Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Darmian's P.O.V:

I sat in the dark for I don't know how long. I had gotten the clock I asked for and the calendar. It's been two weeks since I was brought up from the lab. The woman still scared me. I didn't know if anyone else was here as I wasn't allowed out the room and the only person who was allowed in to see me was her. She has yet to tell me her name and I have not asked.

Names hold power. I remember being taught that. I wasn't sure from where though.

She had started teaching me things. Simple math and reading. Treating me like a child just learning how to read and write. In a way I was. The things I was being taught were in the language of learning they had made up. I knew basic math and English but I wouldn't be able to communicate in the house in that language. It was forbidden.

They were trying to brainwash me. I wouldn't let them succeed.

She walked into the room with lunch and a notebook. I had learned things faster than even she expected. Now we have moved on to science. I was to learn the basics of the chemical components they used in the lab before I was to be moved into my own lab to work by myself. I had even shocked myself with how smart I was. Had I been this smart before...before I had died?

I refused to believe that I had been brought back from the dead. That was impossible wasn't it?

She handed me the periodic table and told me to recite each element. I looked down at the paper and saw it was just the outline. Other than that the paper was blank. As I listed the elements in order they appeared on the paper. I freaked me out to no end but I was taught to not let it show. Being scared showed weakness, flaws. Flawed weak people did not make the cut.

As soon as I was done she took the paper away and handed me the notebook. I opened it and saw it was full of equations.

"You are to finish the notebook by Friday." She sat my lunch on the desk along with pens, pencils and anything else I would need.

Hearing the key turn in the door I got up and sat at the desk. There were 300 pages of work. Today was Wednesday. I would have to work nonstop to complete it by Friday. I sighed and got to work not bothering to eat my lunch. This would be a long week.

-------------

I heard a knock on the door. No one ever knocked because the only person to see me had a key. I turned around looking at the door as it unlocked revealing two people. The woman and a man I had never seen before.

"Hello Darmian. My name is Damon. I've been assigned to your room." he introduced himself smiling at me. Something she had never done.

"Hello Damon." I had nothing else to say. He had not asked me a question therefore I had no reason to speak further.

He had been assigned to my room. That meant there were others like me. That also meant I didn't have to see her for a while. I smiled to myself at the thought. But that also meant she had found someone new to take care of herself. I had come to learn that only special people got that treatment. Did that mean I was no longer special?

"You will meet someone new soon." She started looking at me. I was if she had heard my thoughts. I wouldn't be surprised if she had that power too. Nothing was impossible in this place.

I nodded to her and she left the room locking the door behind her. Damon looked at me and then he sighed.

"I hate to have to do this to you but you have another assignment." I internally cringed at the thought of having to do another 300 page assignment like the one I had to do a few days ago. I had starved myself and skipped my shower time just to finish it in time.

I had requested a tv. After what I had been through to get the assignment done I felt as though I deserved it. They however deemed that I didn't.

He sat a book in front of me.

"You must read the book. Out loud." He looked at me.

"That's it?" I asked. That sounded easy. Until I opened the book. It was only 20 pages long. A very short book. But it was in their code and in order to read it I had to decipher the code first.

"Yes, except it won't be me you're reading to. I'm here to assist you if you have questions deciphering the code however, I am not allowed to help you do the actual coding. But from what I've heard about you I'm just here for moral support."

I nodded getting started on deciphering the code. Who would I be reading this to if it wasn't him?

"I shall take my leave now. Don't mess up. I'm not supposed to tell you this but you're ahead of everyone. You are doing better than everyone expected. She is getting a lot of credit for creating a genius. If you mess up in front of the council she will not hesitate to destroy you. Her bad side is now a side you wish to be on. You're lucky to be alive. She won't give you that luxury. You will wish you had stayed dead. That isn't a threat, it's a promise. We never go back on promises here. Do not forget that. Good luck." Damon left the room and I heard the door lock behind him.

Who is the council? They have to be even more powerful than she is then right?
