Leaving the presentation room I could feel many eyes on me. I quickly looked at my mother, and we made eye contact just long enough for me to know that my eyes began to glow. She was worried, and quickly shutting down conceptualizations regarding me.
"Elise, I'm tired. Please escort me back to my room."
She silently nodded, and began to bring me to me chambers. Elise is part mermaid and light fae. Being part mermaid Elise is able to receive emotions, much like someone receives a verbal message. She is able to understand me almost better than I can understand myself at times, and if it was anyone but Elise this would have been a very scary concept. It helps that I also tend to know Elise like the back of my hand. Not in the same manor...she can actually receive my emotions and nonverbal communication. Yet, I could feel her aura and could see all the facets of her different personality. This was not a normal gift, and nobody knew that I had it except for my mother and Elise. It had something to do with my eyes. They weren't normal, even the color wasn't normal. I don't think there is another fae with red eyes.
Growing up, I would hear the maids talk and gossip about how I'm part demon. The monster princess parading about as though she was a light fae. Other children would make fun of me, and even though I was royalty I was outcasted. I've only ever really had my brothers to play with, and Elise of course. I have six brothers, the eldest, Alexander, well past a 1,000 years old and starting a family of his own. We are polite to each other, but when I read him the part of his personality that is greed and envy seem to get stronger. I don't worry about it too much though, because the part of his personality that values family greatly outweighs that of anything else. Then there is Andrew who governs our military, and he is enjoying his newlywed life. Even though we can find our soulmate at 300 years of age, it took Andrew a little while longer to find her and while he played the perfect Casanova I knew that he wondered if he even had one. I've never seen him so happy! Asher, the third eldest, is currently enthralled in his studies. He still makes time to visit me daily though, and is not only a great brother but friend as well. Then Aaron who hopes to work with Andrew and build a strong militia. He likes to quiz me on battle strategy, and we spare daily. How I'm missing our sparing this weekend! Finally, there is me, and then the twins Adam and Axel. Even though they appear to share the same face and build, they couldn't be more like water and oil! Often times, I feel like the glue holding them together. Regardless, I could see that even though they struggled to understand one another they could not imagine life without the other. All of my brothers share the light pastel eyes of the light fae, and our parents. My mother, the Queen, was the first to not take any companions outside of her soulmate, our father. When he passed in battle, she was forced to take on a few companions to keep enemies at bay. She had a few childhood friends and that of our father who offered to devote themselves and lend her their strength.
"oof!" I began to start falling, when a pair of strong arms caught me. Gently taking my jaw, strong arms lifted my face until our eyes met. They were dark orbs covering the entirety of the white space of his eyes. They were unsettling, and they belonged to Prince Damian of the dark fae. Smirking he released his grip around my waist, and his eyes went back to their typical state of electric purple eyes. Without saying a single apology for knocking into me, he just sauntered away.
"What the hell?!" I sent to Elise through our mind link.
"I'm not sure. I couldn't even sense him heading your way. I don't like this. Let's get you back to your room."
I took one last measuring look as he walked away. He was cocky in his stride, and it let off this known awareness that he knew he was tall, dark, handsome...and so did everyone else. Yet, when I looked a little closer I could tell that his anxiety was lit up.
Interesting.
Taking my hand, and lacing her fingers through mine Elise made sure she wouldn't lose me or have any other mishaps on our way back to the room.
Making it into the room felt like we had just played a game of chase, and made it into the safe zone before someone could tag us! We both took a deep, calming breath.
" Miss- you have a message from the Queen" said a guard at the door. Elise stood up to open the door, and cautiously pulled out her dagger. Something was up, and I began to feel uneasy. Elise sensed something, and I went to my closet where I hid my weapons. A princess is not supposed to have weapons, but Aaron made sure that I had a wide array and knew how to properly wield them. I prefer my close combat Sai, but I didn't even get the chance to grab them.
I felt a rush of air, and before I knew it I was transported to a neighboring hill from the castle. I actually quite enjoyed this hill, and came here often when I wished for fresh air. What I did not appreciate was being transported here. Transportation takes a toll on the passenger, and even though it was a short distance it was enough to give me a pounding headache. Before even looking at him I knew that it had to be Prince Sullivan of the Leprechaun. They were the only fae who had the power of transportation.
"Prince Sullivan, I hope that you have a good explanation for this kind of behavior."
