Chapter 1 - Something's Different

Roland opened his eyes seeing an unfamiliar ceiling. He sat up in his bed wondering where he was and what had happened. Then suddenly a flash of images assaulted his mind.

He remembers cutting through an alleyway on his way home from work. When a guy stepped out from the shadowy corner of the alley and stabbed him in the neck. He remembered the guy going through his pockets and taking out his wallet.

The feeling of laying there helplessly watching his blood pool beside him.

Then his murderer looking at him and saying "I'm sorry, it's nothing you did, but-."

He didn't care about this guy's reasoning, so he stopped listening, he didn't really care about anything anymore. After all he was dying and nothing could stop that.

Then he remembered a cold feeling as if being dunked into ice-cold water. Then it felt like he was floating in the middle of nothingness. He had opened his eyes but nothing but darkness greeted him.

Then a blinding light was all that he could see, and he closed his eyes. Then when he opened them he was staring at this ceiling.

Roland looked around the room noticing that nothing was familiar to him at all.

"What happened to me, where am I?" Roland wondered to himself.

The surroundings were very different, for one, the stuff in this room alone seemed more expensive than everything he owned put together. He saw a nearby window and walked over to it. When he looked out he realized that he was in a high class apartment in some city. But the crazy thing was the sunlight burned, not just his eyes like when you first wake up, but his whole body. The burning feeling was more than just getting warm, it almost like getting too close too a fire. Then all of a sudden he started to get burned as if he had touched a hot stove.

With a startled yelp Roland yanked the curtains shut and retreated to the far end of the room quick as could be. Wondering what the hell was going on.
