I woke up in the morning to my phone going absolutely crazy. I grabbed it off the side and turned it on. All the messages were from the groupchat Tess had made when we were all kids. They were talking about making plans for the day.

Millie: Hi!

Me: Shush you know you'll love it
Thomas: HaHa very funny Princess
Tess: Can you guys not?!
Thomas: No need to be jealous Tess
I giggled and set my phone down, letting them bicker. I got out of bed and took a quick shower before grabbing a knee length navy blue dress out of my wardrobe and slipping it on. I paired it with some flats and dried my hair.
Something hit my window and I opened it, peering out. Tess's car was outside with her under my window, holding a handful of rocks. I rolled my eyes.
"Calling me would have been easier Romeo" I joked. She huffed.
"Hurry up" She shouted up at me.
"Coming" I shouted back and closed the window. I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs.
"I'm going out mum!" I shouted.
"Alright sweetie" she replied and i headed outside, closing the front door as I went.
Tess spotted me from her car window. "Finally! Get in. The movies starting in an hour." I slid into the backseat and Bea gave me a look.
"I'm going to kill her" Bea said, motioning to her sister. I giggled and relaxed into the seat.
We drove down the road to pick up Thomas and then used the GPS to find Millie's house. She waved to us from a window and appeared outside seconds later. She got in and we drove into town. The sun shone through the open window as the others talked. I decided to stay quiet and instead watched the town as it scurried past.
Ten minutes later the car stopped and I hopped out. We all made our way to the entrance and paid for tickets. We walked into the screening room and I shuffled in between Millie and Thomas.
We talked quietly until the movie started. I watched the first bit of the movie, but eventually drifted into thought. The girl sitting next to me had caused something I didn't even know was possible. I looked at her, studying her face. I turned away. This was all wrong. I had a boyfriend. And I didn't like girls. At least I thought I didn't. But I couldn't deny that the connection I thought I had with Thomas was slowly slipping away. What if I was wrong about him. I sighed and looked back up at the movie. I'd missed quite a lot of it but had managed to gather just enough to understand what was going on.
When the movie finished we all shuffled out of the theater, giggling and talking.
"Wasn't that the best kids movie you've ever watched Thomas?" Tess asked, teasing him. Thomas gave her an annoyed look. "Hah I was right. I knew you loved it." She laughed and I grinned at her. Thomas pouted like a child, making Tess laugh harder. I sighed happily, the warm air soaking into my skin as the last bit of light from the day started to fade. We arrived at the Resteraunt, sitting at a table in the corner. I skimmed over the menu, eventually deciding on a Ceaser Salad. A waiter came to take our orders and I sat back, closing my eyes.
The knot in my stomach seemed to come back and I suddenly found myself unable to eat. When the food arrived, I pushed it around my plate quietly. I'd completely lost my appetite. And the worst thing was I didn't know why. I felt fine. I sighed and murmured some excuse, getting up and heading to the bathroom.
I leant over the sink and looked at myself in the mirror. What was wrong with me? I ran a hand through my hair. It was Millie's doing. I knew it was. I had to admit it to myself sooner or later.
"I like her. Or at least I think I do." I whispered to myself. The thought filled me with dread. I had a boyfriend. And she was... She was a girl. My parents would never approve. "I have to keep this secret." I whispered. "No one can know"
I took a deep breath and stepped outside, walking back to the table, sitting down. Thomas looked at me, concerned, and leaned down to my ear.
"Are you okay?" He whispered in my ear. I nodded.
"Yeah in fine." I said, trying to reassure him. He turned away.
I had a little more of an appetite now, and managed to swallow down most of my food. Our plates were cleared away and we left the Resteraunt.
"Wanna come back to ours?" Tess asked.
"I'm not sure that's a good idea-" Bea argued. Her sister glared at her and she sighed. "Fine" She said reluctantly. I laughed and climbed into the car.
The drive didn't take long, and soon we'd pulled up to the house. We all made our way into the house and up the stairs to Bea's room. Tess had managed to sneak us up one of the many wine bottles on the side of their parents kitchen worktop. We spent that night laughing and talking and dancing.
By the time Tess crashed on her sisters bed it was well past 2am. Thomas had kissed me goodnight and headed home and Bea was outside doing god knows what. I pressed myself into the wall and closed my eyes. I felt someone sit down next to me and I opened my eyes, looking at them. It was Millie. I inwardly groaned.
"Hey. Can I ask you a question?" She asked.
"Yeah I guess." I propped myself up and looked at her.
"Are you scared of death?" She looked at me.
"I- I mean... I don't know. That's kind of an odd question." I shrugged. She turned away and we both sat in silence for a bit. I don't know how long it was but eventually I must have fell asleep, the darkness enveloping me like a blanket.
