and I will make you strong to kill many enemies. Are you with me?!!"

A few skull goblins near me react to my voice but the others immediately distract them with all the uproar they are causing. I admit I am frustrated by my inability to just get their attention. Thinking about how much effort it will take to get them to do as I say just increases that frustration so much more.

Seeing them fool around with uncaring expressions makes me want to beat them up. I can't pinpoint where this level of frustration is coming from but they really make me mad. Not to mention the constant cacophony of noises they give off that transforms into a mind-numbing chatter due to their sheer number.

"SHUT THE HELL UP!"

Fueled by my anger and frustration, my instructing skill acts up. A sonic wave that sends the closest skull goblins tumbling away is released from my mouth as my words travel to the far reaches of the gathering. Looks like they all heard that, huh?

Still, if I can get a megaphone effect just by being angry... No wonder drill sergeants are a thing. And since the opportunity has arisen, time to give these guys a piece of my mind.

"SIT DOWN AND LISTEN UP! I AM NOW YOUR LEADER! WE WILL KILL MANY ENEMIES!"

They sit down albeit begrudgingly but once I mention the words kill and enemies their eyes begin to sparkle. Now that I really have their full and undivided attention, I can get to the not-so-fun stuff.

"BUT FIRST YOU MUST TRAIN. ONLY THE STRONG ONES CAN KILL ENEMIES. DO YOU WANT TO KILL ENEMIES?"

They erupt in cheers at my question and seem tremendously motivated. However, I doubt how much they understood. Most of the cheering has likely originated from me repeating the words kill and enemies multiple times.

While they are all dim wits I feel like there should still be some diversity among them. Less stupid ones among the dim wits so to speak. These are the ones I need to focus on. Idiots are easiest led by example and to lead so many idiots I need proxies.

Now, how to flush out those that are slightly smarter than the others. I need to give them a task that is doable with just slightly more intellect than they ordinarily have. However, I can't make it too difficult, otherwise I will be left where I am now. At the same time, I don't want to make it too easy on them or they will all succeed which would defeat the purpose of me doing this in the first place. Here goes.

"Worthy ones, step forward ."

All I am met with are confused looks and inactive skull goblins that don't seem have understood what I wanted. Was I asking for too much? Should I have set the bar lower? All I asked was for them to step out of the crowd. Can they not even do that?

Admittedly, that was a bit much to expect of them. But how else am I going to find my direct pupils and teach them my supreme battle skills?

My skills? Let's take a look at my status then.

Hmm, going by what you said, I assume you meant my instructor's assessment skill. Can it actually show me something that detailed? I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try.

I concentrate on the seemingly unending crowd of skull goblins in front of me and try to think about filtering out all the slightly smarter ones. I can suddenly see slight glows appearing around certain skull goblins. I wonder how smart they are...
