After feeding Roy, Rem disguised herself and ran towards the Arena. After arriving at the Arena, the first thing Rem did was telling the receptionist that she wanted to challenge the ranked 40th person. The receptionist nodded, already knowing what to do since Rem was a regular at the Arena these days.
•••
Hours had passed and Rem finally reached ranked 10th.
'I have 2 hours left before the Arena closes. I better challenge the ranked 1st person.' Rem walked towards the receptionist.
"I would like to challenge the ranked 1st person." Rem said.
"Yes, of course. I'll call right away." The receptionist called the ranked 1st person.
"Hello? Is this the ranked 1st person?" The receptionist asked.
"Yes, I am." A man answered on the other side of the phone call.
"The ranked 10th person has challenged you." The receptionist continued.
"I see. Tell the challenger that if he wants to challenge me, he or she is going to have a death duel with me." The man said.
"He said he's going to do a death duel..." The receptionist told Rem.
"Will the challenger accept?" The man asked, doubting his challenger would accept since so far, only one person had accepted having a death duel with him but unfortunately, the challenger ended up losing.
"May I get on the phone?" Rem asked the receptionist.
"Of course." The receptionist handed the phone to Rem.
"I'll accept your challenge. Please come here as fast as possible since there are only around 2 hours before the Arena closes." Rem said, after taking the phone from the receptionist.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" The man laughed crazily.
"I don't know if you're just dumb or what but alright..! Get ready to die!!! I'll be there in 10 minutes." The man said, ending the call.
News spread very fast. Only about 5 minutes have passed and almost everyone in the city found out that there would be a deathmatch in the Arena today.
"Are you the challenger who's participating in the deathmatch?" An old man asked, pointing his cane at Rem when he entered.
"That's correct." Rem replied.
"GAHAHAHAHA! Young men like you should really cherish your life more... Well, that doesn't really matter since I'll have something entertaining to watch today. You know, it's been more than a decade since someone did a deathmatch! This will be very entertaining..!" The old man laughed, walking towards the Arena seats.
'People sure like to laugh loudly these days...' Rem thought, ignoring all the noise.
"You must be the person who challenged me." The man smiled at Rem.
'He's plotting something..!' Rem could sense it.
"Yes, let's get started already. We don't have all day." Rem wanted to become 1st place as soon as possible and didn't like wasting time.
"How impatient. I can't believe a commoner like you has challenged me..." The man mumbled as he looked at how Rem was dressed.
Although the man was mumbling very silently, Rem heard what he said loud and clear.
'How rude. There are still people like that no matter where I go...' Rem sighed in frustration and walked to the Arena.
In a deathmatch, you were able to use any weapon you want. Magic items, armor, and potions are not allowed. Rem decided to not use any weapon since she was a mage. Apparently, the first ranked person was called Henry Williams. He's a noble and is the only son of the Williams family. Henry's father is a viscount but the Williams family was almost bankrupt. What saved them was when Henry became ranked 1st in the Arena. Now, they earned most of their money from Henry.
"The judge has arrived," Henry said, smirking.
The match was about to start and all the seats in the Arena were filled. Some even had to stand to watch the deathmatch. Many people put their bets on Henry, who they thought would win. Barely anyone made a bet on Rem. The person who betted the most on Rem was, of course, Nor. Nor came to watch the match because he thought it would be interesting. He knew Rem would win anyway.
"Start the match! Start the match!" The audience chanted.
A few noble families also went to watch the match. After the chanting, the referee spoke using a magic microphone.
"Get ready! The match will begin in 3..! 2..! 1..! Start!!!" The referee said.
Henry smirked and dashed towards Rem. He's using a sword. Rem could sense that the sword was very powerful. In the audience, Rem could sense a few mages buffing Henry.
'Urg... Cheaters! They're playing dirty. I hate these kinds of people..! No wonder nobody won...' Rem thought angrily, using her shadow magic to block Henry's attacks.
'Let's end this quickly!' Rem used her shadow magic which was she can make it sharper than any sword.
Before Henry could react, his head was sliced off, clean.
*ShInG!
Many gasped. After a moment, some cheered while others booed, knowing that they've lost the bet.
"T-the winner is... Rem!" The referee yelled.
Many people in the audience cheered in excitement.
The mages who buffed Henry was horrified. They quickly ran away.
'I should probably kill them later... I'll wait for them to tell their boss about this..!' Rem sighed and walked to the referee who changed her card's rank and handed it back to Rem.
'Finally, I'm ranked 1st.' Rem took the card back.
"Where do I get my rewards?" Rem asked the referee.
"Go talk to the receptionist." The referee answered.
"Thanks." Rem walked towards the receptionist.
When Rem arrived in front of the receptionist, the receptionist already knew what to do.
"Here's all the money you've earned." The receptionist gave Rem huge bags filled with money.
"Thank you." Rem took the money and stored it in her inventory.
'I'm not even surprised that this young man has a large inventory...' The receptionist smiled at Rem.
"The Arena tournament ends this Saturday. You will get your rewards after our boss announces the official ranks in the Arena at 3:00 p.m." The receptionist explained.
"Thanks for telling me." Rem said sincerely.
"Thank you as well." The receptionist bowed.
Rem nodded and left the Arena.
'Today's a Thursday. It's almost 8 p.m. I better get back to my dorm room. After all, Roy's waiting for me. Plus, I have to finish reading the books I got from the forbidden library.' Rem thought, walking towards her dorm room.
