Chase woke up in the middle of the night to a faint glow along with a buzzing sound. He saw that all the girls weren't inside the room with him. He found them all in the shed with the light on, he got up and walked into his front yard to take a better look at the scene. He walked on inside to the shed and then saw them all freeze and stop talking the second that they saw him walk inside.
"Oh, hi Chase," Emily said, seeming to be caught off-guard by Chase's intrusion.
"Why are you all up so early?" Chase inquired sleepily.
"Ummm, no reason," Emily started to panic, not quite knowing what to say. Why was she panicking? What did he not know? These girls are suspicious.
"What are you up to? I feel like you're keeping something from me." All the girls immediately exchanged glances, then Emily spoke.
"Look, I think that you might be understanding but," Emily took a deep breath, "We don't want you on this trip." Her brown eyes met Chase's as if he felt like she doubted her saying that.
Chase's face dropped, "Why? You've been lying to me and faking liking me?" He shut his mouth just as soon as he said it. That wasn't it, so he had to figure it out.
But it was too late to say that now. "NONONONONONO, WAIT, CHASE THIS IS A MISUNDERSTANDING-" She stopped talking, and fell to the ground, "I'm sorry, it wasn't my choice, the others just don't know you that well." Chase Just stood there, speechless, He just walked out of the door, "I just want to be liked, god damnit.
"My God, how have I got myself into this shit?" Chase asked as he closed his eyes and clonked out cold. He drifted off into an uneasy, deep, sudden sleep.
In his dream, the same angel from when he died yesterday visited him. It was all bright and cloudy like the heavens about which for some reason gave him this awful slithery feeling. It was like you walked into heaven in a sort of way.
"This may be a dream but I am speaking to you." The angel said slowly, "But you need to hear me out, something bad is about to happen tomorrow. So I will visit you every night so you can check-in and I can make sure you're ok." He imagined wiser words instead of a normal English conversation, but he ignored that fact. The angel was going to keep him safe, so that was all he needed.
"Good night," She stated, "You will now wake up but heed my warning and don't tell anyone."
"Wait…" Chase said softly,
"Yes?"
"Do they hate me?"
"Just for now," the angel said with a smile
Chase woke up to Emily leaning over him breathing heavily holding a tray with an energy drink, a chopstick, and 3 sushi rolls. It was burly for a second, and he blinked back into real life. It was very appetizing just to see the sushi as his stomach growled intensely. He got up and then grabbed his watch off his nightstand to check the time, he suddenly saw that there was only an hour left till takeoff and the drive to the airport was 30 minutes long. He started to panic. It was already 9:00?!
"I can't believe that we can be so bad at perceiving time," Chase said, packing his breakfast in a hurry, saving it for the plane. He hopped up and woke up Ruby who got wasted last night.
"Should we be leaving like, right now?" said Ruby, drowsily hitting the back of Chase's head.
"One, ow. Two, yeah, you're right." Chase responded, rubbing the back of his head, the pain still stinging and throbbing pretty badly.
"Alright, well, better get going," Halee spoke up over the commotion. She had her sketchbook under her arm and was holding a pencil twirling it in her hand. As they grabbed their stuff and lunged into Chase's car. As they sped off to the airport in awkward silence, Chase noticed that the car was almost out of gas and they just ignored it and then rolled into the airport parking lot. They parked the car, doing a 360 to park it to where the car had faced the parking lot. Mia threw out their suitcases and Still, sprinted through the endless parking zone. They sped through the process of checking in, going through security, and then boarded their flight just in time at around 10:00 a.m. They entered the plane at the last minute and went through the spiraling tunnels that led to the door of the plane. They got in and went to the very back to sit down. They got all buckled up when the flight attendant started to speak. "Welcome to Spirit airlines! Please buckle up and wait until the green light flashes to get up." And then the flight took off. Chase was wistfully looking out the window, Ruby was sleeping, resting her head against the window, Halee was playing on her phone (hooked up to the wifi, Chase guessed), Emily was just vibing, and Mia was eating snacks, staring blankly at the ceiling.
