Chapter 11 - Ch. 9 Sebastian #3 - Cunning hope

"Over here!"

"Heeee Hooo!"

- Number of demons lifted together wood and placed it on the construction

They were preparing for the Blood Moon Festival. The Demon King will hold a speech to officially announce the start. So everything needs to be set up perfectly. This festival is everyone's favourite part of the year.

"Good job folks!" - One of the demons said.

"That side is next!"

"Leave it to me." - A young demon replied.

His eyes looked as if they were glowing crimson red in the shade of his fedora. The young man proceeded to lift and carry what took 5 adults strength together. And he did it with ease as well. One would wonder how this young-looking demon possesses such strength.

Little did they know he was a vampire. Although his raw strength is impressive he is very much so lacking in skill and technique. There was nobody to teach him after all.

"Hah, that brat. Always trying to show off."

"You are right about that old man. But it would've been much harder without him. He's a good helping hand." - What would seem a middle-aged demon replied.

"Well can't argue about that. I'm glad I asked for his help." - The old demon said relieved.

"Though it's sure scary. A young man like him being so strong. He's bound to become a monster when he grows up haha!"

...

"Haauuh! And done with another one." - The very young demon all those men talked about said in relief.

Though it would seem he was not in the brightest mood.

"Damn it with these headaches! My head just keeps hurting like there's no tomorrow! Maybe I need a break?" - He thought.

"Old man! I'm taking a quick break! I need to rest a bit!" - Sebastian shouted.

"Alright Youngun! Don't take too long!" - Old demon shouted back.

Sebastian headed for a wooden bench just beneath the Devilberry tree. The bench was perfectly in the shade of the tree. Like a safe spot from the burning sun.

He sat on the bench and tried to relax by closing his eyes. After a moment that felt like an eternity his eyes opened. But to his surprise, he was no longer on the construction site. To be exact he saw nothing at all.

"Huh? What is this?! Where am I?!" - The young vampire said in shock.

He was engulfed in darkness with no end. Like a fish swimming in the deep, deep sea. One would wonder does such a place really exist.

"How did I get here?! I was just sitting at the bench!? - Sebastian panicked.

Suddenly a distant figured appeared. It was getting closer and closer. Like the blazing sun, it represented pure joy and warmth. Upon closer look, Sebastian realised just who that figure was. His thoughts filled with just a single word.

"Mother."

"Mother is that you?! Mother, I finally see you! You have no idea how happy I am!" - He shouted.

His eyes began to wet. He burst into tears and ran towards her. She was closer to his reach each moment.

She smiled at him. A priceless smile from an unreplaceable person. Sebastian felt as if his heart was going to burst. He would die for this moment to last forever.

Just about as he was going to hug her, she shattered. The very image of her shattered in front of his own eyes. The moment he longed for to never end disappeared out of his reach.

"NOOOOOOO! Mother! Mother!" - Sebastian cried in despair.

The hope, the joy, the happiness that he felt was nowhere to be found. All of it turned into anguish.

He cried alone, in this never-ending darkness. Presumably, it appeared he was alone but seems like that was false.

"Sebastian." - A sinister voice echoed through the endless dark.

But that voice sounded far too familiar. As if Sebastian heard it far too many times. That voice belonged to no other than-

"[Dracula]! What do you want from me?!" - He shouted in pain.

"Do you know how your mother died Sebastian?" - Dracula asked cunningly.

"Of course I do. She died from an illness. Why are you asking me this? Is this another one of your games you bastard!?" - Sebastian asked sobbing.

"Wrong. Your mother didn't die from an illness. She was as healthy as it gets."

"What?! Don't joke about that bastard!" - He shouted in anger.

"Kukukukuku! It is true. Your mother was in fact killed by the hands of humans. You were just a baby so you can't remember. But I was with you since birth. I remember your mother's death clearly." - Dracula spoke schemingly.

"WHAT!? The humans killed her!? - Sebastian yelled shocked.

"During the attack on Curseborn, she hid you in a safe place. The humans barged into your home and killed your mother. I remember it like it happened yesterday."

"B-but how could that be? I was told she died from an illness. I can't believe your words! You are playing mind games with me!" - He yelled in disbelief.

