'Keep it on standby until I'm finished; I don't want Maya or Butland getting a heads-up.'
Rac stopped nodding when he saw me start to write on the deck plating. 'Use this, will you? It'll be less permanent.' He threw a pen at me. It was thin like any other, but instead of a ballpoint, it seemed to expel a fine black spray.
'Less permanent?' I ask with scepticism.
'It wipes off,' Rac assured me. 'Unless you want to be the one scrubbing the metal with a hard brush and soapy water.'
I shook my head, remembering that Butland was already proficient in the magical arts, and the Maya I knew was interested in technology above all else, so I wouldn't need to waste time scribing every rune I knew. Only the facilitating one would be required to magnify the effects of my ritual.
