Chapter 37 - 37 Back to Work

Stacy said okay it's time we have to go back to work Janette was surprised when she saw everyone getting up and leaving at the same time. As she took a better look and noticed that it was all the people from work. They all were there and that was the shocking part to her. It was like when did they all get here, and what were they all doing. She didn't want to admit that she had been set up or betrayed by one of the ones that she considered her friend. Stacy noticed Janette's reaction and seen that she was almost in tears she could see that Janette had felt betrayed. There was really nothing that Stacy could do except comfort her if she was even willing to have that happen. It was a good thing that Janette was still mostly drunk from the 8 shots of alcohol that she had at lunch and she really was not caring that much at this point who knew what. But it didn't mean that she still didn't feel betrayed in it and would not feel differently once she truly sobered up.

Janette sat there waiting for the place to empty she couldn't believe that someone had blabbed to the others this was just one more reason that she needed to decide right away to go to one of them. It would be hard to walk into the office and take all the looks that they would be giving her. The four of them sat at the table and waited Janette was ready to quit and she knew that no matter which path she chose she would be doing that but Stacy, Patty, and Molly all had her back and would not let her go through this without help.

Once the coffee shop was empty and Janette was set they left as a group and walked back to work. Stacy knew that for the most part that Janette was not going to be good for doing much and she was more than willing to pick up the slack so that she would not get into any trouble. Not that it was really going to matter she doubted that Janette was going to decide to stay working here very long.

Stacy was surprised how much that Patty and Molly did to get all their work done and help with the things that Janette had started falling behind on. It was not that long before Janette sobered up and was feeling herself again, but her mind was on everything except for work. As she sat there doing mostly nothing she was thinking about all the things that the girls had said, and all the good points that they brought up. Hours seemed to fly by as she thought about everything. Janette stayed at her desk hidden as much as she could and the one time that she went to the bathroom she heard the snickers of the others and even caught sight of them showing a video of her talking at the coffee shop where she was telling her story. She realized that someone must have gotten out their phone and recorded her.

She was horrified that one of her friends had to have done this or at least invited the one that did. By the time she made it back to her desk she had seen enough of the way that she was going to be laughed at and all the fears of everyone thinking that she was a tramp or worse showed in the eyes of everyone that she worked with. Stacy saw it all she couldn't see who it was that did the recording but they had captured most of everything that happened at the table and then it had spread threw out most of those people at work she had known that most of the people at work had no real lives and to them, this was all so exciting but she knew that there was no way that Janette would want anything to do with anyone else at work.

Janette realized that the choice of going back to her old life was now closed. Because no matter what she would from now on be known as the slut of the office. As she looked out from her desk she saw that they were all still talking in whispers about her and she saw that most were laughing at her, and showing each other the video which she was not sure who took or why they did that to her. Janette couldn't stand them looking at her and judging her that way so before the day was over she had typed up her letter of resignation. She really didn't want to work late but she didn't want to go past all the others and have them looking at her either Janette saw that her true friends were there for her when the three of them waited to go home and make sure that she was going to be okay.

Molly had checked on Janette off and on throughout the day without the others noticing that she was doing it she was glad that it happened at lunch and not first thing in the morning but then she thought about what would have been far worse but what about tomorrow she is going to have to face it unless she just quits altogether. That was what she was the most afraid of is that she would quit all of a sudden she never see her again. She needed Janette to see that she was a true friend and one that she could count on even if she was with others. Molly wondered if she was going to come back tomorrow with the way that she was acting today. She knew that Janette didn't have to she had enough money that she could easily not work for years based on the money that she had gotten and now that she was feeling betrayed Molly doubted that she would be back.

Patty was not as upset as the other two but she knew that Janette would keep in contact with her she had before and she was just sure that she would again. That had happened the other times until she had gotten her a job with the company. Patty did not know what had gotten into Janette lately she had never seen Janette ever go off with a stranger before in her life and now to find out that she not only went with a guy but then did all those wild and dangerous things was just driving her mad. She was going to make a point of telling her all the bad things that happened to her the one time that she was not careful and she wound up being forced to do all sorts of things before she finally was able to escape. That is why all her story just reminded her that she was being so unsafe she was surprised that after all that they just didn't take her and force her into slavery and sell her to the highest bidder. After all that is almost what happened to her, Patty felt that if she had not escaped when she did she would have never been seen again. She was thinking that the only thing that saved Janette was the fact that everyone had seen them go off together.

By the time that Janette was ready to go she cleaned out her desk and got the few things that she was allowed to keep there into a small box. She just couldn't see herself facing all the others anymore. She had never wanted it out that is why she had them all swear that they would keep it to themselves. So she knew that this would be the last time that she would come here her friends knew that as well. Still, she wished that she would know who betrayed her and told everyone to come. When Janette had all her things ready she let the others know that they could come back to her place if they wanted. Patty had no choice her husband and kids were going to be waiting on her to get there so that they could eat and then the children needed her to help them get into bed because no one does it better than mom.

It was a depressing walk back to Janette's place they both had figured that she would be leaving to start a new life, but they were not planning on it happening this soon. Janette saw her friends were down and she was starting to feel the same. Janette said you both know I love you and we do have each other's numbers there should be no reason I can't come back to visit. I don't even know how far I will be going and there would be no reason that you cant come and visit me as well. They both nodded at that once they walked her home she invited them in. Molly wanted to but Stacy shook her head and said it's late already and tomorrow is just Tuesday, there is no way unless we were going to be quitting with you. Molly gave very serious thought to that idea and realized that Janette would be leaving. So she couldn't afford to risk everything just to have her go away so soon after. At least with no guarantees that they would be more than just friends after, and Molly was still unsure of what Janette's true feelings were. But she had liked the idea of her saying that she loved them all.