After 7 hours randomly the intercom came on and a flight attendant was panicking trying to make an announcement," The plane engines have failed, we're coming down at a rapid pace. BRACE FOR IMPACT!"
Quick thinking, Chase opened the emergency door and they all flew out, everyone dying as they hit the water, the impact breaking their neck. Except for the five, Emily, Halee, Chase, Ruby, and Mia. He submerged into the water with a dive, and he saw the others land around him in the dark blue water. The sky looked a cheerful sky blue, which was ironic to the situation happening around him. Chase could barely process what was happening, as he saw the airplane sink slowly into the abyss. He saw the hanging carcasses on the surface of the light blue water as he swam up to the surface. It was discomforting, to be honest. As they swam up Halee pointed out the fact that there was an island in the distance nearby.
Then they realized, they have no way to get back home, "FUCK!" Chase screamed, he had no idea what to do.
"What's the big deal?" Mia asked.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK? WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE," Chase screamed even louder, "SO UNLESS YOU CAN FLY US BACK TO SHORE THEN WE'RE FUCKED!"
They just all went silent after that, with Mia all down in the dumps. They continued to swim until the island was close enough to see it in detail. They stepped onto the cold wet sand, Ruby sighed with relief. "Land!" Ruby shouted joyfully.
"Well, we need to survive first before we can get excited about anything," Emily warned. The group was all gasping for air, and as the island became more detailed, the more Chase began to realize what happened. He was pretty terrified, and the fear started to creep onto his skin.
They finally reached the island. Everything was beautiful but it looked eerily occupied as if survivors from a plane crash had reached this island as well. Chase crouched down near a rock and regained back some strength. They took a good look around and Mia finally made a good suggestion, "Let's prepare for the night, we can't just survive off of what is in our pockets,"
"We better change outta' these wet clothes," Halee stated, "Luckily Chase had his suitcase when the crash occurred, so let's just take his shit." here we go again
"I'll wait for my clothes to dry off," said Ruby, "but thank you."
"How about no," Mia said. "There's all these caves and trees, what's your problem?"
Ruby's only response was an eye roll, and Halee looked around nervously.
Chase tossed them a couple of shirts and then headed off into the trees. Chase had found a sharp stick to bushwhack through the thicket of saw tooth grass and overgrowth. Birds chirped overhead as the sun's rays filtered through the palm trees leaves. They went across a rushing river, hurrying across the grey stones. "I'll be back in a minute, don't die or anything,"
Chase said, "I'll be over there," He said pointing to a little patch of trees that obscured him completely, "Holler if you need anything." The girls nodded.
"Be safe, alright? Emily chortled.
"Yes, please do." Halee and Mia agreed in unison.
Chase bushwhacked through some more heavy overgrowth until he was finally where he was pointing about a minute ago. He looked around and saw a huge, enormous sheer cliff with a cave just in front of him. He sighed, turning around to go back to the others. It was pretty humid and warm, around eighty degrees Fahrenheit.
Chase suddenly heard a rustling sound coming from behind him, and he whirled around immediately, taking a pocket knife out, switching into the hunting knife format. The rustling sound came from a bush, and suddenly a tall man came out of it, brushing off twigs and leaves.
"Hello there!" The stranger said as Chase put his knife in his pocket again. His brown eyes stared directly at him along with a toothy grin. He was significantly damp, Chase observed. He also looked a couple of years older than him.
"Hello." Chase greeted skeptically. "Who are you? I'm Chase." He shut his mouth just as soon as he said it. Don't say anything else, his conscience thought. Who knows what the heck he's doing here on a deserted island.
"I'm Todd Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolconoconiosis.." He said, swallowing the clear uncertainty in his tone of voice.
