When we appeared on the other side, the roaring of engines was unmistakable, with the distant sound of speed causing the track we were on to vibrate. Even the bridge's wires were wabbling ever so slightly under the unique strain.
'Where's Charlie?' Violet asked, scanning around.
Asher frowned, joining her. 'I can't see the fish either.'
I ran over to the side of the bridge to see if they'd fallen, but there were no signs, not that I could tell from this high up. We must have been suspended a thousand feet in the air, with galvanised steel crash barriers running along at either side. Beyond that hung a race track of epic proportions, with what seemed like miles upon miles of tarmacked road.
'We'll find them.' Asher promised, feeling guilty.
'Charlie?' Violet yelled.
'Charlie?' There was still no answer.
