He opened his eyes, to find a green patch ahead of him and the drops of rains falling on his head.
The memories of the Gu world hidden deep beneath his mind began to play.
Fang Yuan was a person with very rich emotions. However, he had experienced lots of things in his lifetime where he gradually started gaining total control of his emotions and only one goal worth pursuing remained in his eyes, the pursuit of Immortality.
It was not the immortality itself that alluded him but because the goal was impossible to achieve. Only such a goal could bring any purpose to his life and give him joy or bring meaning to his journey.
For him, the journey was more important than achieving the end goal since he enjoyed the pursuit of something which was impossible. Even Gu world did not last forever, how would he, a tiny human.
Fang Yuan had been given a second life in the Gu world. The failure to achieve his goal should have been the end for him but this only gave him further motivation and joy. He took a chance and ended up reaching this world.
"Good. I am still a human and my thoughts work properly. If my soul possessed an animal, it would have been over for me. Also, it seems I am back to being a mortal. I also cannot sense the Dao fragments here. I have to gather information about this world."
Just when Fang Yuan was thinking about where he should start, a book fell in front of his eyes. He looked up only to find nothing but empty sky. Behind him was a 8 storey building. Many students were going in and out in square-checked uniform.
"What is this?", Fang Yuan pondered to himself. He picked up the book and saw the title on the book.
Surprisingly, he was able to read the language and even understand it.
It had the words [Death Note].
He flipped to the 1st page which had the following words :

[The Human whose name is written in this note shall die.]
[This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.]
[If the cause of death is written within the next 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.]
[If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.]
[After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.]
"So to say, I can kill anyone if I know their names and face. Is this the Dao of this world?"
"I can also specify the cause and location of the death?"

Fang Yuan checked the belongings on him. He found many things - books, mobile, wallet, watch, and a student ID.

He is smart and intelligent given his test scores and how he maintains his stuff. He plans to join the police in the future given the career notes which I found.'
Fang Yuan was a old monster having experience of more than 1000 years. To him, figuring out the minor details was no big task. Many times, he had impersonated other people in the gu world, even fooling the Rank 8 Wu Yong.
'If the original owner got this book, he would definitely try to kill criminals using this notebook or he may even chicken out by not being able to handle the pressure.'
It had been some hours since Fang Yuan started going through the stuff.
"Light, what are you doing here? You are not going home? Want to come party with me?", voice of some girl came over to him.
Fang Yuan focused on the person in front of her. He saw the expression on the girl's face and inferred that she might have feelings for Light. Light Yagami was a model student and had handsome features. Many girls had crush on him.
"No, I am busy right now.", Fang Yuan had lots of things to do and he couldn't spare time on meaningless things.
"Okay", the girl pouted and left.
Fang Yuan eyes lit up as he saw her going towards the road. It was a good chance to verify whether the death note worked. He could just write an elaborate scenario showing a road accident and no one would ever know it was him who caused it.
However, he refrained from the thought. It was very likely that someone high up or maybe the owner of this book was watching him if it was real. Fang Yuan still didn't knew much about this world and didn't want to take unnecessary risks.
He decided to go back home for now and then make plans for ahead.
Fang Yuan opened the maps in the mobile and found the direction towards his home.
"This world is really interesting. People do not have any power but they have developed tools which can compete with even Immortal Gu. The internet is very amusing. It's equivalent to Rank 9 Information path gu. This reminds me of Earth, my first home. Interesting."
Fang Yuan went home and hid the book. There were no details available about any such book in this world. There was no such Dao here. Fang Yuan felt that it must be a prank at first but he was a patient man. He wanted to plan for his future and see if there was a path to immortality.
'Humans die around 86 here. Even the healthiest don't live far beyond 100. In the best case scenario, I have only about 82 years to figure a way out.'
While thinking, he reached home.
Fang Yuan walked into the living room after taking off his shoes. His feet pitter-pattered across the wooden floorboards, and he saw the mother of this body standing in front of him. She was smiling. "Welcome home, Light."
"Thanks. I will get fresh first."
"Okay, but first keep your belongings upstairs and change your clothes and come back down. I will prepare something for you.", his mother told him.
'Upstairs, huh? So, there's my room.'
"Also, what about the results?", saying so, his mother extended her hands.
Fang Yuan immediately knew what she was talking about. While going through the belongings, he found the scorecard which indicated that he brought the 1st rank. He immediately handed it over to his mother.
"1st again. As expected of you.", his mother, Sachiko, went back to kitchen after some small chat.
Fang Yuan went upstairs and found a door labeled 'Light Yagami'. He immediately entered it to find a desk, a computer, a TV, a bookshelf, a bed and some other furniture. He opened the curtains and found the rays of sunset falling on him creating a beautiful view.
He hid the death note and kept the belongings at proper place.
"I finally have some time to rest", Fang Yuan sighed. He had totally used up his mental energy while refining Reincarnation Gu. Also, he was continuously working mentally to prepare himself to face any situations in this world.
5 days passed.
Fang Yuan was busy getting used to life of the person named Light Yagami. He regularly went to school and took in the theories of this world such as Chemistry, Physics, Maths, etc.
He didn't use the Death Note. However, he noted down as many names and faces as he could during the past 5 days. He wanted to create a situation where he would not be caught in trouble even if the book worked although he also felt that it was quite illogical. But since he had already faced enemies such as Heaven's will which was omnipresent, he didn't discard the idea.
He was suspicious since he received this book directly after his reincarnation. There was a high probability of something being different with it.
In the past few days, Fang Yuan had learned about many new things. He understood the social structure, the uses of technology, the daily lives of people in Japan and over the world. The intertwining of simplicity and complexity in many aspects caused Fang Yuan to be surprised.
The information was widespread and easily accessible. It was almost similar to his Heavenly Secret Gu. Only information which was not available to public wouldn't be accessible.
He was preparing to live as Light Yagami, a model student with uptight morals.
"Hey there.", A voice suddenly sounded beside Fang Yuan's ear.
Suddenly, the room darkened out and curtains started fluttering.
A shadow loomed over the window gradually condensing into a form.
Fang Yuan froze for a second before he looked beside him.
As he turned his face to face this new entity, he also bent his body in a defensive position to defend against any unexpected attack. He hasn't sensed anyone in the room beside him.
Just two metres away from him was a face of monstrosity. His blood ran cold at the sight of the huge blue visage, riddled with razor-sharp teeth and large, bulging eyes.
It was almost a nightmare that came to life.
The monster leaned back and looked down at Light, grinning. "Don't worry. I don't intend to cause you any harm."
Fang Yuan maintained his defensive position and asked, "Then why are you here? What are you?"
"I'm a Shinigami. The name's Ryuk. I came here because I am the Shinigami who is the owner of the Death Note you currently have in your care."