"Pneuma- what?" Chase asked.
Todd ignored him. "Did you happen to… come from a plane crash?"
Chase flinched. How did he know?
"I assume that is a yes." He observed. It explained why he was damp, Chase subconsciously thought to himself.
"Well if it was a recent plane crash, I was the one piloting that plane" -he sighed- "My brain-dead copilot decided to not fix the engine a few days ago without telling me. I thought the flight was deciding to go perfectly fine, but then the engine failed and now I thought I was the only survivor… I guess not."
He's glad he found me, Chase realized. That's why he's not as cautious as he should be.
"Yeah… I was from that crash as well." Chase said. "I thought we were the only survivors too."
"We?" Todd said skeptically.
Chase decided to bring him back to the girls to introduce him. Chase found the girls, except for Ruby, who was looking at her phone dismissively.
"Why aren't you all changed?" Chase asked, with Todd fixing into an uncomfortable expression that said, 'What do you mean'?
"Oh, we were just vibing' I guess," Ruby said, shaking her phone.
"There isn't god goddamn service out here Ruby," Emily said bluntly as Ruby shot her a glare.
"I'm making sure my iPhone isn't broken." Ruby snapped, narrowing her eyes at Emily. Halee and Mia rolled their eyes simultaneously.
"Well," Chase said, clearing his throat, "This Todd Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis."
"Wait, What and who the fuck?" Halee said, bewildered by his last name.
"It's a type of miner- you know what? Just call me Todd." He said with an amused smile. "Let's get ourselves all introduced."
"I'm Emily, and thats Ruby, Halee, and Mia," Emily said, pointing at the other three girls.
"Hello," Ruby said, waving for a brief moment.
"Yeah, hi." The other two, Mia and Halee said.
Todd's smile broke when he saw the sun heading west, then turned his head back to them. "Now that we're all introduced, let's find shelter. It's going to get dark soon in a few hours."
"Excellent idea." Mia agreed. "Speaking of which, Chase, did you find anything when you were over by where you saw Todd?"
"Yeah, it was a cave opening on a cliff," Chase replied, as the group nodded. "But I don't think it was big enough to fit all of us, so we might have to build a shelter ourselves."
"I saw some driftwood and some fallen trees near the shore. I think we might be able to use those." Ruby chimed in.
"Magnificent!" Todd said. "Chase and I will go gather those up. If you wish, of course." He turned towards Chase.
"Alright. Fine by me. So the girls will go find us a place to set up?" Chase asked.
Mia nodded, and Emily and the others started to nod as well.
So Todd and Chase headed towards the shore, where Ruby said the logs were. It took about an hour to get them to where they last saw the rest of the group.
Chase panted heavily, leaning against the driftwood. It was about 3:00 P.M, according to what chase saw in the sky. The humidity beat him as if he was going to be boiled alive. He decided to go back to the shore to cool off in the water when something tapped his shoulder.
He turned around, startled. It was Emily with Halee only a few steps behind her.
"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you." Emily apologized. "But we found a clearing to set up camp. Todd also took the logs there."
"Alright, take me there." He said, standing up to shake the wetness off of him.
Halee and Emily lead them to a standard-sized clearing up against the cliff. Todd was already debarking the logs, while Ruby was assisting him with debarking the driftwood.
"Where is Mia?" Chase immediately asked.
"She's in search of dinner. We also don't have enough logs to make a four-sided shelter, so we're making a wall against the cliff if you want to help Todd and Ruby out."
"Help is appreciated!" Todd impeded.
Chase decided to help out to build the shelter. Todd argued to make windows, so they added small ones on the sides since he won a rock-paper-scissors contest with him. When they were done, the sun was already setting, and they had finally built a decent sized shelter.
"Mia's still not back yet…" Halee said in a worried tone of voice.
