For Huang Gou Heng the incoherent babbling of passersby as he drove along the seemingly endless waves of people was nothing but the buzzing of static and unintelligible conversations between blurry faces. When laughter entered his ears he would subtly frown and actively tune out as best he could to avoid the sharp ear-piercing shriek of happiness others expressed that interrupts his thoughts. His surroundings though filled with the liveliness of human beings felt dull, lifeless, and numb despite their active surface. Being stopped by the red light above him his solemn gaze was unintentionally drawn to the silent corner between buildings filled to the brim with filth and neglect. Like him, there were only shadows and dirty garbage within sight after he laid his eyes upon the alley. No fluctuations were to be seen within his expression as he glanced at the alleyway with the apathy almost everyone in the city had also done.
