I take off my jacket and put it over Shi Yang. I helped her put her hands through the jacket. When she puts her hands through the sleeves of the jacket I fix the jacket to wear and it covers every exposed body part. I then start to look for the a/c,hoping it wasn't broken.
I walk down the hall. " There it is!" I walk to it and take a look. It looks like she had it at 60°. I quickly turn it off and head back to the kitchen. I take out all my ingredients and begin to start cutting the vegetables. I take a pot out and set it one the stove. I start to add my water and vegetables.
Now time for the meat. I slice the mat in smal chunks, after rinsing my met off. I then put the rest of the ingredients along with the spices in the pot. I put the stove on medium heat.
I look towards her, she looks peaceful. She was sitting at the window, watching the view perhaps. I look back at the food. I have some time. I go to sit with Shi Yang. We don't say anything, we just look at the view. She turns towards me then towards the food. She smiles at me, this time it seems more genuine.
"You must be a great cook. It smells nice."
A bit dazed I couldn't answer right away. She tilts her head wondering what could be on my mind. A glum look spreads almost immediately on her face. I flinch.
" I used to cook for my colleagues, when we had to work late shifts at the office. I think over the years I've gotten at least decent at cooking."
She looks down, unable to look me in my eyes. "Is that so."
A sharp pain streams through my chest. "Why? Why must you act that way towards me?"
Shu Yang wasn't able to answer. She looked shocked and confused. Conflicted almost, "Why you ask?
