Chereads / The Only Leveling System / Chapter 111 - Sudden Farewell

Chapter 111 - Sudden Farewell

'Roy, bring Alex to the broken-down building from before. You know, the one where the girl who stole my watch went. Wait for me there.' Rem ordered, using telepathy.

'Understood.' Roy replied.

...

Two long, tiring hours passed.

'That lie detector man is finally gone! Thankfully, he did. I don't think I could escape from him... Time to get out of these shackles...!' Rem moved around, trying to get the mini sword inside her right pocket out.

Rem grabbed the mini sword that was on the floor, using it to unlock the shackles.

'The glowing, golden eyes guy said with the shackles on, I can't use any magic or break it using force. However, these shackles need a key to lock them. Instead of getting the key, I can simply use this mini dagger to unlock this... I just need some time...!' Rem began to pick the lock that was on the shackles.

'And... Done!' Rem stood up, pretending to still have the shackles on.

There were a few guards outside Rem's cell. Activating her Stealth skill, Rem broke the cell's bars using her strength and quickly knocked all the guards that were in sight out. During the time she was in the cell, she already looked over all the possible escape routes in the building. With ease, Rem escaped the building, running towards the place she told Roy to meet her at.

...

"Commander! The monster has escaped...!" A knight reported.

'How...? How did that monster break through the shackles? There's only one key. I'm the only one who has the key to those shackles. How is that possible???' Lawrence slammed his palm on the table, causing the knight inside his office to flinch.

"I'll draw how the monster looks like in her human form. For now, tell the knights to look around the city for a girl with black hair up to her upper shoulders and red eyes." Lawrence demanded, beginning to draw how Rem looks like.

...

Rem arrived at the broken-down building, searching for where Roy and Alex were. When she arrived, she saw Alex play with the other kids.

"Why did you come here?" The girl who stole her pocket watch asked.

"Let's just say we got kicked out. Don't worry, because we'll be leaving soon." Rem reassured.

"Ehhh??? We're going to leave soon? Do we have to...?" Alex looked at Rem, not wanting to leave.

"We'll have to leave sooner or later." Rem replied.

"Shouldn't we be getting something in return?" The girl butted in.

"Being a little bargainer now, aren't we? Well, why not. Let us stay for a day or two. I'll give you this in exchange." Rem stated, trying to find a sword for the girl to use.

A minute later, Rem managed to find the perfect weapon for the girl.

'This dagger is small, light, sharp, and durable.' Rem thought, purchasing the weapon for 3,000 Uken.

"Here... This should do it, right?" Rem gave the girl the dagger she bought in the shop.

The girl nodded.

"Keep your mouth shut, and you can keep these as well." Rem threw a bag filled with silver coins towards the girl.

The girl caught the bag of coins, surprised by how much money there was inside.

"You better keep your mouth shut about us being here or else you'll regret it...!" Rem warned, releasing a tiny bit of her killing intent.

The girl trembled, nodding.

*WAAAAHHH!!!

A few kids that were playing with Alex cried after Rem released her killing intent.

{You're not good with kids.}

'You're right...' Rem sighed, buying a few bars of chocolate from the shop.

She gave one to everyone.

"You can have this, so don't cry. Please...?" Rem seemed perplexed.

*Sniff...

"Wuu... You're scary!" One of the kids pointed out.

Everyone looked at Rem.

"Eat the chocolate already." Rem said, changing the subject.

"How do we know there isn't any poison in them? Huh...? W-Wait! Don't eat it!!!" The girl panicked, trying to stop everyone from eating the chocolate.

"There aren't any." Rem stated.

"She would never poison us!" Alex said loudly, eating the chocolate to show them that it wasn't poisonous.

The kids reluctantly took a bite of the chocolate.

"This is delicious!" One of the kids exclaimed.

"Wow... It's sweet!" Another one said.

Rem smiled slightly when she saw them brighten up by the sweet taste of chocolate. Suddenly, Rem felt a strong presence nearby.

'Oh, shoot! It's the lie detector!!!'

"We can't stay for the night. We're leaving once it turns dark," Rem ordered.

Roy nodded as Alex pouted.

'Should I tell Rina and the others...? No, I need to at least tell them that I'm leaving.' Rem concluded.

Rem used her creation magic to create an envelope and a sheet of paper. She used her magic to write on the paper. After Rem finished writing what she wanted to tell the other, she closed the envelope, making sure to only make it so the people she wanted can open and see the letter and the message on it.

