"Aaargh! Fuck!" the boy exclaimed, who was not ready to defend himself and no longer having his weapon available, stuck in the enemy's trachea, put both hands in front of his face.
Klein's hand hit Layton's forearms and severe pain pervaded his upper body when his fingernails, sharper than the claws of a ferocious beast, scratched the boy's flesh, causing him superficial but painful wounds.
Continuing to scream, Layton was pushed backward and fell to the ground, feeling the pain in his back stronger than before and still trying to protect his face with his arms as the monster pounced on him, spreading his arms and positioning himself with his face before that of the boy.
"Leave him! Layton, be careful!" Faith yelled, running without control towards Klein and grabbing the piece of metal stuck in his neck, moving it to the other side with all the force she had, and shattering his cervical vertebrae that held his skull attached to his spine.
*crack*
The surreal noise emitted by Faith's surprise attack stunned Layton, who peered over his hands, noticing that Klein's face was still dangling on his, practically hanging from his neck, and the blood dripping from the large wound was gushing over his chest, completely dirtying his uniform.
"Aaagh! Fuck it!" Layton yelled, realizing that their enemy was not dead yet and that his arms kept keeping his torso high above him.
With a rapid movement of his back, the doctor dropped Faith, who failed to hold the weapon slid into his neck and slipped, ending up more than a meter away from her companion.
Klein's hand moved again and, rising from the bloody floor, grabbed Layton's jaw, resting two of his pointed fingers on his lips and trying to forcefully open his mouth.
"Mmmh! Mmh! Mmmmh!"
The janitor's screams became moans of fear, as he strained all the muscles in his face to keep his jaw closed and with his hands grabbed Klein's wrist, trying unsuccessfully to move that big hand from his face.
With Faith on the ground stunned by the fall and his only weapon being moved to the bottom of Klein's neck, which straddled above him and had superhuman strength, Layton's chances of survival were reduced every second more.
The strength of both his arms could not move Klein's wrist even a millimeter and his mouth still closed, it was right in the direction of the wide-open mouth of the monstrous doctor, whose head, subject only to the force of gravity, hung downwards.
Even the doctor's fingers, despite being only two, were somehow succeeding in their intent and when Klein's other hand joined the first, resisting became practically impossible: in addition to the fingers that tried incessantly to open his mouth, all the other hand was used to plug Layton's nose and thus prevent him from breathing.
Caught in survival instincts, Layton's eyes moved autonomously towards Faith, verifying that her body was still on the ground and she was staring off into space, while her mind already imagined that after her partner, it would be her turn to be devoured.
In a seemingly senseless gesture, attempting to cling to his waist until the last moment, the boy left Klein's wrists with one hand and stretched out his arm sideways, frantically touching the floor and hoping that his palm would reach something useful.
A small, cold metal object tapped his fingers and he grabbed it tightly, inadvertently pressing a button on it.
At the same time as the UV-A flashlight lit up in his hand, his mouth was opened by Klein, who had managed to take his breath away completely.
No longer knowing what to do to save his life, Layton pointed the dark light torch at Klein's eyes, hoping to blind him.
After that gesture, something happened in that C-sector room that had never happened before: when the ultraviolet light generated by the torch struck the retina of Dr. Klein's remaining eye, his white eye suddenly turned red.
"Grrrraaaaaargh!"
Chilling screams mixed with animal verses deafened both Layton and Faith, who were forced to plug their ears because, due to the soundproofed walls, the echoed increased their volume in the room.
Klein's already completely open mouth underwent a further transformation and the skin on its sides tore as if it was a sheet of paper, releasing more blood that fell to the floor.
At the same time, a sticky, disgusting-smelling substance was ejected from his mouth, ending up in Layton's face, which immediately wiped it with the sleeve of his jacket, holding back vomiting due to disgust caused by that liquid, of which a small part had ended up on his tongue.
Klein, after crawling more than a meter away from him and Faith, knelt on the ground with his head facing up and his neck completely soft due to his central bone that had been fractured a few seconds earlier.
Faith's white light torch continued to be pointed at him, and both young janitors noticed that his rib cage and muscleless chest swayed in an absolutely anomalous manner, swelling and deflating differentially.
Layton, sitting on the ground, crept with his hands and feet backward, arriving next to Faith and remaining close to her, not wanting to leave her alone.
The protruding sternum of the old doctor reduced to a zombie made the typical fracture noise, and the bulges of the chest gathered in a single mass, which went from the center of the body to the neck.
When his chest deflated completely, his neck greatly increased its volume, and Klein's lower back touched the floor, being his body unable to withstand all that physical pain.
Suddenly, an elongated tentacle-like body sprang out of his mouth, moving serpentinely upwards and squirting the blood it was covered with.
"Oh, fuck..." Faith said with grainy eyes, while what lived inside poor Dr. Klein's body, made an appearance in the outside world, illuminated by the light of the torch.
Three other tentacles similar to the first, bulging in the same direction and widening radially, simultaneously clung to the doctor's face and neck: although they looked like they were made of a squishy and sticky matter, those long bumps were equipped with many small spines arranged in a row at the bottom of each tentacle.
