Chereads / Train To Seoul / Chapter 16 - 15

Chapter 16 - 15

The whole restaurant was lit with joy.

People, though hungry, were still celebrating their victory.

Taehyung and Jungkoook were sitting on a bench when an elderly woman came to them, crying.

"You both have done a really good job. Though we've lost many lives in the process, but we still can celebrate our victory." She started sobbing lightly and continued, "Look at this child, he died 4 days ago... because of hunger. He really had a deep sense of reverence for you. He wanted to meet you both for the last time." Saying this, the woman covered her face and burst into tears.

Jungkook wiped the tears from the woman's eyes and hugged her frail body. While Taehyung, he wiped the tears forming in the corner of his eyes and turned the boy's face with trembling hands and was terror-struck when he saw his face.

He was  Jimmy, the 8-year old child due to whom he could complete his antitode.

But... how was this possible?

Just 2 days back, this very child was alive, completing his assignment in the middle of such a dangerous situation on roads, and he's dead for four days?

A chill went down his spine. He could see the dead child, and Jungkook comforting the woman, who was probably the child's grandmother. Things made no sense. He was in utter confusion, with his name 'Jimmy' reverberating in his mind.

A part of him wanted to talk to the lady about Jimmy, but he knew it was wrong to ask her about him at his point of time.

Several weeks later, when all the people were evacuated to their homes, and matters had started to settle down, Taehyung was sitting on a bench, trying to figure things out in his mind.

Taehyung's Point Of View

Things are just not right.

Sohee, she was just a student aspiring to be a scientist. And then, how could she suggest such an indegenious way to create the antitode? She didn't even remember what plan she was talking about just a few seconds after she blabbered the process.

And that child, Jim- Jimmy. How could he manage to complete his 'assignment' in the middle of fierce zombies, and his grandma says he's been dead for four days.

Whenever we faced a problem, it was solved immediately.

I've been thinking if an external force has been helping us all the time. But who?

We have got several awards and recognition from the government, Jungkook is a military officer again, but something is still not right.

I'm getting goosebumps, because images are whirling in my mind while ugly sounds keep reverberating.

Suddenly, an old man came and sat beside me on the bench.

"You know what, I am the cause of all your confusion." He laughed familiarly and continued, "Things are just so simple, try to put the pieces together one by one. I never wanted to destroy the world, it was just my rage."

I wanted to interrupt that crazy old man but he hit my head and said, "I knew you couldn't do it stupid, so I had to help you. I was everywhere. Inside Sohee. Inside you. Inside Jimmy. Inside Jimin."

A weird feeling crept over me. My breaths were getting heavier every moment. I got goosebumps all over my body and closed my eyes to hold back my tears.

Moments later, I opened my eyes to find no one in front of me.

"JIMIN-AH! WHERE ARE YOU" I cried as I ran frantically trying to find him only to get hit on my head from behind by someone.

I turned around, and no one was there.

"Hey what are you looking for? A dead person? I told you I'm everywhere. I'm above your head, with the birds that are making their nest. I'm below you, with the ants having their lunch. I'm in the wind, that will slap your face whenever you're outdoors."

I smiled. Jimin was still the old Jimin.

I know could have never done this without him.

"THANK YOU JIMIN!" I yelled at nobody.

"LOL!" The air yelled back at me.

Life will still continue now.

But yes, Jimin will be a name that will always make me smile when I look back in life several years later.
