Chapter 3 - ~02~

Cartes stood in her black heeled boots in front of an abandoned cathedral. She deadpanned. "I regret this decision very much' she thought.

'I don't wanna go to church..... wait I was found here?'

She raised her eyebrows as the scientists and around her sent glares at her father. She guessed it was because he brought a child with him.

Her hair blew in the chilling autumn wind she brushed it out of her eyes and continued cracking her gum ignoring all the glares sent her way.

"So what did you want me to see again?"

She asked trying not to think about what she could be doing had she said "no" to the invite to..... this place. it didn't give her an eerie feeling it just felt off. Like this was not a normal cathedral. But then she doubted normal cathedrals had 13 year old girls in them.

You see this place is wonderful truly wonderful an ancient civilization used to be here but they all died out. they worshipped several emissaries- who are painted in the stain glass pictures- and believed them to be gods or goddesses but apparently this led to their destruction. anyway they left behind all these artifacts to act as clues and then-" Cartes sighed "dad-"

She began but she started looking at a stained glass window. She stared at each of them, four among twelve of them were rather large compared to the the other eight. She tilted her head trying to make out what the cracked and broken glass was a picture of. then the picture moved. she blinked.

did the picture just move ...?

She backed up now certain she should have stayed home. she guessed the picture was of a warrior or person in crimson red armor. But it also could have easily been a disfigured version of the titan kronos from Greek mythology.

She decided to leave the room and go wait in the car. "dad can I go home now? I have to go to school tomorrow"

'ugh I actually used school as an excuse how pathetic--'

"no you can't you haven't even seen the best part!"

At that moment the next sound was glass shattering.

The glass shattered and from it emerged the warrior that Cartes was looking at in the window. the armor looked odd because the plates looked a lot like heart shapes as did the spear he carried.

"You mortal vermin which dare defile this sacred temple! this sacred place where the Cartes Jouer warriors resided..! Well I Knight of Hearts will not allow this! Face your death!"

"ah hahaha terrific! a living relic you reporter kid get a picture!" some man yelled.

Cartes herself was having a puzzling inner debate. She looked a bit confused.

'the Cartes Jouer warriors...?'

'why am I named after them? or is that my full name, after all, I could only remember those two words when I was said to have gained consciousness.

She stared at her surroundings in silent shock. the scientists and photographers and really everyone except her were being chased by the Knight clad in heart shaped armor.
