"You really did that?!" I slammed my hand on the table as I laughed out loud in public.
"I had to! You know how scary Elizabeth can get when she's mad!" He whined, obtaining many glares from people.
It was close to 7:00 PM, the sun had just set. The birds had stopped chirping. Working hours were soon going to end and I had plans of leaving soon. I was in a café, having a great time with my best friend.
Our memorable moment was rudely interrupted by my ringing phone. My blood ran cold after seeing the caller ID. Could it be... he already reached?
"I'm sorry, Jackson but I need to leave early, I'll see you some other time," I stood up from my chair. "Jennifer, wait, what's wrong?" He followed my actions. "I need to go back home, I'll call you later," I was making my way towards the café exit until he grabbed my wrist.
"It's Kyle, isn't it?"
I hung my head and stayed silent, not knowing what to say.
"How long are you going to keep living like this?" I slowly freed my hand from his, "I'm sorry." I left the café before he could say anything else.
I checked my phone as I sat in my car, it's been 7 minutes since he called. I sped up to arrive home faster.
My forehead and palms were getting sweaty by the second. I could feel the lump in my throat, along with my heavy breathing. My grip on the steering wheel tightened at just the thought of being late.
"Come on, come on just another right and... finally!" I jumped off my car, locked it and rushed towards the door.
Once I got in, I was welcomed by darkness. My hand reached for the switch, through the flickering of the light, I saw him there, sitting on the king sofa.
Messy hair, loose tie, creased suit and a belt hanging from his hand. Looking at me with his drunken eyes, a smirk appeared on his face.
"Welcome back, darling..."
