The sun was shining, and The Boss was sitting outside, enjoying the warmth. Like a cat, she was almost purring and restoring and weaving her magic together. Everything was quiet. Cinderella had left for five days now, and she wondered if Cinderella was having a good time. The Boss chuckled. Who would've thought? After all these years of leading a lonely life, looking over her shoulder all the time. More fighting to live than actually living. She sighed.
'It's boring.'
A cat had wandered in the yard. She was black with a blue hue surrounding her. She looked strangely familiar, and the Boss stood up to approach the animal curiously.
'Hi there. How did you get here?' The garden was surrounded by a fence that didn't have a door. She crouched down, and the cat looked up at her. Her blue eyes being the most remarkable thing about her. The Boss extended her hand to pet the little head, but the cat disappeared at that exact moment, only to reappear a meter to the left.
The Boss froze in her spot. Teleportation. She had only seen that magic once. At that time, she was young and didn't know about a lot of things. 'How did you do that?' Of course, the cat didn't answer. It licked its paw and wandered off. It went to the edge of the yard and looked back at her, almost if asking: Are you coming? The Boss stood up and followed the cat.
The cat went through the fence without blinking, and The Boss was left standing. Years ago, someone had taught her to teleport, but she had never used it again and had forgotten all about it. She used her powers instead to push herself off the ground and over the fence. The cat was there. Waiting patiently. The Boss didn't know if it was her imagination, but she could see the cat was disappointed. If that made any sense.
The cat walked further into the woods that were behind the house. It walked faster and faster, so The Boss walked faster and faster as well. If anyone saw her right now, they would think she had lost her mind. And honestly, The Boss would agree with them.
Why was she following a cat into the woods? Yes, it could teleport but she could do greater things than that. But it was that subtle kind of magic that made her follow the little animal.
Weeks ago, she had sent a letter. The weeks went by, and she didn't know when and even if she would respond. This was the first and only sign she got that she was even alive. The Boss hoped it wasn't a fraud.
Teleportation magic isn't difficult. A dedicated someone with even a sliver of magic could do it. But still. Maybe this was the person she was looking for. The person who could help her.
The cat finally slowed down a little and stopped completely at an open spot in the woods. Trees were standing in an almost perfect circle. Other than some rocks and the cat sitting in the middle, there was nothing.
'Where are we, little one? Where did you bring me?' The Boss started to enter the open space, and when she did, she suddenly saw, only inches away, a little cabin. Once again, she froze in her place.
The cat started walking again, and the door of the cabin swung open, inviting it in.
Now, the cabin wasn't that special; some wooden walls, a wooden door, and a small window. Smoke was coming out of the chimney. It was special for The Boss because of the little flower on the wooden door.
A little rose.
She didn't move from her spot. She couldn't even move a finger. Then, she heard something coming out of the cabin.
The person who came out was older than she remembered. Grey hair suited her, and lines in her face marked her age. She was definitely older than The Boss.
'You're not going to come in?' The person still had the soft voice she used to have. 'Didn't you sent me a letter to help you?'
That seemed to do the trick. The Boss's eyes started to water, and when she embraced the person she needed the most right now, The Boss was crying.
The older woman embraced her back. 'I've missed you, Heloise.'
With the mention of her old name, The Boss hugged the woman tighter. After all these years, maybe this was exactly what she wanted to hear.
Heloise. Fighter.
