It was about a month after meeting everyone that anyone noticed what was going on. It was three fifty-six in the morning when a scream broke the silence that accompanied the night.
"Sebastien!" was the only thing that came from her mouth before her adopted brother broke into the room his face set in a mask of panic.
"What?! What's wrong Pine?" he demanded as he came closer recognizing the signs of a sleepless night full of nightmares.
"I-it happened a-again, I'm so s-scared wh-what if you actually leave me, and it's not just a dr-dream?" she asked, her voice wavered at the mere thought of losing her brother, the only person that had been with her throughout everything that had happened to her.
"I would never leave you Pine, you know this, your my sister don't forget that, and what do siblings do?" Sebastien asked ignorant to the listening ears from the other side of the door.
"Th-they never le-leave e-each other, ri-right?" Pine asked her voice hoarse and soft from the earlier screaming she had done.
"Yeah, siblings don't leave each other, never Pine, never you hear me, I will never leave you," he said with so much conviction in his voice that it stunned the people listening.
"S-sorry for do-doubting y-you big br-brother…." Pine whispered feeling disappointed that she had once again doubted the only person who had always been there for her no matter what. 'I'm sorry big brother.' she mentally whispered knowing that if she said anything out loud she would only be told that it was 'fine and it didn't matter.'
"Pine, you know that it's ok to sometimes have doubts, especially with how you have been treated in the past." Sebastien sighed, holding her in her arms as her tears, he doubted she knew where there, dried. Knowing that no matter what he said she would still be upset with herself for doubting him, he resigned himself to spending the night in her room, not that he minded, honestly they both slept better when they were in the same room together. So he settled himself onto her bed while also making sure that she was comfortable, the two children currently in the bed were painfully unaware of the older ears listening from outside the door.
The adults outside the door stayed and listened until they were sure that the two children were sleeping after they were sure they walked to Silver's office and sat down trying to think of a way that they could peacefully confront the children about what had just happened.
"Ruby, do you have any ideas on what to do?" a purple-haired female asked from her position on the floor next to the desk that Silver was at.
"I may have an idea, but it may take a little while." a redheaded male said.
"Well let's hear it, Michael, I want to try and help these two kids." said another redheaded male, this one older than both Michael and Ruby.
"Ok, so uh, don't laugh at me for this, but we could try and have them attend minor therapy sessions." as soon as the words left his mouth the sound of flesh on flesh sounded through the room as its occupants all facepalmed.
"And now why didn't I think of this before." Sylvia sighed as she rubbed her temples in frustration. Michael blinked and tilted his head slightly in response to their reaction to his suggestion, he had honestly thought that they were going to call him an idiot and leave the idea in the dust.
"Outsmarted by a child, you know Michael sometimes I wonder where you get your smarts from, cause it's obviously not me," William said, shaking his head in disappointment, but his tone holding pride for his son's choice.
"So we're decided then? We are going to have the little ones attend therapy?" a hazel-eyed male asked from next to William. Silver sighed and stood up, pulling all attention to him immediately.
"Yes, we are. But we will wait till later in the day to tell them." Silver sighed, sounding stressed. Ruby slightly furrowed her brow at the tired sounding words.
"Ok everyone, it's time to go back to sleep," Ruby ordered, taking charge and stepping forward. Silver shot her a confused glance, she shook her head letting him know that she'd tell him later. They both watched as everyone else filled out of the room quietly and into their rooms to get some shut-eye for the night.
"You seem so stressed lately, what has you so worked up?" the redhead asked, moving behind him as she started to rub his shoulders gently causing him to release a sigh of relief as she worked the knots out of his upper back.
"It's just that they are going to be here in a few days, and I don't want anything to happen to Pine and Sebastien," he muttered as Ruby worked her magic, releasing the tension from his shoulders.
"Silv, you shouldn't worry about it too much, everyone here loves those kids, they wouldn't let anything happen to them, not that Sebastien would let Pine next to them if he felt he couldn't trust them," she murmured into his ear as he slowly relaxed further under her ministrations.
"You're right Ruby, god what would I do without you?" he responded quietly looking up into Ruby's sparkling eyes.
"I think that you would have lost your mind from the stress." she leaned down and gently kissed the top of his forehead. "We should probably go to bed as well, don't you think?" she smiled down at him. He in turn nodded his head, got up, and started walking to the door with Ruby by his side. As they walked down the halls Silver started to wonder what his life would be like if he hadn't found Pine and Sebastien, then he sighed and shook his head, knowing that lie would probably be quite boring if it weren't for the sleeping miracles in the room right next to theirs. He then turned the corner that led to the doorway of his and Ruby's room, opening the door he quickly peaked into Pine's room checking to be sure they were ok, after confirming that the children were fine he followed Ruby into the room and laid down, wrapping his arms around the redhead he was engaged to he soon fell asleep, his dreams coming peaceful and calm.
It was around seven the next day when they were woken up by the small voice of the black-haired little girl they had taken in.
"M-Mr. Silver, Ms, Ru-Ruby, co-could you m-make us br-breakfast?" Pine asked, holding a black and white, stuffed, striped tiger in her arms. Smiling the two adults slowly crawled out of bed.
"Of course we can baby, just give us a minute to get dressed," Ruby said, patting her head, smiling when she saw the tiny smile bloom across the little girl's face.
"Th-Thank you Ms. R-Ruby," Ray said smiling as she hurried out of the room to go tell Sebastien that they were going to cook them breakfast. They hurriedly got dressed and left the room, they walked down the hall and towards the stairs after they reached the bottom of the stairwell they both headed to the kitchen to start preparing breakfast for the kids. When they entered the kitchen they were both surprised to find that Sebastian and Pine had already gotten out the food and prepared it, so all that was left to do was cook it.
"Did you two do this?" Silver asked looking at the two sitting at the kitchen table, both of them nodded their heads in sync.
"Mhm, we d-did Mr. S-Silver," Ray said happily while Sebastien just nodded his head quietly.
"You two are good kids, I don't understand how anyone could not want you," Ruby said, grabbing the kids and pulling them into her for a hug. After holding them there for about a minute she let go and then turned to where Silver was starting to put things in the oven deciding to let him finish she walked over to the cabinets and started to get plates, cups, and silverware, setting them on the table, Pine and Sebastien sat them up before she could even think to move them to their correct places. Blinking slightly dumbfounded they only smiled innocently from their positions next to each other, shaking her head slightly she smiled and sat down across from Sebastien leaving the seat next to her and across from Pine, open for Silver. Completely forgoing the wait period Silver grabbed his and Ruby's cup, set them down on the counter, and started to pour the coffee into the cups when Anthony walked in, Silver quickly shot a look at Ruby as she too stood up, blocking his view of Pine and Sebastien as quick as she could.
"Anthony." Silver greeted drawing his attention to me, grating my teeth. Racking his brain for a reason that he could be here.
"Ah, just the person I was looking for, Mr. Silver," he said, his voice sounding like a snake in disguise.