"Kukukuku be it your way then."

The everlasting darkness abruptly vanished. Sebastian was now in completely another place. Around him, all kinds of furniture could be found. Seems like he is now located inside a house. This interior had a rather familiar touch to it. But Sebastian couldn't quite get the hang of it.

"Could this be... my mother's home? That can't be! How did I get here?" - He asked confused.

Screams and noise were reaching from the outside. As if this was a battlefield.

"What's happening outside? Dracula where did you go!? Answer me!" - Sebastian yelled irritated.

In the middle of his annoyance because of Dracula's sudden disappearance and confusion - a demon woman carried a baby hurriedly below the bed.

"Hush hush Sebastian. You mustn't cry now. Mommy will be back soon ok?"

"Mother? Is that baby me? Mother can you hear me?" - He asked surprised.

SLAM*

The door of the house was slammed open. A number of human males barged in.

"Get her!" - One of the humans shouted.

"AAAAAAH! NOOO!" - Sebastian's mother screamed.

She was stabbed by a sword and killed in a second. The humans ravaged the place looking for more demons. Luckily they didn't find Sebastian.

"MOTHER! NOO! You are dead human!" - The enraged young demon leapt towards one of the humans with the intent to kill.

Just as he was about to smash that human's face - Everything returned dark again. Once again the everlasting darkness swallowed Sebastian.

"Do you understand now? Kukukuku." - The sinister voice came back.

"H-how dare those humans do this to my mother! What did she ever do to deserve that!? - Sebastian's heart was filled with wrath.

"I can bring your mother back." - Dracula said boldly.

"What?! Are you serious!? Don't make jokes with me now!" - Sebastian asked with hope of his mother returning.

"I can revive your mother. But first I need your help kukukuku."

"Whatever it is I will do it! Please bring my mother back. I'm begging you!" - He said filled with hope so much that he let his guard down.

Sebastian forgot just what kind of a person Dracula is. That is a mistake he will regret for the rest of his life.

"Give me the human kingdom. It holds something I desire." - Dracula said sinisterly.

"I will grant you what you desire! I will do everything to get my mother back. - Sebastian shouted desperately.

"Kukukuku I will be waiting."

...

"---un, ---gun, youngun!"

Sebastian opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was an old man calling for him.

"What is it, you old man. What do you want?

"Youngun you fell asleep. Get your ass up and get back to work tsk! Where's your youth!" - The old demon said disappointed.

"Okay, okay I'm coming." - Sebastian replied annoyed.

...

After a hard day of work, he was finally packing things up and going back to the Golden Cup Inn. The sun was setting and the night started emerging.

The construction site was almost empty all besides a group of demons to the side. Normally one couldn't hear from such a distance but Sebastian's vampire bloodline granted him supernatural perception.

"What are those men up to? Might as well eavesdrop a little." - He said to himself.

"---------eech? The revolutionary are planning to step in and hold their own. They will gather up all demons for a war against humans."

"Are you saying that the revolutionary will seize the king's festival speech and ask for supporters to fight against humans?"

"That's right. It was about time for someone to speak up!"

"Aye!"

"What's this? Seize the Demon King's speech? Hahahaha! That's a perfect plan!" - Sebastian thought delighted.

"You filthy humans. Don't think I forgot about my deal with Dracula. I will kill 2 birds with one stone. Have my revenge and mother back. But first I need a plan. I will have to step in and hold the speech myself. I must get the revolutionaries support. Otherwise, I won't be able to take over the Human Kingdom alone."

"Those humans won't escape my wrath!" - His thought for a split second released an immeasurable amount of bloodlust.

He himself wasn't aware of its extent. At that moment numerous demons across Curseborn retrieved goosebumps.

"What's this? I got goosebumps suddenly."

"Strange, the same happened to me."

"Me as well."

- The same demons from before said confused.

...

"What's with this incredible bloodlust? It disappeared after a split second but it was definitely there."

"Is something the matter your majesty?" - A young demoness asked worriedly.

"Ah, don't sweat it. It's nothing, just this old man talking to himself." - The demon King replied.

"Ah, understood sir."
