Chapter 1 - Prologue

They say that darkness is absolute in this ever changing world, that there is night in every day, there is a void in every abyss. Darkness is ever changing, and we all carry hollow holes within. We are all looming towards light, actively longing for it, as if we were moths chasing a candlestick's fire. Oh, how we long for this luminosity in our dark days.

I have always thought about this notion, of us coming together to chase after light. We are all trapped in our own darkness, at the same time we are drowned by the world's. Some moths chase after fireflies, in hope of them being their candle flame. I want to be one of those, chasing after fireflies in the night. I hope to see my light, as a moth to finally reach the light that I've been finding, the horizon that I am facing.

"Lucas?" A voice said out of nowhere, I turned over to the source of the voice, and I saw this woman, with her wavy black hair tied in a messy bun, carrying a lot of books with her. Yeah, I kind of forgot that I was staying in the library "Hi, Selene." I smiled at her when I gave my greeting, her stressed look threw me off, but I'm kind of getting used to her, she is the only friend I have after entering university. "You look like you're thinking about all of the world's problems," she said in a humorous manner. "I'm not allowed to think? Do I really look like I'm a dingus when I'm immersed in my own thoughts?" I was conscious with Selene's statements, do I look that stupid? "Nah, I'm just messing with you." Selene's laugh was extremely heavenly, it's very captivating, even urging me to engage in humor internally.

"So what are you up to? You're carrying all of those books." I pointed at the pile she placed on the tabletop. "Just bored," she casually said. "Oh, you really resort to reading when you're bored, huh?" Selene really loves reading, but her hobby usually comes down to reading a bunch of books until she has a desirable answer. "What question do you have now?" I casually said, I'm genuinely curious about her thoughts right now, she usually has some serious thoughts when she immerses herself. Last month, she was thinking about freedom and what it is to be free, she went into some deep thoughts after a week's worth of reading, while all I do is listen to her rumble and babble throughout her little presentations. Though I appreciate her thought of freedom being tied away from licentiousness.

"I'm currently thinking about happiness and joy. What it truly means to be happy," she said in a serious tone paired with her expression which was also on the more serious side. "Oh, why?" I asked out of nowhere. How coincidental, huh? Wondering on the same thought that I have, though my notions only started on everyone having the struggles that they face. Selene looked up the ceiling as if she's thinking about something. "I don't know, I just started to feel emotions lately, and I want to explain it in some way," she said that as if she was a child wondering about how amazing the world is. "Do you have anything to say about it?" She turned to me. "I don't know, I kinda want to find it out, too?" Her eyes then widened as if they were glowing. "Let's find out, Lucas! Let's go!"
