We was on our way to Maximus' home, going through a common route to the rich part of England, through the forest of course. The carriage was also paid by Maximus, at this point I'd feel bad if I didn't like him, he seems do nice and generous, or he could just be doing it because he has to.
We finally arrived and I tell you what my jaw dropped when I saw what the house looked like, in fact it didn't even look like a Manor or a house, it looked more like a castle.
The carriage stopped outside the doors of the castle-like building and the driver which guided the horses through the forest jumped off and opened the door, to my surprised the family was waiting on the big door step obviously looking down onto us.
There was two boys that didn't even fit the description, I was confused but I didn't want to start anything so I kept my mouth shut.
The women who looked to be their mother walked down to me excitedly and shook me "Welcome! You must be Emma!" she seemed happy? Why would she be happy to send her son of to a lower-working class lady? But her presence felt somewhat, nice.
"yes, I am!" I smiled happily shaking her hand also, "Maximus isn't here right now but will meet to later one when he comes back" the women held hands with herself still smiling, on my hand, I was disappointed, luckily enough I was good at hiding my emotions "OH, where'd he to of too?" if ask still smiling myslef.
"he felt bad that you had to travel all this way and not give you a gift so he went to go find one!" that sentence made me blush a little, but there was this feeling I'd never felt before, my heart thumped as I breathed more clearly "his presence would make me happy, expensive gifts aren't really my cup of tea but if its from him I would be honored to cherish it" I covered my mouth, I didn't plan on saying that, it was more like I was saying my thoughts but outloud.
The women didn't seem to say anything, but also seemed to admire what I said "you sound just like him" she would complement me none stop for about 20 minutes straight before changing the subject.
"now, let me show you to your room, but I'll let you say goodbye to your mother and father before we do so, just knock when you're ready" the women walked back into the castle-like Manor leaving me with my mother and father, saying goodbye to my father was something I wasn't excited about.
"come visit us soon, okay?" mother said giving me one last hug "just remember that you're so brave to be going through with this, I'm so proud of you" she let go as I smiled, then turning to my father who had a displeased look on his face. "you're lucky you're good looking girl, because if I was him, I wouldn't far marry a girl from the slums" there we go, his last words to me left me thinking why.
Night fell and there was still no sign of maximus, I layed in my chamber that I was given and stared at the ceiling as I lost myself in my own thoughts. A sudden knock tricked me out my trance.
"come in" I shouted, the door opened and it was one of the maidens from earlier. "oh hello, is everything okay?" I questioned sitting up, the maiden pulled her arms away from behind the wall, too my surprise she was holding another ballgown "let me help you put this on".
It was a red laced ballgown with puffy of the shoulder sleeves, my hair was up for more like a wedding type but it didn't seem to bother me. "you're green eyes really stand out in this dress" the maiden said smiling at me, I turned to her and smiled back "thank you".
"now, follow me. You're expected over in the ballroom".
