At those words, Emma got teary, her heart beat being quickened by a tenfold.
"W-what?" She stammered.
"Is this the time you tell me this is some cruel joke?" She asked, fighting back tears as she looked at her boyfriend, who felt miserable.
"Please," she begged, tears threatening to fall.
Not only was he miserable, hurting the woman he loved, it pained him, as his heart felt like it was being ripped from his chest and crushed.
He fought back tears as he managed, "Emma, I'm so sorry, it's not."
"Me being king, it'll only hurt you," he said next, as he watched tears slide down Emma's porcelain cheeks.
She shook her head repeatedly, trying to somehow convince herself it won't even if she knew the truth, also noticing this was the first time he had called her by her name after they had started dating.
She was in denial. Pure, sweet denial.
