Chapter 23 - A Past Exposed

"What are you doing to me?! Who the hell are you!? You bitch! Let me go!"

Scoffing down at the bound man, Kat gave him a swift kick in the third leg. He coughed out heavily, unable to speak anymore. Rolling around, he couldn't do much more than attempt to free himself. To his dimay, Kat slammed her foot upside his head.

"You've been running around so freely... it's disgusting. You've been playing women, sleeping around and just getting by on sheer luck. Hehe... too bad you met her. Through her, you have me around."

She placed her foot against his throat, pressing down lightly. She gave him a demonic grin, trying to increase his fear levels.

"You're so weak is hilarious. Do I even need to kill you at this rate? I can just humiliate someone as pathetic as you and you'll do the rest!"

'Mina, you poor beautiful thing. This bastard won't hurt you again. I'll keep giving you many hugs and kisses from now o-'

BANG BANG BANG

Her eyes went wide as the noise brought her to her senses. From behind, a man pulled a gun on her. Every bullet pierced her back and ripped through the front of her body. She could already feel the tears streaming down her body.

'Mina, I'm so sorry.'

Her eyes lost their light as her body slammed to the ground. Kat could feel herself being pulled from her body as the cold crept across her.

Her vision faded and reappeared before her in the form of an old man. His beard reached his waist and his bald head reflected the rooms light. His bushy eyebrows kept his eyes from being seen, but every movement could still show emotions. They were currently furrowed, seeming to be in despair. He eyed Kat, speaking low.

"I'm sorry young one. You've died rather tragically. Due to the type of character I have seen within you, I have chosen to hold onto the soul before me. Namely you, Kat Visnit."

Immediately, Kat stared him dead in the eye.

"Let me see her."

He waved his hand, a shard of glass showing the trembling body of Mina. She was bawling her eyes out, unable to cope with the death of the one she loved. Kat clenched her fists, burning the image into her eyes.

"Can I ask you to send me back?"

"No."

"Can you bring her here?"

"Only if she dies, or if you kill me and take my place. That young woman isn't someone I want to bring here either way. Her character has not-"

Kat darted forward, her fist busting the old man's nose. His fuzzy brows were raised high as she launched another attack. Her knee landed against his throat, causing him to cough blood. Lifting him by his robe, Kat stared him in the eye.

"I could kill you, but killing a God or whatever doesn't sit right with me. All I'll ask, erase me. Make her forget I existed. That pain... it's not for her. I want a chance to grow strong enough to bring her here myself."

The old man smiled, even with his bleeding nose and mouth. Kat dropped him, her face disgusted. She turned her back on him.

"So, how am I supposed to get stronger?"

The old man waved his hand, changing reality in Kat's world. Mina was no longer crying, but Kat felt no better. She nearly cried, feeling herself being forgotten.

'Mina, I swear... I'll have you by my side again. I still need you.'

She wiped a tear as a strange portal appeared before her. Hesitatingly, she stepped through. Eyes filled with wonder bloomed as she stepped into the fantasy world around her.

-

"Ugh... my dreams are like a story sequence!"

Kat stretched out once again, agonizing over her recurring dreams.

"I wish Mina would evolve or take a nap. Or ya know... become super strong and come get me."

Kat kicked the ground, throwing a tiny tantrum.

"Why does being a Goddess over an entire world suck so much? It's no wonder he wanted me to kill him... so boring."

Crossing her arms, Kat threw incredible amounts of differentiating magics at the massive white area she was standing in. Her face grew redder as she became angry at her predicament. As the magic faded, she slumped to her knees and slammed her fists against the ground.

"Stupid bastard! This is a prison, not a fucking Goddess's home! Just let me hold her, just that much and- hold on."

[If you use this ability, you will be unable to use it again for a week. Confirm?]

"Absolutely. Let me do this!"

Blinking, Kat appeared beside a sleeping Mina. She smiled happily, kneeling beside her and hugging her.

'I'm so glad I can touch a spirit!'

She pulled back, but a split moment decision made her lean back in. She kissed her softly, pulling away with a sad smile.

"If only you could kiss back..."

She placed her head against Mina's, silent tears flowing.

"Mmm... Kat you're heavy."

Launching back, Kat blushed wildly. She attempted to make up an excuse, but paused when she saw that Mina was still asleep.

"You're dreaming of me... that's so damn cute."

She smiled happily, moving Mina's hair from her face. She kissed her again, but a sudden noise alerted her. She looked around, none of the animals were stirring. Using her godly power, she noticed a hidden person within the bushes.

'They saw me... oh dear.'

With a snap, Kat vanished and Mina woke up. She instantly felt something was wrong, but also a strange sensation on her lips. Getting to her feet, Mina went to Inferna.

"Hey kitty, yowl for me?"

Inferna popped open an eyes. She looked drowsy, but she opened her mouth wide. A high pitched yowl spread out, waking the other animals. To their surprise, a voice came from the bushes. Slipping out of stealth, a man covered his ears.

"Huh. A human."
