Chapter 3 - 3. The strangeness of Wanda

WANDA

"I swear to you, I had no idea he wanted me to steal from you," I said in a rush. The man scowled. He obviously did not believe me. Who believes a thief that goes after magical drugs? My life was fucked. The dangerous man fell to the bed to catch my gaze. I noticed his eyes were bright violet, two brilliant circles of purple with a ring of hazel-gold just around his pupil, making his gaze that much more intense. Unlike the rest of the crew, He had jet black hair and was impressively dressed in a designer suit. Of all three of them, He was the only one that could pass off as human. Not that anyone would doubt the nature of the others. They looked so human. So human that I dared to question if they were truly the creatures' mother had read me when I fell asleep.

"I do not believe that." He finally said, his gaze burning through me with mad scrutiny. "You are telling me some random person instructed you to steal a particular box in an empty warehouse that so happens to hold ten grams of vampire ash? An expensive commodity in both realms. Girl, Tell me a different story, or we might be having a very different conversation."

How could someone look so dangerous and sexy as fuck at the same time? The man in front of me made me almost pee my pants for two different reasons.

"What!" I gasped, perplexed by what he meant. I had to save myself somehow. "I swear I am not lying. I was sent. The man who sent me might have something to do with your missing goods but believe me I was only doing as I was instructed to save my brother."

"Who sent you?" His eyes did not waver from me as he demanded an answer. I had minutes... seconds before he got bored and decided to have 'the other conversation'. A part of my mind played what would happen if I exposed Flavio. Would Flavio be dealt with and was there a chance my brother would regain his freedom or would Flavio Armani bring down a school of faeries like he had hunt down any person that dared oppose him. Fuck it! I would choose faeries any day and that bastard deserved what was coming to him.

"Flavio," I breathed. "Flavio Rizzo."

The boss, Luca, that was his name broke into a smile that made him even more attractive. I would have no problem kissing him if he was not trying to kill me.

"You mean to tell me, Flavio Rizzo, the human crime syndicate who thinks he runs half of Cuwan tried to steal from me?" He asked, stifling a laugh. His aides did not laugh but I could tell they were also bemused and trying their best not to break.

I was not sure what was so funny since he had an idea of the man I was talking about so despite my condition, I asked."What is so funny?"

"The idea that you think a human is stealing my drugs."

He did not trust me. I had been honest. God knows I had been far sincere than I was with even my own brother. I shuddered. The man in front of me decided my fate and I was not even sure he wanted me to live. He doubted my intentions. It was easy to see and I could bank in it that my freedom was compromised. I needed a way out of this mess.

"Please believe me, " I pleaded, I am telling the truth. "

Awful images flashed through my head just thinking about what was going to happen next. Luca's eyes might look innocent but he was no saint. He probably had no problem killing me. I was not the first loose end. That I was sure of.

" Boss, She is clearly lying. Use the shimmer on her and let's get this over with." Green jerk commented.

I saw Luca's eyebrows connect. It was anger and I must say it was warranted.

"Shut the fuck up and let me do the talking Lorenzen."

The green-haired jerk bowed his and stepped back, his lower lips twitching from embarrassment. "I am sorry sir."

With the green-haired goon out of his hair, Luca's attention went back to me. He paused, doing absolutely nothing but staring at my hair. It was a boring ombre tint. Nothing compared to the flashy hair color of his counterparts but it caught his attention alright and I hated the attention. It was the one reason I kept my hood on in the first place. Which reminded me: Where was the damn sweater? The question did not linger in the mind as I felt fingers comb through my hair. It was Luca. For some reason, my hair was fascinating to him if he did so much as run his fingers through it. I found it weird and shrank back. I had a lot of bad indie horror movies and in most of them, the killers always wanted to keep a piece of their victims to immortalize them or some creepy shit. Was that what he was doing? Was my hair the only thing that would remain of me when he was done? Once again, my heart began to thump.

"What is your name?" He asked.

"Wanda," I replied.

Luca smiled. "Okay Wanda, Here is how it's going to go. I tried being reasonable with you and you have supposedly told me the truth but I do not believe you so I am resorting to other ways to get my truth."

I flinched at that. " What did he mean by 'other ways to get his truth'. Before I could even ask, he continued talking.

"If you are indeed telling the truth, The shimmer will not hurt you and I promise, you and your brother will be safely returned home with no memory of this awful night."

"And if I lied..."

"You could go insane. Die or maybe there is even a fate worse than that. So tell me, Are you ready to talk? Or should I proceed?"

It sounded scary but I was telling him the truth so I awaited whatever the shimmer was.

"Proceed."

His eyes focused intently on me. The bright purple shifted to a kind of that was not easy to describe. It was almost like they were both violet and lavender at the same time, with the hazel- gold rings slowly creeping in around the edges and taking over. The eyes were truly the window to the soul because the sight took over me. It was hypnotizing to look at and almost impossible to break. All I wanted to do was stare at it all day.

He cleared his throat and began, "What is your name?"

He could not be serious. He asked me that moments ago. Was he that forgetful? Either way, I proceeded to answer hoping he would keep to his word. I now had faith. My loyalty had switched.

"As I told you before, It's Wanda."

Redhead and acid green gasped. I noticed Luca blink and his irises dilate. Whatever hold they had on me was long gone but what was the reason for the shock? Minutes ticked in silence before Luca finally spoke.

"How did you resist the shimmer?"
