Chapter 26 - Roar

A second kick followed the first and then another.

All the shots hit the target and the last kick had the blacklight torch detached from the doctor's head, causing it to bounce off the bed and fall to the ground, right next to Faith, who was still looking for some useful object, holding the regular torch bed in her hands.

Klein's mouth and neck continued to writhe and creak until, after yet another kick, the doctor grabbed Layton's jacket with his other hand and holding him by the chest and neck, threw him across the room, toward the large wardrobe.

*boom*

A loud thud followed the impact of Layton's back against the metal surface of the closet and then the floor and the poor janitor remained in that position, injured, touching his arm on which he had fallen to dead weight.

"Fuck, it hurts! Arrgh... Faith... run away..." he whispered with a thread of voice, trying to use his last words to save that sweet girl, who had always been kind to him despite his scurvy and difficult nature.

Dr. Klein, jumping and continuing to move as if he was a reptile, got out of bed, in total silence, and slowly approached Layton's body, moving his face to the ground and making some noise with his nose, as if he was sniffing the track to follow.

He stopped before him and detached his shriveled hands from the ground, gradually rising to his feet, like a real human being.

His physique, barely visible due to the darkness, was extremely disgusting: like his arms, his legs had thinned so much that the bones and bundles of muscles that enveloped the joints were visible.

Having been in bed for days, in addition to the ripped t-shirt, Klein wore only a pair of dirty, yellowed underpants, originally white.

Layton was able to open his eyes and the scene he saw above him blew his breath: the strange being that only looked like Dr. Klein was right in front of him and his mouth was a few inches from his face.

A disgusting stench came from the deepest trait of his throat as if he was a corpse in an advanced state of decay and yellowish saliva pulled from his mouth on Layton's cheek, who could not hold back a scream.

A moment before Klein was able to hurt the poor boy, the light of the torchlight illuminated him from behind, attracting his attention.

The monstrous being turned and before his faint white eyes managed to focus the image in front of him, a pointed and curved metal object pierced his already injured eye, putting it totally out of games.

"Grooaarghhh!"

A roar never heard before echoed between the metal walls of the room, which, fortunately for Layton and Faith were soundproofed and when Layton managed to distance himself from the monster by crawling backward, he discovered that he had been saved.

Faith had managed to find an ancient globe depicting the Earth and removed its spherical central body, using the curved metal part to hit Dr. Klein, who could not predict it.

"No, no, no! Faith! Faith!" Layton yelled, making strength on his legs and managing to get up, staggering and leaning on the wardrobe so as not to fall to the ground.

The girl retreated in fear, having acted instinctively and not thinking about what to do after she managed to hit that humanoid monster.

Dr. Klein dragged himself towards her, resting one hand on his wounded eye and waving the other one forward as if trying to understand the distance that separated him from his next prey and walking towards her.

Layton grabbed the bloodied piece of metal that had just struck their enemy and, without making any noise, walked towards him, holding that object in his hand as if it was a dagger ready to strike.

Continuing to back down, Faith realized that behind her there was the bathroom wall and that the space to get away from that repulsive being was now over.

"Aaaargh! Help!" the panicked girl yelled, realizing that her end had come, while the distance between her and dr. Klein was decreasing more and more.

Continuing to touch his back that still hurt him, Layton took courage and took a step forward, waving the piece of metal he clutched in his hand and cutting Klein's calf, distracted looking the other way.

After being wounded, the monster in front of him waved and screamed tremendously, stretching both arms towards his leg, which bent over, forcing him to kneel for a moment.

Faith immediately moved away from her position and, trembling like a leaf, ran to the opposite side of the room, behind Layton, who could walk away from there and abandon her to her fate but had chosen to stay and protect her, putting his own life at risk.

"Come on, try to hit me, asshole!" the young janitor exclaimed, trying to load his fighting spirit, moving his rudimentary weapon from hand to hand, despite the acute pain in his lower back.

"Graaargh... groooargh!" Klein yelled, resting both arms on the floor and moving his body forward, dragging his leg behind him with his bloodied calf.

Trying to hold his nerve, Layton stepped back and dodged the first slap, turning the piece of metal he had in his hand and hitting Klein with its pointed tip.

The end of the weapon pierced the doctor's neck and a disgusting noise of bowels echoed in silence, disturbed only by the deep breaths of Layton, who had never been so terrified in his entire life, having never fought against such a monster.

Klein stopped agitating and his arms hung along his body, while his only still intact eye was pointed down.

A few seconds of absolute silence followed that scene and the two janitors remained petrified, hoping that that nightmare was over.

When Layton stopped holding his breath and began to regain full control of his body, still in a state of high tension, Dr. Klein suddenly moved, waving an arm at him and trying to hit him in the face.
