Viny called to the sergeant "Sergeant and Marquees, please let's go inside."
After getting inside Petras's office, Viny sighed. Yaune looked the papers and the tools on the floor and grumped. Sergeant Vino stressed and tried to explain himself "Well, this office is cleaned daily. I don't know how it became like this."
Viny smirked what he had done while thinking how to create plan with that gutless guy. He even messed whole room but Petras didn't even point it out. Viny began to draw the walls on the table again, he asked the sergeant "Have you ever fought ape men?"
"Yes Captain. They came to this town two years ago. They were fourteen ape men. The Duke sent forty soldiers. We also had thirty-two soldiers. We fought with seventy two people. One of the ape men died, several were seriously injured. Thirty-eight of us died and twenty were from our town. Now our current soldier is twenty one and nine of them have joined us in the last two years."
Viny took a deep breath. Grappling with statistics in his head, he asked the sergeant another question. "How did the war take place? I mean, did they jump into the walls, for example? Or did they break the door? Or did you go out and face it? Did they come to the city collectively or did they scatter around the walls and attack each one at random?"
"An ape-man cannot jump off the walls in Ritwoon" Yaune smiled when hearing Viny's questions. "But the walls of this town are short and definitely they can easily jump over them. They will come from the direction of the back walls, opposite to the direction we came from. If they do not fight in front of the door, they will bypass the walls and kill those who come before them."
Viny outlined after some thought "Then we're going to do this. We will excavate the bottom of the walls three meters wide and three meters deep, close to the perimeter of the gate in their direction. We will dig the front of the door in the same way. Since there are only twelve ape-men, they won't spread much. It is enough to dig 20 meters each side of the gate along the wall. After opening the holes, we will stretch the skin and freeze water on the skin. Water thickness will be thin, at most 1 finger thick. Snow will be carried over the ice at night, and when the monkeys run over the walls, they will fall into the pit."
This plan confused Yaune. "It wouldn't hurt them from falling so much. What will this do to protect us?"
Viny went on to explain the rest of the plan without answering Yaune's question. "I'll hunt them from afar. All I want is that they can't get near me too quickly. We will build ice pits with a diameter of three meters at the following thirty meters intervals starting from twenty meters beyond the wall."
Since Yaune didn't retorted or objected, Sergeant couldn't rise his consent. With lead of Sergeant Vino, everybody started to move outside of wall to the direction of incoming attack. Soldiers instructed people how Viny desired. Everybody holding a digging shovel started digging holes according to Viny's plan.
Children and old people were watching everything. All works took three hours to complete. It was only a few hours before evening. Viny sent the people to do their normal duties. He gathered the soldiers and began to develop a defence-attack method together. At first, he was trying to apply strategies from the holy-wood movies he had watched before. Afterwards, he thought they could gradually develop an adaptation.
'Twelve men will come. Thirty-two soldiers, me and Yaune will defend. If I kill one monkey man at 30th meter with the arrow, one at 20th meter and one in front of the wall, there will be nine ape-men left. If we form a total of eight teams with four people each, me and Yaune together can quickly kill the idle first. Then we help kill those who attack other groups."
According to this plan, Viny first distributed everyone in groups of four soldiers in a balanced way and established a war order. And he planned so that everybody would work actively during the war. Viny trained with his sword until late at night. In the morning, Viny and Yaune woke up together.
The soldiers, who were continuing their combat drills, were occasionally admiring the powerful sword attacks of Viny and Yaune and trying to train the hurling bikan swing by themselves. After completing daily body building and mental training techniques, Viny and Yaune felt like they were getting better. At least they were not dumb like before. *(1)*
Viny, accustomed to Yaune, spent the sixth day together, and when night fell, Viny was saddened when he thought this was his last night with Yaune. He inhaled the scent of Yaune, he hugged her tightly in bed.
Yaune, on the other hand, was completely unaware of this situation in Viny's arms, feeling very happy. Viny's affectionate gestures had led her to different dreams. Viny, teary-eyed with sadness at the idea that he would not be with Yaune the next night, closed his eyes with weariness.
'Should I give the medallion I got from Amos to her? However I want to sell it or promote a guardian for myself. Ahh, she is so good and it is obvious that feeding a girl friend really expensive wherever you go. I will decide tomorrow, let me hug her tight first.'
"Hmm" Yaune's little bit objection made him loosen his hug. The two woke up the last morning.
While all commoners got into bunker shelters, soldiers were ready next to walls. Yaune was waiting next to door of house they spent their night together. When Viny came out, she confused and surprised. She pointed her index finger and questioned him "What is that?"
"Oh, This? Yeah, this is a bow." Viny gave it her for a while. She held while they were walking to the walls. After getting the front of soldiers, he got back his bow. Viny made an interesting sight with holding his bow and quiver on his back over the gate of the wall as they watched and waited for the direction the ape men would come. It seemed very magical to the soldiers, especially to Yaune, because they didn't know where Viny had gotten these things out.
Yaune couldn't help but nagged "You are amazing. I think this is your trick so that you kept me in shadow. That's why I won't ask you how you did get it"
"I would tell you if you ask."
"You!" Yaune blinked couple of times and then hit on Viny's head. "Stupid!"
"Hey, why are you calling me stupid? I am so sensitive towards this word?"
"Hmph! Why?"
"Because of the fruit we ate."
"What is about it?"
"Well, it makes you physically stronger and also make you mentally declined."
"Oh Shit! Is that true? Your gravely misbehaviour caused me to lose my mind? I am feeling like hitting you on the head until ape men come."
Seeing her knuckles tightening, Viny swallowed like he ate a fly. His funny side made Yaune laugh even she was sincerely angry at him. She caught him from collar, then gave a quick kiss onto lips. Viny trembled and hugged her while patting her head. 'I decided to give her the medallion.'
Waiting in front of the door on the other side, a female guard noticed a group of vukaas coming quickly from afar. The group was Marquez's group. While Marquez and Bensen drove Vukaa alone, Sisa and his 9 strongest men were riding the other five vukaa in pairs. They were brought up just before the ape-men raid. When Marquez arrived at the defended wall, they met with Viny and Yaune.
After getting detailed reports, Marquis's brain short-circuited 'the make sense' part.
Bensen could not stand and laughed. "So you put the Baron in the dungeon, huh? Hahaha!"
"The wall door is open and you are waiting behind the wall. Will you fight when the monkeys jump in the door? What are you guys talking about here? Let's go out." Marquez shouted.
Yaune immediately stopped her father. "Dad please wait! We dug holes and Viny has a very different strategy. You, twelve people, stand behind these thirty-two soldiers. And when the attack begins, rush to help where support is needed. Now you have to trust Viny and me."
Marquis looked into Viny's eyes and he complained "Captain, what kind of potion did you drink to my daughter? Now she trusts you enough to put me behind ordinary soldiers!"
Yaune pouted because she remembered the fruit made her feeblemindedness. She got flushed with redness on her rosy cheeks and annoyed by herself how she made her father lose his face.
After looking around with interest, Bensen turned toward Viny with curiosity and inquired "Young man, I see nothing but the usual snow from the outside. Apart from the various items you are wearing which may be the big part of plan, I could not see anything like 'the plan'."
