Chapter 43 - This City's Arena

Rem decided to go back to her dorm room to give some jerkies for Roy.

'I should check what else the Adventurer's Guild has... Maybe I can get some better privileges.' Rem thought, handing Roy a few jerkies.

"Roy, would you like to come with me? You need to get some exercise once in a while or else you will become an oversized lizard, you know." Rem said, worried that Roy would become one.

"KIII!!!" Roy yelled angrily and nodded after a slight pause, forgiving Rem for what she said to him because she was right.

"Then c'mon. Get in my backpack. We're off to the Adventurer's Guild." Rem told Roy.

"Kiii!" Roy climbed into Rem's backpack.

Rem activated her disguise to look like a young man. Then, she activated her stealth so nobody would notice her when she's going to the Adventurer's Guild.

"Now off we go." Rem said as she put on her backpack and went outside by jumping off from her dorm window.

Although the window was on the 5th floor, Rem had no problems because she was a Kager.

In a few minutes, Rem arrived at the Adventurer's Guild. She walked over to the receptionist.

"Hello again. I was wondering if there's there a way to have some better privileges in the Adventurer's Guild... Is there anything you can do to get these privileges?" Rem asked.

"Of course there is. One way you can do that is by participating in the arena. Although it's not owned by us, we will give you better benefits depending on how well you do in the arena because the arena is how we determine an Adventurer's skills. Depending on how well you do in the arena, your rewards and privileges will vary. Another way is to make some achievements but you would need to be higher than level 100 to do that. I believe there is no other way other than completing quests and participating in the arena for now." The receptionist answered.

"I see... Can you tell me more details about the arena, please?" Rem was interested in participating in the arena.

"First of all, you would obviously have to register to participate in the arena. After registering, you will be given a special card that shows your rank in the arena. This arena is a place where people duel each other. You may challenge anyone that's at most, ten ranks above you. After challenging someone to a duel, you would have to battle them. If you lose, your rank will stay the same but if you win, the person you challenged will lose their rank and your rank will change into theirs. Before a match starts, anyone may make a bet on whoever they think will win. This is just another way for people to earn money. Anyway, if you are ranked in the top 100, you would receive a bronze card. The top 20 would receive a silver card. The top 10 would receive a gold card. The top rank, which is rank 1, would get a platinum card. These cards would give you special privileges such as being able to get resources and being able to gain help from people from a higher authority. I'm not sure about what the reward for being the first place this year is. Every year, the rewards would differ." The receptionist explained.

'Interesting... I should participate.' Rem thought.

"Where's the arena and how do you register?" Rem asked.

"The arena is on the Southside of this city. You can register by speaking with the receptionist there. If you plan to participate, I must warn you. It's dangerous because there are many high leveled people participating. The highest level for this arena in this city is level 100. Be careful." The receptionist warned.

"Got it. Thanks." Rem left the Adventurer's Guild and walked towards the arena.

After walking for around 10 minutes, Rem finally arrived at the arena.

'Whoa... It's huge!!!' Rem thought.

'Why am I even surprised?' Rem sighed and walked to the receptionist to register.

"I would like to register to participate in the arena." Rem said.

"Of course. May I see your Adventurer's Card?" The receptionist asked politely.

"Here." Rem handed the receptionist her card.

"Please wait a moment..." The receptionist took the card and scanned it.

In a blink of an eye, a card was created after a device scanned the Adventurer's Card.

"This will be your Arena Card. Take good care of it. The rules and more information about the arena are on the board over there. Thank you for registering." The receptionist handed Rem her Adventurer's Card and Arena Card.

"Thank you." Rem took the two cards and thanked the receptionist.

Rem looked at the Arena Card in her hand. The card was light grey colored and had the Arena's logo on it. The logo was just a long piece of wheat surrounding the letter, A, in a perfect circle. It's located at the top middle section of the card. Underneath the card name was Rem's name and rank number.

'The Arena Card looks so plain...' Rem thought.

'Anyway, I should read the rules before doing anything. Breaking the rules will just create more problems and that's not good. Only idiots don't read the rules before fighting.' Rem thought as she walked towards the board.

Rem read the rules on the board.

'Looks easy enough. I should get my rank higher right now.' Rem walked to the receptionist.

"I would like to challenge the 190th ranked person." Rem said.

"Alright. I will call him right now. Please wait for a moment." The receptionist dialed a phone number.

After a few minutes, the receptionist finished calling the 190th ranked person.

"He said he can do a Classic Duel with you. He's going to arrive in ten minutes." The receptionist said.

"Thanks."

'How annoying... Waiting would take a long time.'

{Be patient.}

'Fine. I guess it can't be helped.' Rem sighed.

'Sorry, Roy... I don't think you would get any exercise today since I was carrying you. I need to find a way for you to get some exercise without anyone noticing you...'

During the 10 minutes Rem was waiting for the 190th ranked person, Rem thought about ways to train Roy. Unfortunately, she couldn't think of anything.

"I have arrived. Are you Rem?" A man that looked like he's around 16 years old asked.

"Yes." Rem answered.

"Let's go to the arena and get a referee." The man walked towards the arena where a few others were battling.

The arena had many sections where people would fight. There were crowds of people in the seating area, watching the show. Rem stood at one side of the arena while her opponent was at the opposite side from her. Rem walked up to the middle of the arena and looked at her opponent's stats.

'He shouldn't be that hard to beat.' Rem thought, after looking at her opponent's stats.