Then at an impeccable timing, Mia emerged from the trees into the clearing, holding a few green coconuts, bananas, and some mangoes. "This is all I could find." Mia sighed. The sky was fading into a greyish-blue as the orange sun rays stretched through the sky. Todd gathered some twigs and set them down in the shelter where there was an opening. It was near the end of it, but not quite.
"Welcome back. Thank you, Mia." Ruby said. Mia laid down the fruit in the middle of the clearing as everyone gathered around the pile. Chase pulled out his knife and sliced an opening through the top of it, as water surged in it as he laid it down to grab a mango.
"Yeah, thank you." Chase nodded as the others only smiled.
Once everyone was finished, they managed to eat it all. He also had to cut open everyone's coconuts as well, which was slightly aggravating. Todd went into the shelter to start a small campfire, which was successful. The fire burned humbly, only about six inches tall. The others came inside after a few minutes, and they settled down in various parts of the shelter. The night sky came through the cracks of the logs, and Chase threw in a few twigs to help the fire keep burning. Despite being the only things that they had, the coconut still tasted amazing having them not eating anything for lunch and six hours at least. They felt as if they've been on this island for a millennium although it's only been a few hours. Still, they wouldn't get used to this. It could surely be a nice change away from the hustling and bustling life in the city or even in the suburbs. it was kind of serene and peaceful. nobody knows what to think besides for well, I guess it happened, they were on a mysterious Island, now with the mysterious pilot Todd.
"So, what are you all thinking?" Chase questioned. He looked around at the others looking at the fire, then turned to him. Todd was drinking his coconut water then laid it down on the ground.
"I'm doing great, don't know about you, but I feel like this is going to turn out fine and we will be able to get back home. As long as we don't die!"
"Now you could have left out the 'as long as we don't die,' you know." Ruby yawned. She was edging closer to the fire- it was freezing, and Chase noticed he had goosebumps, Something isn't right. He could feel it.
He could hear a buzzing and a rustling in the bushes behind him. He saw snakes curled up in trees, some climbing down and soon the other snakes joined at quite a fast speed. Swarms of furious bumblebees blotted out the sky. There were over one hundred of both, the snakes and bees. Todd walked in front of them and pulled out a crossbow and loaded it with dynamite attached to the arrow, along with a few glow sticks. He threw the glow sticks up in the air and shot the arrow, as a loud BOOM! exploded the bees all with pinpoint accuracy. He loaded another TNT arrow and shot the snakes with another BOOM! In one shot, Todd had killed all the bees that were in the sky, along with ten snakes. The other snakes bolted into the trees, and Chase now only heard distant hissing, trying to process what had happened. But before they could even process what happened the rest of the snakes jumped down from the tree to go after Todd he slashed two off of him but the rest wrapped around him restraining him. The rest of the snakes went after the others. As one jumped at chase he just turned and grabbed it and just snapped and all of the snakes vaporized. They all just sat down as if nothing happened, "I feel like this is going to happen a lot. Emily, our magic aura is strong and it attracts magic beasts. Although it's not weak enough to attract monsters this feeble." Chase took a breath, "We will go more into that tomorrow, but tonight we should get some sleep." They all just laid down near the hot charcoals and went to sleep.
Halee woke up to Chase staring out at the ocean in front of him. She walked up to him and started looking where he was, "So what are you thinking Chase?" She asked.
"I was just wondering who the other person was, the one that had the special powers," Chase responded
"Well, it's me! I'm the deity of infinite knowledge," she sighed and laughed "Todd is a legendary archer and he's pretty good with guns as well, you and Emily are gods, and Ruby is a degenerate but she has an ability that we haven't discovered yet. Mia is a trained fortune teller, it sounds lame, I know."
"Wow, that's amazing". Chase said, "We should be able to survive this island with ease."
"Yeah," Halee said.
She kissed him on the cheek and then went back to the fire, smiling ready to go back to sleep. Chase was caught off guard by this but just lay down where he was and just went to sleep, truly content.
