Chapter 2 - Parler

Kaos Maharaja Break. That was her name, the one with light and toned indian skin and beautiful eyes and facial structure. She was also tall, and had beautiful henna on her fingers and feet. She had thin rimmed golden glasses, and a decent fashion sense.

Everywhere she went, she would be carrying her bag that hung from her sharp shoulders. She was strong too, and she did karate. She also had a high IQ, maybe even considered a genius.

It looked like she had a prodigal life, everything perfect.

At least that's what it seemed like.

"Dammit." Kaos frustratingly tapped her pen on the coffee table as she looked around anxiously. A lot of people were glancing at her, some in a good way and some in an agitated way. After all, she was cursing under her breath every five seconds, and she was someone who naturally attracted attention, good and bad.

It certainly didn't help that she sometimes did bizarre antics in public, or she had an overwhelming aura that made her seem so unapproachable, like with a flick of her wrist she could end you on the spot. Many people around her felt like interviewees and Kaos as the interviewer.

That day, she was wearing a dark sea green velvety lantern turtleneck top. At her waist was a black belt with a silver buckle, and under that she was wearing black skinny jeans. As a cover up, she wore a long black with thin white stripes cover up with a rough material. Dangling from her ears were tiny silver hoop earrings, with sterling silver ear cuffs. Hanging from her thin neck was a silver chain, with a ring resting on it. Kaos was also wearing her signature glasses that rested on the bridge of her enviable nose. However, she was wearing a grimm expression.

She was currently in a café called Parler, French for speaking. It was a popular social place for many different people in Coast City, and had a great variety of food. Kaos was enjoying a brown sugar milk tea with bubbles and a delicious matcha castella, a Japanese bread-cake.

Kaos was currently typing something on her laptop as she furiously sipped her tea, and peaked at her phone. She had to write five essay's before tomorrow in order to get at least an A in Mr. Gambast's 'special' classroom. He was a crazy teacher.

As Kaos was cursing under her breath, her phone started ringing. She groaned in frustration as she pulled her hand through her long soft brown-black hair, before finally picking up her annoying phone.

"Hello?" She grumbled. The person on the other side of the line cleared their throat before continuing to talk.

"Is this Kaos Break? From Ministry Academy?" It was an old man's voice. Kaos recalled the time she got called to the office under the claim that she was 'cheating', and that the voice on this phone was in fact the principal of her school.

"Mister Valerie. What do I owe the pleasure of this phone call?" Kaos forced, not even trying to hide it as she continued typing her essay on thermal fusion.

"Ahem. Kaos, the school has realized that your potential as well as a few other students goes beyond what Ministry Academy can teach you anymore."

"Please get to the point, sir, I have a few essay's due by midnight and I only have a few hours left." Kaos glances at the darkening evening sky. It was an ombré of purples and blues, only getting darker as time ticked on.

"Well alright then. You and that group of students I've mentioned all have been summoned to a military hearing." Kaos paused at the old man's words. She instantly became more serious as she slid her phone from her shoulder to her hand and pressed it against her ear.

"What? When is it? What does the military need from us? This sounds like a scam."

"I've already sent an email to you. Review it, and make sure to contact that number included so they can give you a debriefing. It won't be you alone, and many different powers are coming, including some members of the UN, the top geniuses in the world, and very powerful foreign powers. Be on your best behavior when you are there, and make sure to contribute to the meeting. This has something to do with some type of threat, so start contemplating."

"Woah woah woah, what? Slow down. Is it really that big of a deal that goes beyond national importance? Something that all the nations need to be wary of...is it something really dangerous?" Kaos could hear her heartbeat as the conversation continued. As she listened to the old man's speech, she was already pulling up the email Mr. Valerie had sent.

"They didn't give me much details, since my only purpose was to contact a certain group of students. They said that they needed new and young geniuses in order to be completely prepared for this new obstacle. They only said that it would be a big change to the world as it was." The girl could hear the old man let out a breath. "Of course, you will not have to do any assignments in this time period."

"Well...okay then. I'll do as you asked. Goodbye."

"Farewell." Then the fall ended.

Kaos leaned back in her tall chair, totally bewildered. She grabbed her heart and scanned the email that her principal sent. She was about to input the phone number into her phone, but she stopped as she instead reached for the matcha castella instead.

"Mmm, what a blissful day." She said to herself, typing in the digits. She then shut the laptop and stuffed it into her bag, which was resting on the chair next to her. Kaos grabbed her boba and started drinking as she typed the first message.

Kaos: This is Kaos Maharaja Break. I am contacting you about the military briefing that Mister Edgar Valerie informed me about. Is this information correct?

Kaos waited with anticipation as she elegantly ate her cake. She then called for some more when she heard her phone ding.

xXXxxX: Your information is indeed correct. This is Atlas Meringue of Division X, Intelligence of the U.S. government. It is nice to meet your acquaintance Miss Break. We have heard of your academic achievements and have been impressed with your results and overall performance. Your IQ will be valuable in the new problem that has arisen and is causing trouble around the globe. We hope you will be of assistance.

Kaos quickly changed the contact to Atlas M., X. She then took in the information as she placed a fork holding a piece of the matcha castella in her mouth. She smiled, amused.

Kaos: Of course. May I ask for some of the details and information regarding this meeting? As well as some of the attendees so I can be prepared to not offend other nations. Yknow, just in case.

Atlas M., X: If that is what Miss Break desires. We will send over a file shortly. The meeting time and place is Tuesday, 12:00 on September 18th, 2020. We will be meeting at Pier 42 in Warehouse 7b.

Kaos studied this new information, including the underlined date of meeting. She grinned as she took another bite of the delicious bread-cake. Oh? Perhaps this year will just get better and better.

Kaos closed her phone and slid it into the pocket of her coverup. She then chugged the rest of the boba tea and put it into the recycling can. However, she wasn't done yet.

"Excuse me?" Kaos called to the cashier as she walked up to the beginning of the empty line. After all, it was getting late, but still, a large number of people were lingering around the café.

"Y-yes?" Kaos turned towards the startled cashier when she heard the stammering. Behind the counter was a regular guy with sandy blonde hair and dark eyes. He was wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans under his black work apron that was probably required. She eyed his name tag. Derek. Her eyes trailed back up to his face. She noticed Derek was beet red. Either a fever or he's really mad. I don't recall making him angry though...maybe he's shy? I don't believe he likes me.

"Ahem. Can I please get four boxes of red bean buns and two loaves of matcha castella bread-cakes?" She decided to just continue with her request. The employee known as Derek nodded his head and typed something into the register, getting more into the professional attitude.

"Of course. Please wait one second, miss."

After a couple minutes of waiting, and after I paid a little over fifty dollars, I thanked the guy and started to leave before I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to find a hand extending a brown sugar milk tea with bubbles, one of my favorite drinks.

"Here you go, miss. On me." He said shyly. Kaos looked up to see the one and only Derek, shooting his shot.

"Ah, I'm sorry, I can't accept this. How much was it again? Eight dollars…" Kaos reached into her bag, and was about to start digging for her wallet when he interrupted.

"No, seriously. I just wanted to. No biggie, haha," He nervously scratches the nap of his neck, his eyes finding sudden interest in the ceiling. Kaos stared for a moment, maybe two, before taking the drink. She smiled at him. 'No biggie?' How adorable.

"Thank you then. I hope we'll see each other around, Derek." Kaos then made a beeline for the door, walking confidently with her belongings at hand.