'Done... This should do it.'

"Karasu." Rem summoned the slightly oversized shadow raven.

"Whoa!!!" A kid pointed at the black raven.

"Yes, Master?" Karasu appeared in front of Rem, flying in the air.

"It can even talk!" Another one yelled, shocked.

The girl was surprised as well. Alex wasn't surprised at all because he knew how powerful Rem is. Rem ignored the others, minding her own business.

"Deliver this letter to the cabin we were at before. The one near the shore. Put it in Rina's room."

"Understood." Karasu flew towards the cabin, going throw the walls like a ghost.

The kids glanced at Rem once in a while, forgetting about the raven.

"How did you do that?" The girl asked, still on guard.

"Magic." Rem answered, looking at the kids who continued to play.

The girl stared at Rem. Roy just stood there, watching what was going on around him while Alex played with the other kids.

...

'Huh? What's this...?' Karina wondered, taking the envelope that was on the small counter next to her bed.

She touched the envelope, causing it to glow for a few seconds. Then, she took the paper inside the envelope and read it.

[To whoever is reading this,

You should be Rina. If you're not, I don't know how you're even reading this. Anyways, Rina. Please tell the others that I'll be leaving for a while. I promise we'll meet again one day. When I come back, I'll make sure to give you guys a souvenir. I recommend you to not trust anyone. It's for your own safety.

From,

Your first-ever friend.]

'W-Wait... What??! Remie...! What are you thinking???' Karina sighed, seeing the letter disappear from her hands.

'Eh? Why did it disappear all of a sudden?' Karina wondered, looking around her surroundings.

She was a little flustered by what just happened.

'Well, whatever... Remie must have a reason for leaving. I hope she's going to be alright. I'm glad she at least sent a letter instead of leaving without telling us anything. Whatever you're doing Remie, I'm your first-ever friend. You can rely on me. I'm kind of sad that Remie's always independent. She never depends on others...!' Karina thought, feeling dejected by the news and how Rem acts.

'Urgh, I'm mad...' Karina huffed, deciding that she would knock some sense into Rem when she sees her again.

'Come to think of it, Roy and his cousin both aren't here. Did they go somewhere or did they leave with Remie?' Karina shook her head, trying to get all the questions she has out of her head.

'Okie dookie! I'm going to tell the others now. Thinking about Remie leaving will only make me feel even lonelier.' Karina stared at the window for a second, walking towards the others to deliver the news to them.

...

Everyone was gathered inside the living room.

"Rem said she's leaving," Karina announced.

"What??! Rem is leaving? Do you mean the Rem? That Rem...? The one and only Rem I know???" Oliver yelled, eyes widening.

"Yes..." Karina replied.

Yukino was sitting on the couch, having the same indifferent face on her as usual. Yukio stood there, speechless.

"Do you know where she's leaving to?" Kaito asked, waiting for Karina's reply.

"No, I don't. She only said she's leaving. That's all." Karina answered.

She only told them half of what Rem told her in the letter, but Karina decided to keep the rest to herself. She didn't feel the need to tell the others about Rem warning her to be careful.

"Hm... Alright. You guys should go sleep." Kaito suggested.

"Yeah, it's late." Karina agreed, walking towards her room.

Yukino and Yukio went to their room. Oliver went back to his room too. Kaito was the only one who just stood there. His brows furrowed as he exited the cabin, walking towards the beach. When he arrived near the shores, he looked around, making sure nobody was nearby. Then, he pulled a thin, rectangle-shaped device out of his pocket. He began to talk on the device.

...

"It's time for us to leave." Rem announced.

Alex said goodbye to his new friends. Rem waved goodbye to them, reminding them to not tell anyone that they had been there. She put on invisibility on Alex, Roy, and herself. Roy shifted into his dragon form as Rem told where Roy should go.

"Where are we going?" Alex asked.

Rem and Alex both sat on Roy in his dragon form. Alex sat in front of Rem.

"East." Rem answered, looking at the map to make sure they're going the right way.

During the time Rem was waiting for nightfall, she already decided where to go.

"Kiii!"

"Yes, Roy. I'll give you some jerkies when we arrive," Rem promised.

"What are jerkies?" Alex asked.

"They're pieces of dried meat." Rem answered.

"I want some too!" Alex stated, making a pouting face.

"After we land." Rem replied, watching the city lights perish the farther they were.

Alex nodded, enjoying the breeze.
