Chapter 259 - The Cleric

"What's the issue?" Steven said groggily, rubbing his eyes as he leaned forward in his chair.

"I was referring to the young girl with you! I may not be the best cleric but even I can see that she's not human! Why'd you bring a monster into this town?!" The cleric shouted with wild eyes.

Bea shifted in her chair, clearly being uncomfortable by the cleric's words. Me and Steven's expression became dead serious as we looked at the man. Without us even saying a word, the man calmed down and took a deep breath. When he finally regained his composure, he looked at the two of us for answers.

"It's clear to me now that she isn't hostile. I don't sense any bloodlust or malice from her so I'll be compliant with you as long as you give me answers."

"Thank you. As you know, Bea is in fact a monster but she's nothing like the ones outside the city. Me and Steven had the pleasure of dealing with actual monsters and even wiped out one of the three lairs on this island. Bea is different though since as you guessed, she holds no malice or bloodlust."

"Wait… you managed to destroy a monster lair?" The cleric looked down at the three swords by my bed. It almost looked like a light bulb went off in his head when he looked at the two swords Takamori gave me.

"Those two swords over there look just like the ones used to fell the town elder's son. If you wouldn't mind me asking, how did you obtain them?" The man bowed his head as a way to be sincere.

"I defeated the sword monster, Takamori, and he gave me those two swords along with his treasure as a reward."

"If you wouldn't mind, can I show these two swords to the town elder? I believe it's important that he sees these."

"Apologize to Bea first then I'll say yes."

The cleric raised his head and looked at me before turning his attention to Bea. Once again, he lowered his head but this time towards Bea.

"Forgive me for jumping to conclusions so quickly. That was rude of me and I hope I can earn your forgiveness."

Bea gave the man a strange look before turning her attention over to me. Just from her expression alone I could tell she had no idea what to say and looked over to me for guidance. Honestly, I'd be acting just like her if I was in that situation.

Bea let out a sigh once she realized I had no idea how to help her, "i-it's fine. I'm sure it must've been a shock to find not just a monster, but two people who aren't even from here to end up at your place."

"I thank you. Now if you three wouldn't mind, I'd like to take you to the town elder's house as soon as possible. So grab onto your belongings and let's go." The cleric stepped back from us and moved towards the door.

"Thanks again for healing me." I said, looking at the cleric as I removed myself from the bed I was in.

"It is my sole purpose for this small village so I think nothing of it."

I grabbed onto my three swords and attached them to my belt. Bea and Steven both stood up from their chairs and walked over to the cleric with me following close behind them.
