I just stared back at her, searching for any trace of mockery, only Bo's face appeared as featureless as uncarved stone.
Cali frowned with a mouthful of food, while Rose was still playing with hers, blissfully ignorant of what we were discussing.
When Bo burst out laughing, I didn't know what to think. 'Did you honestly believe we were going to sacrifice you, to a made-up goddess no less?'
'Yes.' Cali answered for us both.
Bo sighed dramatically. 'My humour gets the better of me sometimes; perhaps that's why we don't often get visitors.'
I nodded. 'Perhaps.'
Sensing the tension between us, Bo was unsure of what to say. 'Let me show you around some more; your tour is incomplete.'
I'd been too focused on the dining area when we'd arrived that I hadn't even glanced through the open arches at either side. 'This is incredible.'
Bo scuttled to the right as she grew excited 'You've seen nothing yet, Jake. You're going to love this.'
