Chapter 2 - 2. Do Something

As the internet loaded, Logan waited patiently thinking about his recent interaction with Leigh. It was the most perfect moment he's had in a couple months, and the hardest crash he had felt since as well. Usually, in any other situation, the words are simple to manifest and the persuasion begins.

'Leigh is just a unicorn. Like a very goth unicorn, with a ridiculously straight dyed black mane.' Logan thought as he spun in the office chair his mother uses asa computer chair. The computer is in the living room where the television is so its naturally the room for congregation. The desk he is sitting at is a heavy, bright, plywood/real wood desk that has many things etched into it with scissors. Done by both him and his sisters.

As the screen pops up with its familiar "You've Got Mail" and he opened up the email.

Inside the mail he saw a screen name that made his heart drop, "leighvemealone". It was a guess, but he assumed it was Leigh.

"Logan,

I don't know why I'm sending this to you, and I don't know why you're reading this. You said thank you and it confused me, and honestly intrigued me. I am not looking for anything but if we can hang out platonically that would be fine,

Thanks? :) L"

Logan felt dejected but at the same time saw a glimmer of hope. He messaged her on the instant messenger:

Logan: heyyyy

Leigh: don't send that to me. "Hi" will do just fine.

Logan: sorry, hi!

Logan: I mean, Hi.

Leigh: lol that's better. So what do you think?

Logan: Platonically I think yes.

Leigh: Think?

Logan: I'm trying really hard to sound uninterested so you will be interested in me, is it working?

Leigh: lol no, but thank you for you honesty.

Logan: I see what you did there.

Leigh: tomorrow afternoon?

Logan: I would love that!

Logan: Like in a friend way, I guess.

Leigh: ;)

Leigh has logged out

'What just happened? Why did that happen? How did she get my screen name? What a creep.'

He thought, trying to play cool to himself as well.

He finished upon the computer and reluctantly gave up his computer time to his sisters who were going to go into the chat rooms and a/s/l the rest of the night away while his mother made dinner. He went to "his room", where his sisters reside and sleep as well, and he laid down on his bed. That familiar squeak that reminds him to calm himself.

He had grown up in and out of counseling offices that told him his anger stemmed from television or that it was hereditary and that he needed to count to 10 to calm down. His way of gauging his anger was to sit on his bed and push into the bed 10 times or just to close his eyes and wipe all anger away. As he turned to his side, in his ever so comfortable fetal position, he smelled his pillow and the smell almost put him to sleep. It was the smell of home. His mother called for him for dinner and rolled off the bed and onto the floor and staggered out to the smell of Salisbury steak.

After a silent dinner he returned to his seclusion and thought about his depressing difficult 16 year old life. Homework was always on the back burner especially now when he felt that his heart was full and was ready to give it away. He thought about what she had said about "so many girls." It bothered him as well. This time would be different, he promised himself as he drifted off to sleep without brushing his teeth.

As he woke up the next morning, the start of the day was no different except the extra time he spent on his teeth, because what if that was the day he got to kiss her.

He walked to school with a pep in his step and got there about 10 minutes earlier than usual. He walked through the gate into the courtyard and headed to his group. It was a large courtyard with scattered groups covering the large slab of concrete and the farther away he could be from the jocks the better.

As he stood there with his friends he didn't even notice that Trevor was trying out for the tonsil hockey team with Travina. He just looked for the abnormally large pants, all black wearing Cinderella that he was going to attempt to court again. He then saw her walk in the gate and without looking around for anyone hurried toward the library. She looked to the left once in Logan's general direction but he wasn't sure if she saw him. She disappeared into the library and Logan thought it best to leave her be.

All the while inside his head it was a mad house.

'Did I say something wrong last night? Maybe I'm not wearing the kind of clothes that she likes. I should just go in the library and talk to her. I should just do it. I should have called her over and introduced her to Trevor. I should have done something. I should do something...'
