The weekend is over and it's back to work for me. Not that I will be entering any dungeons for the time being.
From what Navi has told me Jade has been defending enough dungeons for the both of us. Monday to Sunday that woman knows no rest, weekend, or holiday. She seems hellbent on sinking her fangs into any and all adventurers that she sets her sights on.
So I'll be spending my time learning and giving Sean more lessons. Navi has me jotted down for a physical evaluation first thing today but apart from the fact that it has something to do with Sean she refuses to talk about what it is.
Right now, I'm sitting in the reception area watching Valeria use a wicked-looking file to work on her nails.
Can't you tell that she is doing it? You are in her head too right?
How does that work?
Makes sense, kind of.
I stand up and walk over towards Valeria. Her eyes dart over to me and give me a withering glare before returning to her nails occasionally darting another glance towards the entrance.
"Navi says you shouldn't be doing your nails while manning the reception."
"Navi can mind her own business. If she won't listen to me then why should I listen to her?"
"What isn't she listening to you about?"
"We are being watched! There is far too much traffic outside and I saw multiple faces go past here more than once. Something is happening!"
Navi?
What if she is right?
"I believe you, Valeria. What do you think we should do?"
Valeria shoots me another withering glare and increases the speed of her file as it dances around her fingers.
"You are a horrible liar. You don't believe me one bit but pretend you do to show me that there is nothing I can do. I get it, but sitting here and waiting for an enemy to come through that door is so irritating."
"So doing your nails is a way to cope with the stress?"
"You could say that."
Sean comes walking through the door and Valeria tenses up like a predator ready to strike. I knock on the reception desk to get her attention and give her a warning look. She may be stronger than me but she better not kill my first customer.
Sean clearly felt the intent that grazed past him for only a moment. He shudders and nervously looks at Valeria who is still using that file to polish her nails.
"Don't mind her, we are expecting some trouble makers so she's on edge. Follow me and we'll get you to that evaluation."
Sean warily glances at Valeria but she has the good mind to look outside and ignore him completely. Seeing that he isn't the focus of that deadly intent anymore Sean quickly jogs after me.
"What is this evaluation I am going to do? They said it was free of charge and would help with increasing my training options."
"Gotta be honest with you here. I was told about this evaluation only this morning and it did not provide any details."
We arrive in a lab-looking room where Navi is waiting for us dressed in a nurse outfit studying a medical chart. Navi's body in a nurse outfit...
I'm sure this should be illegal. Sean's red face and furiously moving eyes seem to agree with me. Poor guy doesn't know where to look.
I've been married for a while now so I know exactly where to look. One quick glance at the body to evaluate the danger and then focus on her face and nothing else.
Navi pretends not to notice how flustered Sean is and walks up to him offering her hand. Seeing that Sean doesn't respond she grabs his hand and shakes it.
"Nice to finally meet you in person. I'm Navi, we spoke over the phone."
"N-n-nice to meet you."
"Now, you mentioned that your potential for magic has already been tested. May I ask how in-depth those tests were conducted?"
Sean looks like he has just eaten a sour lemon.
"The tests covered every possible field. Nothing was left out."
"I see, what about the warrior's path?"
"Tested that one too. No luck!"
"I see, it is unfortunate that you are met with such results. Today we'd like to perform some basic tests. For that, we will need a sample of your blood and a short test using a machine we have here."
"Let's get it over with then."
In a very practiced manner, Navi uses a handy device to create a small wound on Sean's ring finger. She fills a small glass vial with his blood and heals the wound by simply brushing over it with her finger.
Next, Sean has to hold his arm into a machine and grasp an object as hard as he can. The test takes less than a minute.
