Garland laughed harsher than he needed to as my spell barely grazed him. 'Everblade did a number on you. Look, I won't waste your time, Jake. Join Nightmouth, and you'll see your father again.'
Asher could tell I was considering it, so he shoved me out the way. 'Transmutation.'
Garland dodged the spell, but while he was still climbing to his feet, Asher opened another portal and launched us both towards it.
'Get after them!' Garland ordered, throwing the other mage in after us.
'Cosmic-' The pursuing mage cursed as we entered ahead of him, and appeared back in the southern structure.
Asher landed on his back, closing the portal as the mage had us in his sights. If the Black Sun zealot hadn't rushed in headfirst, he might have gotten away unscathed. Instead, he was severed at the waist, showering Rose and Melia with warm, stinking guts.
