Chapter 28 - chapter 28

I sigh again, the alcohol starting to warm my mind and ease the tension in my body and I chuckle, 'Yeah it is, already looked it up. I suppose I could dispute it but it doesn't change the fact that I would still be losing money. Not to mention he's business partners with my cousin'.

He puts his hand around the back of his neck, 'Wow you really weren't joking when you said you had it rough aye!'

I laugh nearly falling off my seat, 'Its not so bad at least I'm a badass at work, and you know with great power comes great responsibility' I hiccup, 'Or something like that'.

'Oooft' I let out a gush of breath as I sit down on the bar stool a the hotel. I take no time signaling to the waiter and order a tequila shot and red wine. When the cute waiter gets back to me with my order he places down two tequila shots instead of one with my glass of wine. 'Oh I didn't order that!' I rush to say.

'I know it's on the house', he winks at me and struts off. I shake my head; he must see the exhaustion oozing off my very being or something. Nevertheless, I'm always grateful for any free booze my way.

I down the first one and then the second one straight after. The liquid goes down my throat like molten lava and heats up my stomach. The familiar burn easing the tension of the day, and what a day it's damn well been.

I slam the shot glass down on the counter. Then instead of sipping the wine like a classy lady I skull it down like it's water, not even stopping to taste the accent of the wine.

'Rough day?' Cute bar guy pops up out of nowhere, startling me.

I breathe out a deep sigh, 'Oh boy, you have no idea! Rough doesn't even begin to cover it!'

He chuckles and leans his elbows on the counter, 'Well I'm all ears.'

I smirk at him, 'You must be super bored if you want to hear about my day'.

He tilts his head up, 'Hmm…yes and no. Maybe I just want to hear about a pretty girls' day to lift my mood!'

I laugh, 'Is that right? Well strap in I'm about to bore you senseless.'

He smirks at me, staring, prodding me to start my story.

When I finish unloading all the tragedies of my day, we are both howling with laughter, and he's pouring me another glass of wine.

I left out the parts where he tried to apologise to me today during our meeting, which made me almost think he might be a decent human. But then I'd remember all the things he's done to me and it would reinforce my will to ignore his existence. I'm already finished with him, so I didn't feel it pertinent to the story.

'Well I have to admit your boss sounds like a real piece of work!'

'Yeah I know, imagine having to work under someone like that!!' I slam my fist on the bench, 'It's enough to make anyone start to wrinkle, honestly!'

He's chuckling when he says, 'Sounds like you should just quit and find another job'.

I roll my eyes, 'If only it was that easy!'

He arches a brow at me, 'Yeah, it really is that easy. It's just about taking that leap of faith'.

I shake my head in frustration, 'See that's just the thing, I want to take that leap as you so eloquently put, but instead of landing in a nice ocean and swimming to shore and getting my happy ending, I'd be impaled by a boulder and my soul would go to the other side'.

He's polishing cups when he says, 'Jesus, that got dark real fast!'

I sip on my wine and grumble out, 'Yeah but it's true. If I hand in my resignation I have to pay him a handsome fee for breaking my contract, not to mention the blow to my pride.'

He rolls his eyes, 'It can't possibly be that much!'

I stare at him deadpan, put both my hands up. 'What, are you trying to the say that the fee would be $1000, well that's not too ba—'

'Try more like $10,000.' He nearly drops the glass he is polishing on the floor, and quickly catches it. Visibly shaken by the figure, 'Strooth! Is that even legal?'
