Chapter 23 - Chapter 21 ( Anaphylaxis )

Anaphylaxis

FYI:

Anaphylactic shock is a rare but severe allergic reaction that can be deadly if you don't treat it right away. It's most often caused by an allergy to food, insect bites, or certain medications.

Xander was pacing back and forth trying to relax a bit. They are nowhere in the emergency room, after giving Gena an emergency treatment she still needs a follow-up trip to an emergency room. He knows what happened to Gena, he doesn't know how or what to feel but he's thankful that he's a doctor and very thankful because he always brings with him EpiPen ( adrenaline shot ) on his emergency bag because of Aunt Monisha. For goodness' sake, he's a doctor but when he witnessed how Gena had anaphylaxis he was a little lost for a minute but adrenaline kicked in because of his responsibility as a doctor. Gena needs an injection of EpiPen and a follow-up trip to an emergency room. If he didn't have EpiPen then maybe he might have lost Gena there. If anaphylaxis isn't treated right away, it can be fatal.

I don't think it's her first time to be exposed to an allergen, maybe the first she may have experienced a mild reaction. Gena's symptoms will likely be less severe and will not escalate as quickly. However, multiple exposures may eventually lead to more severe reactions. Once the body has experienced an allergic reaction to an allergen, it becomes much more sensitive to that allergen. This means that even small exposures can potentially trigger severe reactions. I will require her an appointment with an allergist after she recovers.

Flashback

I was still in the middle of rejecting Aunt Monisha with her offer to Gena because I want Gena to focus on her studies when we finally settled in the United States and when she turned 18 we'll get married. But it became complicated when Aunt Monisha stepped in. I don't want to sound like a grumpy old man but ever since I got used to Gena's presence, I felt something inside me that I can't confirm yet.

I respect Aunt Monisha, I treated her as my mom ever since my parents died. I can't just disagree with her because I also know why she's acting like that to Gena. After all, she's still hoping or trying to move on from her missing daughter. I hope that the Private Investigator that I hired will give me a lead one of these days.

"Xander! Emergency! " Aunt Monisha came rushing in.

"Gena needs help, go now she's in the kitchen." She said in a panic.

I was running not minding people's curious look. When I reached the kitchen I saw Gena catching her breath.

I heard someone following and said.

"She's allergic to peanuts! I am sorry I didn't know." She said.

I didn't bother to look at her and just carried Gena before she went unconscious. We reached my car and tried opening the back seat but then someone opened it for me. I saw the same girl earlier opening it. I positioned Gena so she could lie down.

"I am really sorry sir! I didn't know!" She was already in tears.

"Just help me with her please I need to inject EpiPen into her," I instructed her.

She looks hesitant but then she opened the other side of the back seat and held Gena at the back. I got my Medical bag and opened it and took the EpiPen.

" Don't worry I am a doctor. I know what I am doing, can you just please try to raise the hem of her gown to her thighs? " I instructed her.

She did as how I instructed but I stiffened a bit upon seeing Gena's delicate smooth skin I swallowed and avoided the thought and tried to concentrate damn what is happening to me?

I placed the orange tip against the middle of the outer thigh (upper leg) of Gena at a right angle (perpendicular) to the thigh. I swing and push the auto-injector firmly until it "clicks." The click signals that the injection has started. I held it firmly in place for 3 seconds (count slowly 1, 2, 3) then removed the injection. I checked the time 10 minutes passed I sighed in relief.

" She's out of danger, but I will still need to bring her to the emergency room. Go back inside and enjoy the party." I said to her and gave her a reassuring look.

"Thank you, doctor and I am really sorry for Gena." She answered and tried to calm herself from crying.

After a few hours, Gena was still feeling dizzy but she tried opening her eyes when she felt someone watching her intently and checking her pulse then released it after a minute.

" How are you feeling? " he asked. Gena tried adjusting her vision and when finally she had a clear view she found Xander's worried face but it changed when she smiled a bit.

She felt better with the help of the oxygen, she removed the oxygen mask and tried talking but felt weak to speak.

Gena just nodded and thumbs up as a sign that she was feeling better.

Xander sighed as a sign of relief. Then decided to settle the bills he will just take Gena home back to his Penthouse so she can rest comfortably.

It has been two weeks since the last time Gena stepped into Xander's Penthouse so she's feeling a little awkward upon realizing that she will be confined in his Penthouse so Xander can monitor her. She felt helpless but she can't complain she brought this upon herself and she feels that she's a burden to Xander.

Nanny Belen assisted her to change her clothes. She's still wearing the gown from the party so she needs to change to her nightdress so she can properly rest comfortably. She was puzzled as to why some of her clothes are here maybe Xander instructed Nanny Belen to get it in their apartment. She just shrugged her shoulders and felt thankful for all the things that Xander did for her and her sister.
