"I'm sorry, but I don't feel the same way." Those words pierced through Ayami's heart like a dagger. The girl always had the feeling that this was the case. Yet it didn't make it hurt any less to hear Yogi make his official rejection.
"I understand." She did her best to take it well. But behind her fake smile, were shattering emotions. They parted ways from here. When the girl believed that he wouldn't be able to see her, that was when the tears began to stream down her eyes. All of this was in front her her little brother. The one that told her that she should finally confess her feelings.
"I'm so sorry." He said to her. Arata took the entire brunt of the blame for suggesting this to her.
"No no, it's fine." She barely was able to get the words out due to her crying. "I needed to find out eventually." While the girl wanted to maintain a strong face out here in public, it was too hard for her. All she needed was to go home and sob into her pillow.
Which is what happened next. As Ayami cried lying face down on her bed. Arata was sitting there to console her. He hated seeing her like this, but was unsure on how to help mend a broken heart. That wasn't really something he could relate to, given his current situation with his harem. It was unlikely he would have to worry about having a girl he liked not returning those feelings.
"You know, I'm sure there's a better guy out there for you." He said, unsure of what's the best way to provide her comfort. "I mean, Yogi's nice and all, but I just want the best for you."
"Oh Arata." She paused her tears just enough to talk with him. "I appreciate it, but I don't know if I can just get over it that quickly."
"It's fine." He responded. "I'll be there for you no matter how long it takes." She was there for him when he needed it the most. For all those years spent being a recluse, she was the only one that gave him any semblance of a social life. "Of course, I don't think it's healthy if I let you take as long as I did."
"You're right, you're right." She wiped off the tears from her face. "We're both still young. There's no point in moping about just because a boy didn't return my feelings." Ayami knew that she should try and be the big sister she was to him. Acting like this shouldn't be how she presented herself. Not that it made her less sad about the situation.
As her vision cleared, she took a good long look at her brother. The girl was able to take a moment to think about everything they had been through. They were always doing things together, it's how things always were. She was always helping him out no matter what, and he to her. If they weren't related, that would sound rather romantic.
Well, it kind of did sound romantic to her.
"…" What was she thinking? Arata's her brother, of course they can't have any sort of relation. Yet, her body was acting on its own now. She didn't say anything to him, only leaning in towards the boy.
"Eh?" He wasn't sure what was going on her mind. "Ayami, what-what are you doing?"
"I… I want to try something." She whispered to him. He leaned a little back from this uncomfortable distance, until she quickly attack and landed a kiss.
Not just some simple kiss that an older sibling gives their younger sibling as a sign of affection. Not something in a cutesy manner like on the cheek or forehead. This was a passionate kiss, her lips to his.
In a panic, Arata pushed his older sister off. She realized just the sin she had committed as she heart beat rapidly.
"I-I'm so sorry." She tried to plead with him, but even she knew that she had crossed a line that no one should ever cross. Worst of all… She liked the kiss. Ayami felt the flood of shame with that realization, just how much of a degenerate she really was. "Please, don't hate me. I don't know what came over me… Just forget about it, okay?" Her begging didn't allow him to get a word in edgewise.
Even if she didn't keep him from talking. Arata had no clue on how to react to his sister's actions. His body felt hot from kissing her like that, muscles were tense, heart was racing. Did he really… Feel something with that kiss?
But that's his sister. Not a cousin, not some unrelated girl he called a sister, not even a stepsister. No, Ayami was his sister by blood, belonging to the same mother and father.
"I don't want you to hate me…" Her face was filled with shame over that kiss. She wasn't sure on how to move forward from this awkward position. All the girl wanted to do was cry over ruining another one of her relationships.
"Ayami…" Arata finally spoke up up a long silence. "I don't hate you."
"Good." She breathed a sigh of relief. "Then, maybe we can just forget this whole thing happened."
"Actually." He responded. "Maybe we could… Give that another try?"
