Chapter 5 - Starting the Hunt

Three gigantic files were carelessly tossed onto Chiara's desk when she walked into the station.

"This is the files I asked for?" She looked at the officer.

"That's just the files we have on Kore" the officer laughed joined by giggles from other officers.

"Nice" she muttered," I'm taking these home. Send the other files to me as well okay?"

"And why should-"

"Ask Salvatore" she winked and took the files, walking away rather happily.

As she walked toward her car, she noticed a man standing near the driver's side.

"Can I help you?" She asked, slightly wary of the man.

"I'm the expert on Kore," he said," uh... Salvatore sent me"

"Oh... Okay, want to come to a café? I'm seeing her files anyway" she said showing the large batch of papers in her hands. She wasn't interested in showing this man her home.

"Yes, sounds good" he smiled," you're driving I assume?"

"Uhuh... And how did you get here?" She asked, getting into the car.

"Bus..." He shrugged.

She watched him get in, he seemed nearly peculiar. Dressed in a full suit as if it were his graduation, he had on a pair of glasses, and his thick brown hair was slicked back neatly.

"So uh, how do you know so much about Kore," she asked, as she started the car and began to drive.

"Well... I've done criminal psychology and... I'm her cousin" he said making her eyes widen.

"Awesome..." she mumbled and drove off.

Time: 7:45 pm

Place: Bianca's house.

"Andrea! Phones!" Bianca called loudly, rolling her eyes as the teenager walked into the kitchen.

"Don't shout" he groaned.

"I've been calling for fifteen minutes Andrea. It's nearly time for dinner so stop whatever game you're playing and come down"

"Ugh…" He walked away while she exhaled, trying not to pass a snarky remark.

Andrea had been getting on her nerves lately, and she had been struggling to resist the urge to throw him out of the window. Anyway, he said he would leave as soon as he was 18 so that day wasn't far...certainly wasn't close enough.

As she placed the food on a small coffee table that she had deemed the dinner table, he had appeared from his room much like how the mythical Bigfoot appears in the mountains and once spotted, immediately runs back into its cove.

"So. How were the classes?" She asked, grimacing at the groan," I just asked a question you ass"

"And it's a stupid one," he said, poking his fork into the pasta and eating it as if it were cardboard, and he was Oliver Twist, forced to eat what miserly garbage he was offered.

"You're cooking tomorrow," she said.

"What...that's not fair you know I don't cook well" he exclaimed.

"Yeah. Well, if you are going to make that face at what I cook might as well cook yourself right?" she asked, not looking at his face for fear of being even more irritated than she already was.

"Ugh! You're such a prick!" He wanted to get up and walk away but in their family, they had been taught not to walk away from the table.

"Uh, I have a project due tomorrow... I need supplies" he said.

"It's 9 pm Andrea" she muttered looking at the large wooden clock.

"I remembered it today" he shrugged. He worked a part-time job delivering newspapers but his earnings were placed into a bank account that belonged to him and were handled by Bianca. It also contained the millions that he was going to inherit, but he didn't know that. She had decided that he was too careless about money and responsibilities, and she would hand it over to him only when he displayed some sort of maturity. Her own bank accounts had money which she had kept aside. Living rich with no proper job brought on suspicion, to say the least.

"Ugh okay... text me a list... I'll make a run to the store. Have to get you stuff for this week as it is" she said, "Mrs. Romano will be checking in on you randomly so no inviting people over... and no trashing the house" she said.

His face brightened up," finally the house will be empty"

"It's literally always empty... I come home at 8:30" she rolled her eyes," anyway. No going into my room you understand? It will be under lock and key..." She said sternly. He nodded, he had tried before but her locks were something else. Couldn't even pick them.

"Uh... There's a ...gun in the lower kitchen cabinet in case of... Emergencies" she looked up at him, his face had hardened.

"I thought you threw the gun away," he said.

" Yeah well. Dad said some of his …enemies know who we are and could come someday... I have to be prepared but it's a last resort only," she reiterated," don't tell anyone you have it. It's not registered in the system."

He nodded, and she got ready to go to the store.
