Chapter 64 - Enlisting to defend Ryu Pass

JUAN

Passing through the yellow gate, Juan found himself on the roadside in a wide green valley. Since his flamboyant spear and armour were so remarkable, when he saw no threat around him, he put them both back on the space ring. Juan was nervous.

'Why should I kill another agent on a normal mission? Should I even kill? The Lord seems not to have good feelings for Lord Keons. Since he wanted to have his men killed.'

Juan took a good look around with binoculars and explored a nearby town. He quickly started walking towards town. But in the meantime, about forty cavalry soldiers quickly appeared at the other end of the road. The group was also heading into town. Juan moved to the side of the road to avoid problems. When the riders reached him after ten seconds, three of them spurred their horses and stopped. The others continued without slowing their pace into town.

After one of the horsemen glanced at Juan with his eyes up and down, then informed "We need men to defend the Ryu pass. We lost a lot in the last raid. We don't have enough men for the defence this time. You are coming with us."

When Juan realized that they were involved in his mission, he was relieved and responded "Yes!" so as not to miss the opportunity immediately.

Another of the men pointed to the town and instructed "Go over there, we have to go now." The three horsemen set off immediately.

'Hmm, I wonder if they will gather the commoners by force from the town. If I am recruited into the farmer's army, I can only act as a pawn. My life may be at risk. Anyway, let's follow up.'

When Juan arrived in the town square a few minutes later, the cavalry had gathered up to six hundred men between the ages of fifteen and forty in the town square. When Juan arrived, one of the soldiers speaking to him on the way pointed to the empty space on the other side, not to the side of the crowd. Juan went to that area and stood standing.

The sergeant leading the soldiers looked at the crowd and declared "If there are two members of the same family, let the older ones move over to this side, and the smaller ones to this side (where Juan is)."

About a hundred people in the crowd went over to Juan and a hundred people to the other side. After counting everyone, they realized that nobody was lying.

The sergeant barked to the crowd again "If there are three or more members of the same family, the youngest member should go over here, all the older ones go over to this side (where Juan is)."

After the crowd in the square slowly split, three hundred and forty people piled up next to Juan. On the other hand, it was around one hundred and seventy. There were ninety or so people who still didn't move anywhere.

The sergeant looked at the ninety people who did not participate in any group in the square and said "We will give ten silver for a head, ten gold for five heads, five hundred gold for ten heads and mana crystals for those who collect fifty heads or more. We will give the Wine of Sin and the Seed of Sin to those who gather at least four hundred heads. For those who do over four hundred, you will be able to earn a house and a title in the palace as well as the Seed of Sin. Those who get two thousand heads will be given the title of Barony."

Everyone was waiting for him to continue in haze. The sergeant looked around, scratching his beard a little. "I will not force anyone among you. I'll just take what I need and go. So, does anyone among you want to join?"

Of the ninety-odd people who were understood to be the only man in his family in the square, only three came forward. The sergeant called three men over to him. The others left the square. The sergeant who came to the front of the group on the other side of Juan.

"You cannot participate even if you want to. Only those of you who are between 25 and 30 years old can choose if there is a person you want to move from the other group."

Eleven people from the group chose the eleven members of Juan's group. The eleven selected people were expelled from the group without their consent. Nobody else was asked anything else. About three hundred and sixty newly assembled men and forty horse-drawn soldiers remained in the square.

The sergeant looked at the other people and commended "Anybody who can find or ride horses from town can come with a horse. He can accompany the mounted unit."

About thirty people came forward and saluted. Each one was given a chain necklace one by one. After putting on the necklace, the necklace glowed and faded. The sergeant warned earnestly "If you take off the necklace, you will die. Now go get your horses and come back quickly."

Three hundred and thirty peasants and six cavalry soldiers remained behind. The townspeople returned to their normal jobs. Twenty-eight horsemen appeared five minutes later. One of the mounted soldiers came out first. "I'm Sergeant Lian. Now everyone will get their necklaces in turn. Get in line."

Sergeant Lian, who invited him to the town square when it was Juan's turn, looked at him and talked earnestly "Juan! I'm pleased. Here's the necklace. The necklace has two properties, it explodes when it is stolen or removed. So, you can use it to kill someone who is about to kill you. The second is to keep a record. Every soul you kill is your soul. Small crystals in this necklace can trap them. We will be able to see how many people you killed."

Juan did not ask for much after listening carefully. When everyone was done with the registration, three meals per person were distributed from the town, and after the sergeant included twenty-eight new mounted soldiers for his thirty-four horsemen, they quickly set off.

After traveling for a while on the road, they arrived at a crossroads. They saw three separate groups waiting here. Everyone was told to wait in the group they came from. After a few hours, four more separate groups came from two more directions. At once, the number of peasant soldiers reached five thousand. About two hours later, about eight hundred cavalries and five thousand footmen gathered. They set out on a regular basis again without waiting.

They stopped twice on the way. Taking regular breaks in the form of twelve hours of travel and five hours of sleep, they arrived at the headquarters on a hill overlooking the Ryu pass at the end of the second day. The headquarters was huge. Juan stared at the headquarters in surprise.

The structures gave Juan the feeling that he had gone back in time. It had a historical and medieval texture. There were hundreds of thousands of people. It was like a city of soldiers. There were bars, pavilions, and fighting arenas everywhere. There were even training areas. There were sections where special military training was given.

Sergeant Lian rounded up his troops and informed "Now I will take you all to your accommodation. After this point, I will have nothing to do with you. If you want to return to your town, you can do so after defending this month. Now everyone! Follow me!"

The crowd followed Sergeant Lian to the front of a barrack. The barrack was large enough to accommodate twenty thousand people. Juan and the others were immediately directed to each of the hundred men rooms shown. Six times a day meals were distributed free of charge. They asked them to wait until the day of defence.

After Juan adjusted the bed to sleep in, he went to the large bathroom with showers and relaxed a bit. When he finished his bath, he decided to visit the campus. On the way, he saw many different venues and entertainment venues and wondered about them with curiosity.

There were luxury hotels in this campus. There were private mansions for those with higher ranks. In the hotels, those who came to watch the defence of the Ryu pass remained. At first, Juan did not understand much. But after wandering around all day and talking to people on the road, he got the whole point.

Between these mountain ranges were covered with huge cliffs. Its two sides belonged to two separate kingdoms. The two kings were fighting for the parade every month. There were huge fractures at 3 different points of the mountain range and they called these points the passage. The people were fighting each other, and the kingdom that ruled any of the gates was gaining control of that pass. The three gates had three separate magical teleporting formation mechanisms. Other continents could be reached from these points. The person who captured the pass could determine the fare according to his wish and decide who should go and who should stay back.
