Chapter 152 - Stalling for Time

"No seriously, where did you hear Kerrin get called Boss?" The man asked, turning his head in confusion.

"Uhh… Ren?" I said, still completely baffled by the fact that I managed to get him to stop.

The man seemed even more confused now. Moments later, that confused face of his turned into one of realization.

"Ohh, yeah I forgot that Ren occasionally does that. Now let's continue our fight, shall we?" He said, beginning to take a step forward.

I could see Alice in the corner of my eye shake her head to signal that she still wasn't ready. I had to find another distraction, and quickly too.

"So is your scythe a Genmochi?" Was the first thing that popped into my head. I mean, I don't think it's normal for a blade to remove smoke by just cutting it in half.

"Nope! I'm able to do that because of all my training!" The man said with a prideful look.

Now looking at him more, he didn't actually look all too old. He actually looked to be around my age.

I saw Alice give me a quick thumbs up which was all I needed to get myself away from this guy.

"Hey, why'd you jump back?" The man noticed where my eyes were and turned to see what it was.

"Oh. Well shi-" a large beam of light shot out of the magic ring and landed a direct hit on the man.

I stood there in disbelief of what I had just witnessed. How was this the first time I've seen her use a spell like this? I looked at Alice hoping to get an answer out of her but she seemed just as shocked as me.

"That worked?" Alice said.

"No, but it was a nice try though."

The man fell down right in front of Alice. Despite what had just happened, the man seemed completely fine.

"I'm here to fight the user of the beam Genmochi, not you." The man said, giving Alice a cold look before turning towards me.

The man walked a couple yards away from me and gave me an excited grin as if this was a game to him. Wait, was this a game to him?

"Man, if only Ichiro was here. Maybe then we'd stand a chance." I muttered under my breath.

A small spark of electricity appeared behind the man. The man suddenly jumped away from the small sparks and took a defensive position.

"Someone strong is coming."
