Chapter 53 - Let us Commence Forth

I stood and watched as Genki and Serene stared at each other. Nobody said a word for a while until I coughed.

"Hey John, who is this girl and why is she staring at me like that? She's creeping me out." Said Genki.

Serene jumped back and pointed her finger at Genki, "y-you can talk?!" She yelled. Genki gave me a puzzled look before returning his attention to Serene.

Serene gave me a of shock before taking a deep breath. When she was finished, she walked up to Genki and tried to pick it up. When she attempted to lift Genki up, the blade didn't move.

Genki watched as Serene tried to pick him up. He gave an amused look before shifting his attention to me. At that time, Serene gave up on trying to pick up Genki.

"I'm guessing she doesn't know how a Genmochi works. When a Genmochi finds an owner, only the owner can wield the blade. That's why you can't lift me up." Genki explained.

"Alright Serene, I've shown you that I have a Genmochi. Now will you take me to the second floor?" I asked.

Serene let out a small sigh and nodded. I grabbed Genki from off the wall and put him in his sheath. Serene still seemed interested in Genki but wasn't saying anything.

As I walked towards the exit of my home I saw Alice waiting by the door. I went past her which seemed to catch her off guard. When I opened the door she grabbed onto my shoulder.

"You're going somewhere, aren't you? Take me with you. I've been wanting to go on a quest again for awhile now." Alice said.

"If you're willing to go to the second floor with us than be my guest. We'll be up there for a bit and I don't want you backing out halfway there." I said.

Alice stayed quiet and nodded. I turned back to face the door and opened it. The fresh wind hit my face as I walked out.

If we wanted to arrive at the second floor we would first need to enter the biggest town on the first floor, Valkstead. Last time we were there we delivered booze to the guild that ran the town.

The path to Valkstead was quiet. No monsters jumped out to attack us and nobody came into sight. I put my hands behind my head as we walked and took a deep breath.

"I hope the next couple hours aren't as boring as this." I groaned.

"Although the silence is a good thing, I still don't like it. I can feel myself getting rustier by the second." Alice said, kicking a rock into a bush.

We watched as the rock went through the bushes and hit something. We continued walking until the rock was thrown back at us. I turned around to see who threw the rock but saw nothing.

I began to turn around and keep walking but another rock was thrown at us. I caught the rock before it hit me and tossed it on the ground.
