The carnival had opened.
It was Halloween themed. Bummie had a long conversation with Jae about Halloween. The mermaid was more than interested. Most would think such a sweetheart was faint of heart, but no. Jae liked the whole horror genre and jumpscares did not affect him.
Even Bummie flinched from time to time.
The conversation also included a short explanation of amusement parks. Bummie didn't go into detail about the rides. The lifeguard figured Jae would know when he saw them. Bummie did teach him about safety. That part was too important to be left out. Along with the variety of food.
When Bummie drove up to the park Jae could already see most of the rides. It was hard to miss, the rides were huge after all. He liked that Jae could see the rides like that.
It invoked suspense.
Bummie had paid for the tickets online. They included access to all rides and three turns at every game. Bummie had gotten fast passes so they could skip the line. He just knew it was busy since the park had just opened a few days ago. He came prepared.
With online tickets, a simple scan was all they need.
Bummie held Jae's hand and led him forwards, "I was thinking we could go on that ride."
Jae looked to where Bummie pointed.
"Yeah!" Jae was nervous but eccentric.
Jae had no clue what these were, what this whole park was.
This was his first time seeing something like this. There were so many things to do on land it blew Jae's mind. Nothing ended up being what he thought it was. He wondered when and if this feeling of disbelief would pass.
The couple stood in a small line. Jae kept his eyes on the humongous blue contraption in front of him. The mermaid watched the cart fly over his head as the passengers screamed. Even with this display, Jae couldn't get a grip on reality. He could only guess how riding it would feel.
Jae wouldn't have to guess much longer because they were boarding the ride.
Bummie sat Jae down, not wasting a minute before sitting down himself. The lifeguard buckled the mermaid, sharing hushed whispers. Bummie beamed while Jae wore an unsure smile.
Roles reverse quickly.
The workers came by quickly to check the buckles. Jae flinched slightly. The mermaid's hand was engulfed in warmth, not a second after. The lifeguard had reached out to comfort Jae. Jae smiled over to Bummie, who gladly returned it.
It gave him a bit of insurance.
The duo's fingers interlocked as they listened to the countdown. The announcer hit one and the ride was going up. Slowly, but surely inching towards the top. Jae breathed harshly with his eyes wide. Bummie just watched Jae react.
The ride halted at the peak and sat for a few seconds..
..down they went.
Wind mercilessly hit Jae's face causing him to close his eyes. Pressure like no other hit Jae. If he wasn't from the ocean this would feel insane. It was funny because the air wasn't as heavy as water, but it was pulling him down. Wanting to see the view, Jae opened his eyes.
The mermaid regretted not opening them sooner.
So many sites hit Jae at once. Jae saw what was to come further down the ride yet already coming to him. When he hit a peak, he could see the whole park. Despite the conditions he was in, the view felt relaxing.
Still so nerve-wracking. Back down he went and his attention was brought elsewhere as his body thrashed. When seemed so long ended quickly.
The ride was brought to a break and the passengers flew forward. All Jae could do was giggle. The mermaid noticed that his hand was still wrapped tightly in his companion's.
Today marked the day of Jae's first-ever rollercoaster.

The duo grew exceptionally flirtier after the ride. Jae felt goofy and Bummie was just happy. They were glued by their sides. Jae's head rested on Bummie's shoulder. The two practically skipped to the food stalls.
Bummie was going to introduce Jae to fried Oreos.
Bummie normally had Jae sit down when he was standing in line, but they were being extra needy together. They both decided to continue to cling to each other. Even moving in sync as they got closer to the front. Bummie ranted about fried Oreos and Jae giggled clinging tighter. Their conversation was cut off by the worker.
Bummie ordered six fried Oreos, two hot dogs, and two drinks. He could never stomach a large serving of fried Oreos so he figured that should be enough. Also, the two hadn't had breakfast yet. The plan was to eat food, ride all the rides, play some games, then get sweets to go. A solid and simple plan that guaranteed some fun.
Bummie spotted a small table in a corner of the shade. The lifeguard ran to get to it before someone stole it. Jae laughed while running beside him. Luckily, they didn't drop any food. Bummie wiped off the table and seats before sitting down.
"Try the Oreos first." Bummie pushed them over to Jae.
Jae plopped one in his mouth.
"Careful, they're hot," Bummie remarked.
"Itsh good." Jae mashed the steaming Oreos in his mouth while giving a thumbs up.
Bummie chuckled, "Good".
The short conversation was over. Instead chewing and the crinkling of paper filled their ears. The two gave short sentences and long laughs.
In no time the food was done.
The duo transcended to more rides. It went by quickly because of their ticket perks. However, it didn't seem like so because the sun was already setting. The early sunset highlighted the start of winter. Time was going too fast in Bummie's mind.
The two walked out of their last giftshop to witness this sunset.
Bummie rushed Jae to a ride line. He almost forgot the main part of his plan. The two skipped the line and now had to wait for the current passengers to finish. It was only a few minutes until that time came. They watched as the passengers left one by one.
Finally, Bummie pushed Jae to board the swing sets.
It was a ride for couples based on the famous Ferris wheel. It had a small two people box that went in a circle. The ride got higher and higher until it reached the top.
They could only wait patiently as others in front of them filled up the ride.
Jae sat right beside the window with Bummie beside him. The outside of their thighs pressed against each other's and their arms were entangled. Soon they heard the announcer speak up. After a few words, they started to move forward. Jae turned to look out the window, letting out soft giggles.
They slowly went round and round, reaching the top in time.
"Jae"
"Yes-"
Bummie kissed Jae.
