Chiara sat at her desk, her hands on her head as she stared at the list of murders and disappearances. She was running the digital files through filters for dates.
Skimming through Matteo's file, she couldn't help but stare at the crime scene pictures. Something seemed off, she couldn't pinpoint what exactly it was.
"Chiara?" Enzo sat at her desk," Did you go meet Salvatore on your own?" he asked.
"Yeah, why?" she barely paid any attention to him. The fan above creaked with a slow pace as everyone was walking about, busy with their work.
A few looked over at them, as Enzo fumed," You should have told me you were going" he said.
"Why?" she asked, confused as to why he wanted her to tell him anything.
"Because you're accountable to me... didn't Salvatore tell you ?" he asked.
Leaning back in her seat, she held back her scoff and instead smiled," I am not accountable to anyone" she stated," I did meet him, I needed access to certain files and I wanted to ask him about why he processed the crime scene before we could"
"It was already processed when we got there..." she sighed," that is why I was annoyed, but like I predicted they didn't find anything in the house, and tomorrow I'm going to the ME's office for the autopsy report."
"Can I come with?" he asked," I want to see..."
"Sure..." she nodded, looking back at the computer," give me a minute."
He watched as she penned down something in a notepad with all the seriousness she could muster.
Looking around he realized everyone else was talking to someone and actively avoiding her desk.
He decided to ask her about it, later on, deciding it must be something serious for an entire station to avoid her.
"So, how many cases have you dealt with?" he asked.
"Many," she mumbled, without looking at him," Why?"
"Just asked" he shrugged, "So, what are your plans for today?" he asked.
"Go through this list for anything suspicious, and go home... I need to sleep" she looked over at him," It's okay. I don't need help with that... come tomorrow morning, I'll send you the address. Although, I kind of know what is going to happen. "
"Then why are you researching so much?" he asked.
"Because she will surface... and when she does, I'll be the first to know it" She smirked.
"You seem to be very sure that you will catch her," he remarked," what makes you so sure?"
"There hasn't been a single case I lost, this won't be the first one" She looked at him," you think we won't find her?" she asked.
"I think you won't" he shrugged," she's just too good"
Narrowing her eyes at him as she tried to understand his sentence which she found to be foreboding, she decided only to reply with a smile and exclude him from her discoveries from then on. She was enough and didn't have to include him in anything.
