Chapter 1 - She lost the case

Jeon Misoo

Leave me! Leave me, please. Please! I beg you. Please. Don't do this to me. No pleaseee!!! I wake up breathing heavily. I start whimpering and my sobs echoed the empty room. I stay alone in a small comfy apartment. I'm a cardiologist at Seoul National University Hospital, which is one of the biggest hospitals in Seoul. Why do I stay alone? Well, my parents, they stay at Busan. I moved to Seoul around 3 years ago after completing my MBBS course to fulfil my dream, which was becoming a cardiologist. And now I'm one. Do I have a boyfriend? Dare not ask me that question. Not because I'm a lesbian. Or not because he cheated on me. Well, he did something, I would have nev..never imagined. HE AND HIS FRIEND FUCKING RAPED ME. Nobody knows about it except for my lawyer. Not even my best friend Baek-Hyeon nor my parents know about it. Why? Because RAPE SURVIVORS ARE DIRTY. People start gossiping about you, give you dirty looks.. Well, I don't want those. I want JUSTICE! Today the rapists are going to be presented at the court. I snap back to reality when my phone starts ringing

-"Hello" I say in a soft voice.

-"Misoo, are you up?" My lawyer asked.

- "Yeah, I'm up. So, all ready?"

-"Yes. But Misoo, I'm telling you once again. The possibility of winning the case is less than 0.01% If we win the case, it would be nothing but a miracle."

-"I already know that, Mrs Lee. I just believe that the truth shall prevail."

-"Alright, I'll pick you up in an hour okay?"

I sighed. I know I won't get justice. Why? Because Jihoon, Jung Jihoon is the son of the founder of the biggest media network, Jung Network. And Jihoon being his only son, Mr Jung is gonna put his blood, sweat and tears to win this case. I'll still try because I have never given up in my life. I wear a white colour dress and little makeup. My phone rings and I receive a message from Mrs Lee, which says that Come down, I'm here.

-"Hi."

-"Ready?"

-"Yup."

After 20 mins of drive, we reach the court. 10 mins later, the judge arrives. The trial goes on, and his lawyer keeps on justifying that Jihoon wasn't present at that site. My heart drops when the judge announces that Jihoon is not guilty. I knew I was going to lose the case but it still hurts a lot. Court Dismissed. Wow! I lost the case. I say absolutely nothing and walk out of the court. Suddenly breathing becomes difficult. I'm so broken.

-"Misoo, Misoo, Stop...Wait for me."

-"We lost the case. Why? Why? Because he is the son of the founder of the biggest media network. Mrs Lee, why?" I cry as she hugs and comforts  me.

-"I'm sorry Misoo. I tried my best, but the fact remains unchanged. They are powerful people and we are commoners, we can do absolutely nothing against them."

-" Looks like somebody is having their worst time right now. Aww.."

I know this voice. Who else could it be except my ex-boyfri..no, my rapist?

-" I don't wanna talk to you. So, get your ass going!"

-"Baby, aww...I love you! You shouldn't have complained, baby. You knew you were going to lose. Why waste your precious time, cardiologist? Congratulations by the way!"

I knew he was saying the truth but it still hurts. I took a taxi to the park near my house. I started crying, the people around started looking at me. But I didn't stop, I couldn't. Then a girl aged 8 perhaps, came and sat just next to me.

-"Why are you crying, sis?" she said in an adorable way. Initially, I decided to ignore her, but her cute smile was something I couldn't resist.

-"Something really bad happened to sis, that's why she is crying."

-"Oh! Here have my chocolate. It's really powerful, it changes your mood in an instant." She said while offering her chocolate to me.

-"Thank you, cutie" She ran to her mom and walked away from there while waving her hands towards me.

-" Wow! Even an 8 year old is far better than you Jihoon." I sighed.

A minute later, I receive a call from my mom.

-"Hello, mom." I said in a weary tone.

-"Hello sweetie. How are you?"

-"I'm fine perhaps?"

-"All good, Misoo? Is something wrong? I and your dad have noticed that you are disturbed about something. You aren't contacting us for the past 6 months. We both are getting worried dear."

Oh god! What have I done? I should have been more responsible. After all, I'm their only daughter,

-"Mom, I'm absolutely fine." I said in a cheerful way. "It's just..just my work. I mean there's a lot of work and I ain't able to complete it."

-"Misoo, I have always told you, there has always got to be a way. Every problem has a solution, but some are like...you know riddles. You have to solve those riddles to find the solution, honey. I know you will do it. And baby, please keep in touch with us. We were worried about you."

She's right. For the past 6 months, after that night took place, I hardly talked to them. I feel so guilty for troubling my parents.

-"I'm so sorry, Mom. I don't know how to apologize. Sorry for troubling you both. And yes, I'll do it."
